The Headcase pico Lovefest: Post your impressions here
elnero replied to thrice's topic in Headphone Amplification
I think I'd have a real problem giving up my Pico now, I know to some of you it's just an extravagant toy but for me it's become the cornerstone of my system. Eventually I'll start to build another home based system but until then the Pico or something of it's ilk is a godsend. -
You could do one on either side, or do they allow for that?

The admins giveth, the admins taketh away.

This is the error I was getting. I was actually changing the profile pic not my avatar which is the reason it wasn't actually showing up when I uploaded from my HD.

I just noticed something, in the old forum I could come and check a couple of threads with new posts but leave others and when I came back even if no one had posted in them they still showed as having new posts. This new forum software acts like Head-Fi where after a certain amount of time new posts show as read. Am I making any sense?

Ok, nevermind I'm a moron....

Hmmm, tried just linking to it but it gave me an error message so I tried uploading it from my comp but although it seems to show up in the dialogue it says upload failed when I click on save and it's not showing in posts.
-
Ha! First one I tried was mine.

I agree, I only heard a pair on a couple of occasions at meets and they were recabled so I don't know how much that changes them but out of all the headphones at the meet that I didn't own myself they were the ones that I liked the best and actually thought might be worth further investigation.

The only thing I don't like about RIP is the whole page loads first and then it does it's thing, on high speed at work most times you don't even see it except for the occassional flash of crap when it first loads before it eliminates stuff. It's a shame because I'm still on dial up at home so I was hoping RIP would prevent that stuff from even loading, alas, it does not so it's still slow as hell.

Wait a second, I just figured it out, you're just pissed because you can't find a place that will serve you dry cereal.
-
Biggie, did you try Maple Grill, Sirinella's, Off Broadway and other smaller places like those? There's also supposedly some interesting places out in the country but it's been awhile since I paid much attention. I do know someone mentioned a spot right off the highway just before Mt. Stewart but I don't remember the name. But you're right, you're not going to get the variety nor quality that you will in some of the bigger centers.

It could also be that the designers are using parts that are already burned in or take burn in into account when designing, thus the piece of gear sounds as it should after it's had a few hours of run-in time.

I just opened HF in IE by mistake, oh my God! I can't believe the amount of ads and intrusive advertising crap they've got going on in their now.
-
Team Minimal? Just look at my sig. In fact that could even be amended because I really only use my comp either at work or home with my Pico and SA6's.
-
You never know, I might be interested in taking advantage of that situation if it occurs.

I don't get how that says he's Steve Hoffman? All I get from it is that he frequents those forums he listed.

Wouldn't the Pico's USB implementation technically be better than either optical or USB from another DAC that uses SPDIF?
-
WTF happened there? I modified my post and for some reason it added another quoting myself?
-
Unless you go for really demanding headphones I'd probably recommend a HeadAmp Pico as your DAC/amp. You could upgrade to a better amplifier down the road and use the Pico via the headphone out as a standalone DAC. If you go that route that leaves you about $300 for headphones. I only have one phone at this point so in my situation I use an IEM because they're far more versatile than full size. I was a really big fan of the Shure E500/530's but cable and some minor fit issues got me looking for something else. That something else ended up being the Sleek Audio SA6's which I personally think stand up well against the high-end universals I've heard. For full-sized I'm not really sure what I'd recommend. I love RS-1's but they'd eat up a large part of your budget. Maybe another less expensive Grado would suit but I've only heard the SR-60's from the lower end so I can't really recommend anything else. Maybe a good couple of questions would be do you prefer full-sized and do you prefer open or closed?

I've always thought of term "American Indian" as meaning an aboriginal, which is also implied by your reply. In this case Russell Peters parents are from India so recstar24's statement "American Indian" implies, to me at least, a US citizen who's descendants are from India.
