Not if a woody is involved.

Thanks, sometimes you just have to accept the inevitable.

Makes me wonder if I should add more dampening to my pair.

Do they come pre-dented?

I started reading The Saga of Seven Suns series by Kevin J Anderson in April. I've been reading the books for free as eBooks from my local library, and I'm on book 6 of 7 right now. It's really enjoyable, and I'm going to be sad when I'm all done with them all and have to find something else to read. Anyway, I went to put a hold on book 7 only to discover that the library only has the first 6 books as eBooks, and book 7 is an audiobook only. Fortunately it's only $7.99 from the nook bookstore.

On a tight budget I like the iBasso D4 a lot for $220, but there is some very low volume channel imbalance at the lower end of the volume pot. If you like to listen very quietly, like when going to sleep while wearing your IEM, then feeding the D4's line-out into a Pico Slim works very well for a wide range of volume levels including insanely low volumes. I'm currently using the Pico DAC-only to feed my Pico Slim, but the improvement of the Pico DAC over the D4 DAC isn't huge although it is there. I still prefer this combo over the original Pico Amp with built-in DAC, and the Slim is more portable so I can use it with my Nano/iPhone and leave the DAC attached to my Macbook at home. If you didn't need to use it portable with an iPod/iPhone, then the CEntrance DACport is an excellent choice for USB only input, but that wont work with how you want to use it.

I got mine from Ultra-Gauge

Vendor for cheap quality cables - balanced and digital
HeadphoneAddict replied to recstar24's topic in Audio Accessories
I've bought some interconnects and a headphone extension cable from that vendor in 2008 and he did good work, although one RCA plug needed to be repaired once I haven't had an issue since. -
Well, I can't find specs for the hard drive speed on Seagate's website or in reviews, but the writing on the box claims "up to 10x faster". Oh well, not that big of a deal. Adorama is indeed willing to take the card back, but now I wonder if I should look for a faster drive since CNET says the Seagate was a little slow for a USB 3.0 drive. What I did today was watch my son's baseball team win their game 3-1, and then we ate at Wahoo's Fish Tacos afterwards. Fun.

I thought the Expresscard slots had a 1.5 or 3.0 Gbps speed limit, which is around 200-400% faster than FW800, but I could be mistaken. I know that is theoretical under the best conditions. Real life performance doesn't ever seem to be as fast as claimed, so I should know better.
-
I wouldn't wish that on anyone.

Interesting, they're the ones that sold me my USB 3.0 Expresscard through Amazon. It seems to only run about 40% faster than Firewire 800 with my external Seagate flexdrive, plus it needs a cable to draw power from a USB port because it doesn't have enough power on it's own. So I was going to return it but I missed the "14 day from purchase" deadline and I guess I'm stuck with it. Called today but they closed by 3:30 mtn time.

Yeah, I'm an addict. Theoretically I have everything I should ever want, yet I want more even though I shouldn't be spending the money. With the JH3A one thing I'd be looking for is to have a little richer and more vivid midrange, with an increase transparency and out of head imaging. I've read that the superior phase alignment of the JH3A allows the IEM to completely disappear. In all honesty, my Macbook Pro > Amarra Mini > Pico DAC > Pico Slim > JH13Pro is pretty impressive already, but I really do hear some distortion in the lows at higher volumes that shouldn't be there. Switching to the DACmini > balanced SR-71b does the same. Those are volumes that I don't often venture to, but they really should offer more headroom if asked for it. When I switch to a medium power desktop amp like DACmini or Woo WA6 this becomes a non-issue, but a portable IEM shouldn't need a desktop amp to sound clean at high volumes. I'd imagine that a tri-amped JH13 or JH16 would do better in this regard (unless there is something wrong with mine, but I reported this portable amp distortion issue in my 2009 review and it's nothing new to me). Occasionally the very deep bass seems a little boosted and disconnected from the upper bass and mids, like having a subwoofer that doesn't quite reach up to meet the satellite speaker's lower end; but with most of my rigs and music this is not an issue. Still, if I could have the JH13 Bass and Treble with the mids of my ES5 I'd be happier. Now, I have to admit that the JH16Pro demo I heard at RMAF 2010 did fix the bass/midrange balance for me, but I don't know how representative that was vs the real custom fit version. I've found that demo's don't always sound like the final custom. I seem to recall the UE11Pro demo at CanJam 2009 was a bit better than the real thing in terms of the bass/midrange balance, and I was a little disappointed with the extra bass in the final custom.

Happy birthday everyone. (think that covers them all)

My wife bought a mechanical edger to trim the grass where it meets the sidewalk, and cut the phone phone line that was shoved down between the grass and the sidewalk. I warned her about that and said we had to stick with the electric weed-wacker (the kind with rotating spool of fishing-line). Fortunately we use Comcast cable, internet and voice and have no downtime. But if we ever want to switch back to Qwest we'll be SOL. Not as bad as everyone else who're having problems, so I consider myself lucky so far - unless the neighbors start complaining about no phone service...

The non-Apple iPad 1 case was too loose and also the opening near the power switch was too big, which exposed too much of the iPad along the edge. So when the iPad slid off the nightstand onto the metal heater vent cover in the floor it got dented. It was just bad luck, and it protected the iPad from most other kinds of damage. See the extra large opening for the power switch in the photo. When I bought the case for iPad 1 it was because the Apple cases weren't available yet, and the photos online didn't show the big openings on this one. I only used it for a month until I could get an Apple case, and then put it aside until I needed it for the iPad 2 because no full-coverage cases were out for it yet.
-
It was actually in loose fitting non-OEM iPad 1 case at the time, and it slid off a nightstand two feet to the floor and hit the heater vent cover, which dented the top edge near the exposed power switch. If it had been an Apple case it would have been safe too, but I gave that to my wife with the iPad 1.

Ye Macce Threade
HeadphoneAddict replied to Hopstretch's topic in GoRedwings19's Computer Help Hotline
I'd rather pay for it and get what I need/want from it. PS: We have 5 macs, 5 iPhones and 2 iPads. Do the Macs count out of the 10 devices? The family shares one iTunes music store account, but we have a family mobile me 5-pack with our own mobile me address for each one of us.
