  1. The fit definitely loosens with the age of the phones and the pads, and with new pads they get fairly tight again. In my case, having owned a couple of HD600 and a couple of HD650 I prefer the clarity and balance of the HD600 over the HD650.
  2. How did we miss this one? iPad taste and smell app
  3. You don't deserve them. (is that better?)
  4. I can't wait to hear more about this one...
  5. I had a bad experience with the DT770 in the modded Darth Beyer version, twice. Both times the bass was boomy and the mids were recessed, and it put me off on the idea of owning another DT770. I by far preferred the AH-D2000 and later my modded ATH-A900. I read your review and it left me wondering are the stock DT770 really that much better than the Darth Beyer? Why would anyone take a decent sounding headphone and dress it up to sound worse? I just assumed the stock DT770 were even worse than what I heard in the woodied re-cabled version.
  6. Learned how to run the scoring and timing machine at the high school girls lacrosse game. Rested my arm on the PA microphone button and almost embarrassed myself.
  7. Happy Birthday!
  8. I might end up with one of these eventually, but I've been pretty happy with my DACport 24/96 unit for portable Macbook use. I usually don't need the inputs, but a dedicated line out is nice, and the breakout box with balanced XLR out is attractive too. My only complaint about the original Duet was some audible hiss with my custom IEM, so I hope this doesn't have too much hiss.
  9. When I upgraded our 1st Gen Intel iMac to a 500Gb 7200 rpm Seagate I could really appreciate the extra speed. Looks like an SSD is the next step, and since we only use half the space on the Seagate it appears that a smaller SSD could work for us. Monkey, what kind did you use? Also, I know Apple only supports 3Gb of RAM on this iMac model, but does anyone know if it can use more if you install it? I've heard my Macbook Pro can use 6Gb even though only 4 is supported, so I had to ask.
  10. Happy Birthday Tyler!

  12. I agree, I would do a clone in this case and swap drives. Time machine is okay if you have a new Mac and want to migrate old apps and data to it, but I prefer to work with a clone if everything is working fine for you and it's just a drive upgrade. I like that my backup can be bootable and swapped inside the Mac at any point. Time machine does have the benefit of keeping the old stuff in case you need to dig back for something you deleted or edited by accident. But time machine requires a backup drive that is bigger than the source drive you are backing up, and a clone can be the same size or smaller - you can specify while folders or files to include or ignore in the clone. Either way you end up buying an external case to put the new drive in, so you can make the clone, and then you can swap drives and have a nice external drive for backups using your old drive. I uses SuperDuper myself, but Carbon Copy Clone was not bad.

  17. Actually, I never bought a money clip knife, thanks for the reminder.
  18. If you don't want me shooting an attacker then I thought you might be happier if I had to resort to my fencing skills that I learned in college.
  19. On another note Akathisia, be VERY careful about getting a pirate or fake ATH-ESW9 if you go for one, as they are definitely out there.
  20. Not everyone would agree with that: dpreview forums 1 dpreview forums 2 Someone else online likened the difference as being "the Leica photos were warmer like Kodak film and the Panasonic was cooler like with Fuji film". I don't know if that is true or not, but I can see the difference in the photos posted online in the second link. This and the included Adobe Light Room 3 software pushed me towards the Leica, and I'm very happy with it.
  21. I also thought the demo at CanJam 2009 was amazing. I'd like to have one of these someday.

  23. Sounds like you have a good home rig but nothing to take with you yet, I also agree that an ATH-ESW10 would be a good choice for portable phones that doesnt leak sound but doesn't block too much sound either. You'd have to find a used one since they sold out, but the sound is worth it. You can use the iPhone to drive them, or a small inexpensive amp like the iBasso T3 if the Pico Slim suggested earlier is too expensive. Other decent closed phones that wont isolate too much that you can consider are the Shure SRH-840, Denon D2000, ATH-A900, and the Sennheiser HD25-1 which do isolate more than the others but would not block hearing alarms and mortars. I have not heard the ATH-ESW9 so I didn't recommend them because I don't know how good they are. If you like Stax and can deal with something that rests on the ear canal opening but doesn't need to actually enter the ear canal, you might want to consider looking for a Stax SR-001 Mk2 portable, or better yet an SR-003 with a small SRM-252 amp which would sound even better (more extended bass and treble). Something like this: Stax SRS-005 If you use the headband that comes with it you can place the eartips at the canal opening but not push the inside, and the headband will hold them there securely. That would be transportable too. Paired with a Pico DAC or iPhone line out dock you should be pretty happy.
  24. Cool. I'll watch for this. Thanks!
