  1. The Lord of the Rings, pages 687-688: "Ware! Ware!" cried Damrod to his companion. "May the Valar turn him aside! Mumak! Mumak!" To his astonishment, and terror, and lasting delight, Sam saw a vast shape crash out of the trees and come careering down the slope. Big as a house, much bigger than a house, it looked to him, a grey-clad moving hill. Fear and wonder, maybe enlarged him in the hobbits eyes. But the Mumak of Harad was indeed a beast of vast bulk, and the like of him does not walk now in Middle-earth: his kin that live still now in latter days are but memories of his girth and majesty. On he came, straight towards the watchers, and then swerved aside in the nick of time, passing only a few yards away, rocking the ground beneath their feet: his great legs like trees, enormous sail-like ears spread out, long snout upraised like a huge serpent about to strike, his small red eyes raging. His upturned hornlike tusks were bound with bands of gold and dripped with blood. His trappings of scarlet and gold flapped about him in wild tatters. The ruins of what seemed a very war-tower lay upon his back, smashed in his furious passage through the woods; and high upon his neck still desperately clung a tiny figure - the body of a mighty warrior, a giant among the Swertings.
  2. Reapost but seemed apropo.
  3. Reks - Elves, Balrogs, magic rings, dragons, wizards, walking/talking trees, and giant flaming eyeballs are fine but oversize elephants are a problem?
  4. Steve Jobs in Carbonite iPhone case.
  5. Smoke Fairies - Through Low Light and Trees
  6. Nevermind, found an answer here.
  7. Were Loras and Renly gay in the books? I don't remember that being the case.
  8. All the prophecy nonsense of late reminded me of this old gem:
  9. Indeed. I admit to indulging in the small satisfaction that every time one of these come and go the whole silly business loses a bit more "credibility" (translation: I'm kinda pointing and lmao on the inside this morning).
  10. I like the skeet idea. PULL!
  11. We joined on the same day. Weird.
  12. The original hack for this was manual and had to be tweaked when updates came out. According to an unverified comment from here you have to either: a) Have both iTunes set to Manual Management or b: Have both iTunes set to automatic management and use something like FolderShare to sync your libraries
  13. I have completely different libraries on the computers but it doesn't matter because I have both of them set to manual sync. I don't think auto-sync on either would work but I haven't tried so not sure. You could always give it a try and see if you get the Erase Content message. Edit: I have never used auto sync but my guess would be that you could not have both set to auto or it would always be trying to match libraries and you would have to maintain briefcase libraries to maintain continuity. If just one was set to auto I have no idea what it would do.
  14. Was able to get my iPhone 4 to sync with 2 different computers. Followed the instructions from these 2 sites: DB Cloner Library code from iPhone You won't need the 2nd one if you have access to the computer that your iPhone is already linked with. Worked great, no need to jailbreak.
  15. Unboxing video: Pair that with a nice pair of metal Grados and you will achieve Steampunk Nirvana.
  16. ^^^ My fave too. Got an iPhone 4. What a major improvement over my old 3G. Quick and snappy with better battery life and a great gps that actually works better for geocaching than my Garmin. Maybe placebo but I think it sounds better too.
  17. Primo.
  18. ^^^ Auric's iPod?
  19. I need to get a handle on my family's spending so I have started looking at software to help with budgeting and tracking spending. The 2 that I am looking at: Mint is web based and looks like it might be OK. YNAB You Need a Budget is a software program that looks good as well. Anyone have experience with either of these? Any other recommendations?
  20. For you guys listening on audiobook: What do you think of the narrator? Most people evidently like him but I am not a fan of Roy Dotrice. I am looking forward to the 4th book which is narrated by one of my favorites: John Lee.
  21. Audible Err, other source...
  22. From George's website: Meanwhile... there is news. Big news. The end is in sight, at long long last, and we're close enough so that my editors and publishers at Bantam Spectra have set an actual publication date. A DANCE WITH DRAGONS will be in your favorite bookstore on TUESDAY, JULY 12, 2011
