  1. I loved my ESL57, which I sold in '85, but I only enjoyed them with jazz and classical unless I used a sub. I also had trouble finding a good position for them in my small apartment. Sometimes I wish I still had them, but it's really hard most of the time to find a good spot for a pair of dipole speakers. I bought my Polk SDA CRS around the time I sold the Quad, and they're still running great 25 years later. I am very surprised they have not started to deteriorate yet. They're currently a bit more veiled than I recall the Quad being and not quite as transparent, but the soundstage is to die for, the bass is deeper, and they're much easier to drive than the Quad were. I suspect that decrease in detail and transparency is their age showing, which is sad. I wish good things could last forever.
  2. Seems like we're all having problems with viewing the most recent updated subscriptions.
  3. Meier shows up on the HF home page as a sponsor with a link to Jan's site, but he's not listed in the Premier Sponsor Forum or Sponsor Forum. There's more discussion here: Stepdance
  4. I'm actually very curious to read what he says next, after his request to go bye bye.
  5. Interesting. I quite like the HE-6 as is, so I'm not sure in my case that I would trade sound quality for efficiency. And if I need something more efficient I'm still happy with the HE-5 LE.
  6. How do we view only our watched topics? I've looked but seem to be missing finding it.
  7. Well, if I keep telling him that enough it becomes true, right?
  8. So, VLC for iPhone has been removed from the App Store. Even though it was free, the App Store's DRM killed it due to violation of the GNU license or something like that. Being that it was free, I personally don't see what the problem was. I know that some companies can install software via Safari for iPhone, bypassing the app store, like IBM Traveler software that lets some big companies integrate their contacts, calendar and email with the iPhone. There used to be a tethering hack that could be installed via Safari as well. So, I wonder why more companies don't/can't do this, so that we don't have to jailbreak our phones to get around the App store? On the VZW iPhone front, I think having a Wifi hotspot feature built into the OS is nice. It's been reported that the iPhone OS 4.3 beta for ATT has a Wifi Hotspot feature included, but I wont use it if I have to give up my unlimited data plan for a 2Gb plan. But since VZW can't do data and voice at the same time, it seems like it may be a big compromise for many. I do seem to recall my old VZW Windows Mobile phone would pause the data connection if I was surfing, so that I could take an incoming phone call. So it may not be all bad.
  9. Don't forget I have dibs on the Moths when you go to sell them after an upgrade!
  10. Doesn't Patrick82 have a lot of experience with those two?
  11. Sorry, blew it did I. Late now for edit not happen be moar not said less.
  12. Yes, the 1/8" output of the MS16 is amplified, and apparently it makes your MDR-V6 sound better. You already had the answer to that without posting here, and now they'll punish you for that. Welcome to head-case, and sorry about your dignity.
  13. That's a good price, although the $17 ground shipping does take a bite out of the savings. Be sure to watch the suicide girls "guide to living" instructions on preparing absinthe,
  14. I gave up my K1000 for my LCD-2, and wishing maybe I had a 507 now. The LCD-2 is uncomfortable, which hurts my enjoyment a lot, although I've gotten used to the sound signature. After a source change and tube change in my WA6, the LCD-2 sound much better than when I first got them. But I like the SR-Lambda and LNS so much, and sometimes I think I enjoy them better. My son won that WEE at RMAF and so we sold his SR-Lambda for an SR-Lambda Nova Signature because he needed a pro bias phone. The LNS sound really good with the WEE through a 12 watt Nuforce Icon, or the WES. They are the closest I've heard to my SR-Lambda, and less bright/etched than I recall my old normal Signature being. I think we made a very good decision. I actually prefer the LNS over my Smegma Pro (woodied gamma pro with SR-007 pads).
  15. Even with owning the O2 Mk1, which beat all my other phones, I still find the SR-Lambda and SR-5 gold edition to be exciting and engaging to listen to. With the O2 you'll find them more demanding of a strong amp, but once you give them what they want they'll make you very happy.

  18. Well, the wifey returned the Nook Color without opening it to try it out, because she's perfectly happy with reading on the iPhone and not having to carry around a second device for books. She says if she really needs a bigger screen then she'll just use the B&W nook that we already have (with a case that has a built-in light). We then went out and bought her some nice clothes that she can wear to work, using the refund. Sigh.... Why do women have to be so practical?
  19. For me it's more of an issue of the slick iPad slipping through the fingers if used without a case. The Apple case gives me a good grip on it, and I use it one handed all the time.
  20. I find that with using the Apple iPad case it's much easier to hold one handed. I can trap a finger between the case flap and the iPad, and squeeze it tight to keep it from slipping.
  21. I think it's garden gnomes.

  23. I bought the wife a Nook Color for this Xmas. While she liked the nook from last Xmas she didn't like the lack of a backlight, and she's been reading nook books on her iPhone for the past few months. Old habits die hard and after reading on the iPhone for so long whenever she goes back to the old nook she keeps trying to tap on the B&W screen or pinch to zoom. And with her aging eyes she has the text on the iPhone so big that there's maybe only 30-40 words on a page, which means a lot of page turns. She really needs a bigger screen. I played with the Nook Color at Best Buy and I think it's perfect for her - it's fairly speedy and the display is as good as my iPad for reading books. Plus she doesn't want or need an iPad and this costs half as much. We'll likely hang onto the original nook, but I'm pretty sure she'll take to the new one like a duck to water.
  24. Sony BDP-S570 3D Wifi Bluray player. Now all we need is a 3D TV, but haven't convinced my wife that the 6 year old Sony rear projection 42" LCD needs replacing yet...
  25. Great football play - iPhone link:
