  1. Oh, and when this happens it's because Apple wont let you merge accounts. Back in the very beginning Apple would let people create an Apple ID for the iTunes store that was merely a user ID and not an email address. Later they started making people use an email address. So there are two types of Apple ID out there - those that are not an email and those that are. Any .mac or me.com email address became an Apple ID, so you can't use that address anymore as the email address for your non-email ID (not allowed to merge accounts as above). --- EDIT - just saw your more recent post, but I'm curious if they let you attach the "used" email address that belongs to another account with the other account that must be an email address? They have NEVER allowed that before, and it's a known issue.
  2. Thanks for the well wishes and advice - I appreciate it and I'll certainly take that under consideration. I last coughed up a lot of blood at 3AM, and only a few blood clots about 12 hours later, so thank God things look to be improving. I'll probably just bring the Apogee/KGSS/Stats, and I'll have my 13 year old son with me to help carry stuff. I'll already have the Macbook Pro with me no matter what, but maybe I'll bring a small Nuforce CD Player to use as a source if I need to grab the Macbook during the show (I have a bunch of nice CDs that I copied for RMAF last year). But if I'm still feeling like crap on Friday I'll leave that stuff at home. The Apogee headphone out can drive most dynamic headphones, it's not so good that I'd need to bring more than one dynamic phone. I'm also committed to supplying Westone with a loan of my Nuforce iDo digital iPod Dock, my SR-71b balanced amp, and balanced TWag v2 Eclipse IEM cable. They'll have that at their table. The headphone amp is at least as good as the uDAC-2, if not slightly better and also more powerful, but the RCA out and S/PDIF output are even better when feeding it lossless from an iDevice. Tyler - I freaked out last night when I couldn't find my "blood spit-cup" and thought I'd left it with you at the Apple Store. So glad that didn't happen, as I found it still sitting in my car in the garage.
  3. Try upgrading the software via the front panel.
  4. And Monkeys.
  5. Very nice shots, both of you.
  6. Thanks. If I don't get hospitalized then I'll most likely still come. But I've lost about 8 oz of blood in 48 hours right now. Hopefully the new antibiotic will kick in soon and I'll be doing better by Friday. If not, I might have to go to the cath lab to get some blood vessels in my lung embolized again (titanium coils, or plastic injections). Unless I'm sick or over 7,500 feet altitude, I usually travel to Denver with a small cpap machine, even though I sleep with 2l of oxygen at home. But now I'll have to find room in the car for my big oxygen concentrator and portable tank filler, meaning a LOT less space for headphone gear. My original plan was to bring a "160Gb Apple TV, Nuforce CDP-8, and Macbook Pro > PWD > ZDT with WEE, KGSS and WES" + 6-8 high-end stat and dynamic phones. I even thought about running a DLNA/uPNP server on the Macbook and plugging that and the Bridge into a router. I think I'll have to condense that down to a Macbook > Apogee Mini-DAC > balanced-only KGSS with LNS, O2 and HE-60. That would be a fairly small and light-weight rig to bring in comparison. A DACmini > HD800, LCD-2 and HE-500 would be even smaller. Or if I'm feeling up to it I can bring both small rigs.
  7. I'll get in around 1pm if everything goes according to plan (i.e. not in hospital).
  8. Well, I wonder if the tri-amp will still use "EQ" to reduce the frequencies going to each driver. That isn't quite the same as an active cross-over, is it? And I'm not sure that the small components in the ear-piece crossover really have that much adverse effect on the sound, do they? But being able to improve phase coherence through the DAC>DSP>amp instead of with the passive crossover and audio filters should still result in a nice improvement.
  9. I know what you're going through. My daughter did the east coast college trip summer 2010 to see 7 schools in 8 days, and she put her top choices as Boston U, Princeton and Cornell. Then we went to see Duke over spring break this year and she put Duke at the top of her list. She's already completed an early decision application to Duke, and we're finishing up the financial aid forms. She is such an extraordinary student/kid that she didn't need to do early decision to get in, but she can't imaging not going there and it increases her chances three-fold. Unfortunately this might cost us as much as $5-10K a year less in scholarships and grants because we can't pit the schools against each other with better offers. Anyway, we're going to try to enjoy the next 10 months before she goes away, but it just feels wrong to not have her living here with us all the time when she starts school. And Wayne, sorry for your loss. Also, I don't think you are that overweight, I think of you more like the giant Hagrid from Harry Potter. You carry your height well.
  10. Happy birthday!
  11. Yeah, it was really nice one year when Ben and I had dinner with Fang, FeiFei and all the Woo gang and we enjoyed our time together. (I feel like I'm leaving someone out here)
  12. [sorry for whining here] I watched my daughter's field hockey team win their game up in Denver today after several losses, but the trip was really tough on me since I've been coughing up large amounts of blood lately. Usually the treatment for me, due to my lung disease, is oxygen to lower my pulmonary blood pressure and antibiotics since there is an area of granuloma that bleeds when infected. (fibrosing mediastinitis and pulmonary vein obstruction) I never know when I'll start doing this or how bad it will get - with some respiratory infections I'm fine, and other times just a brief visit to >8,000 feet will start it. I went through a tank and a half of oxygen in 7 hours today, but normally I can get 8-10 hours from a single tank if I don't have to crank it up when sick and bleeding. I've been sick this time around since 9/19, and on my 3rd antibiotic (Amoxil > Zithromax > Zyvox). In other news, for the past 2-3 weeks my wife's iPhone 3GS intermittently stops taking/making calls and stops showing up on "find my iPhone". I finally had to spend a couple of hours just now to do a fresh iOS 4.3.3 install and set it up as a new phone without re-storing anything from backup, because previous fresh iOS installs and restore from backup didn't fix the problem. I'm not going to install any of the jailbreak apps this time either (jailbroke it to preserve the baseband for when I sell it to someone who needs an unlock). If this doesn't fix it then I'll have to upgrade to the latest iOS and baseband, hoping to get a properly functioning phone. I'd be able to JB it again later, just not unlock it. [/pity party over]
  13. That video made me car sick.
  14. Doesn't the 2nd Gen Apple TV support 24/96 audio via optical, or is that only for HDMI? You can stream to that with AirPlay, although it won't extend the network or act as router later if you need that from the AExp.
  15. That's so beautiful. I'd love to use a hi-res version as my Mac's desktop photo.
  16. Those are a big part of why I have chronic tinnitus now - as a stupid teenager in the 70's I played them loud enough to make my ears almost bleed (and the other part was the loud concerts - Kiss, Peter Frampton, Heart). I loved them at the time out of my Marantz 2240, but I wonder if I'd still like them today.
  17. You must have really long arms and legs to drive from back there! We kept our Verizon MiFi so that none of us would have to give up our unlimited iPhone data, or risk being caught tethering through a jailbreak. ATT has somehow figured out when people are tethering with a jailbreak on an unlimited plan, and they kick them into a metered plan with tethering after one warning. I found the MiFi was the best way to keep unlimited data and still do the occasional tethering (unless we could truly hide jail-broken tethering from ATT). We've found that a mobile hotspot can be very handy when the home internet is down, and not just when going on short and long trips. We often don't realize how important our internet access is until we have to do things with a computer that's not online. My son can do homework while tagging along on errands or when I drag him to his sister's high school sports. A $10 Boingo WiFi account is cheaper, but you wont find them at the high school gym. And last year Justin and two other vendors used my mobile hotspot for internet at CanJam @ RMAF, and I was able to leave the hotspot with them when I left the room. I did the math once, and if I set up everyone in the house for iPhone tethering and nixed the VZW MiFi, then the basic 2+2Gb per iPhone would only cost us $25 more than our unlimited plans + MiFi. However, the kids use a lot iPhone data with streaming video and music, so they would go over the limit fairly often. It might actually cost us about $100/mo more than what we spend now. So it's not worth the trade-off.
  18. That's a nice looking band. Hadn't seen that one before.
  19. When I ordered online Apple made me ship to my home address which was the one AT&T had, instead of my billing address. All I had to do was call Apple on the phone a few hours later with the order numbers for both phones, and they changed the shipping address for me after the order, without protest.
  20. This µDAC thing is gonna get confusing, since Headroom has the UDAC (Ultra DAC) and Nuforce has the uDAC-2.
  21. It's too bad they arrive on 10/14 which is the first day of RMAF. I leave for Denver at 11 AM, so it's not likely that I'll get to set up and use my new phone until the Monday after.
  22. Not trying to be funny here or anything, but I was just as sad when uncle Frank on Jimmy Kimmel died recently. Since my father in law died 2 months ago I've been more sensitive to other's deaths.
  23. Why is it a disappointment? 2x faster CPU and 7x faster graphics, longer battery life with better antennae and faster 3G speed, better camera and video, 64Gb to handle the bigger 1080p video, form factor is familiar and comfortable.
  24. Success for one of the two iPhone 4s that we wanted (after almost 2 hours) of trying to get past the web site errors. Went for the 64Gb with the Applecare+, and now time for some sleep.
