  1. I didn't mind the ads much on my kindle touch screen, but it didn't stop me from paying $25 (or so) to remove them. It didn't feel like it was "my" kindle until I got a clean home screen.
  2. Yep, the final full custom version from JH Audio has never disappointed, even when I heard flaws in the universal demos that I tried. Based on the fact that the universal demo of the Roxanne (sp) was so good I think the new 12-driver custom is going to be a winner, yet will not ruin the experience of the JH13 or JH16 which are awesome. I'm still looking for more people to post their impressions, to see if I'm off my rocker.
  3. Sending good vibes you're mom's way. [i had to edit missing letters, I'm typing faster than iOS 7 can keep up]
  4. Seriously, did some of you guys not see how screwed up mine was in the photo I posted? It's like the fucking leaning tower of Pisa! Panoramic photos are completely screwed, and skewed at an angle. One can't enjoy games with it when you have to hold it at the angle in the photo to go straight. I must be holding it wrong. There is no way to universally recalibrate a new iPhone 5s right now, and I didn't want to deal with this issue in a new phone. I'll simply buy a new one when the problem is resolved. Ain't nothing wrong with my iPhone 5 or 4s. I'm happier to wait until they figure it out, but as of right now they won't even acknowledge the problem despite dozens of tech news sites, magazines, and users posting about the issue.
  5. I've been using the D2 as a replacement for Airport Express, as the optical out and RCA out are very noticeably better than the Airport express doing the same thing. I can remote control the Mac with the D2 transmitter via Apple Remote on iPhone, and listen anywhere I have the receiver connected.
  6. As well as saving them for the display units? I went back to the Apple store and all of their 5s were off by 1-4 degrees. You saw how much I had to tilt mine to read level (2.5 - 3.0 degrees) which threw off everything from racing games and night sky viewing star charts, and panoramic photos. I did agree to a replacement, but they had no 64GB ATT, and to ship one in 1-3 weeks would have put me past my return period.
  7. I've been pretty excited about the Audioengine D3 USB stick, which does 24/96 and sounds just like my Pico DAC/Slim combo but for only $189. I don't have any DSD music yet, but was willing to give the Herus a try with the 15% discount and $1 shipping. But for full price I'll just stick with my Nuforce Icon DAC with DSD support, and choice of coax digital or analog out. And when I'm portable I'll use the tiny D3. I understand the Herus could replace both, but I'm not that hungry for it.
  8. Their online store doesn't have a coupon field...
  9. New Firmware update for MacBook Air June 2012-2013 might work, or it might tell you to replace your 64GB or 128GB hard drive. Replacement is free in the first three years of ownership. http://www.ubergizmo.com/2013/10/apple-warns-of-ssd-failures-in-macbook-air/?utm_source=mainrss
  10. So you both got a 5s with a properly calibrated accelerometer? I was reading a thread at macrumors.com where only 6% out of 158 people had a 5s that read "0" on a level surface. I figured that the only people who'd go there to find the poll and reply would be the ones with a problem, not the people whose phone is fine. But the first 4 phones I checked on display were also off by 1-3 degrees - it could be almost everyone with the problem, or only a few hundred of us. I was willing to return it for a replacement and see if that fixed the problem, but they didn't have a 64GB ATT version anywhere in Colorado at the time.
  11. I really liked the Roxxane (Roxanne?) demos with the complys tips - they had great imaging for a universal fit, and reminded me a lot of my JH16Pro freqphase but with adjustable bass (could go way up, or more flat) and a somewhat smoother treble. Not sure how that will relate to the actual custom's sound, but the customs usually sound better than the demos, in my experience. I would like to get a pair for myself. PS: I listened to them with my own gear - iPhone 5s with lossless music and camera connection kit, Pico DAC, and Pico Slim with a 90-degree copper silver interconnect (I think Steven Kelby made the IC for me a while back).
  12. I returned my iPhone 5s before the return period was up (30 days with Apple but 14 days with ATT to keep the subsidy available for another phone). The accelerometer was too far off level and no fix in sight yet. All my race cars drive into the left wall if I hold the phone level (see photo). I'll order another one in a few weeks when Apple acknowledges the issue and has a solution. Or, I'll spend the money on a retina iPad mini if they announce one on 10/22.
  13. His GF was polishing his dome while driving, which explains his lack of attention to the road...
  14. Happy birthday!
  15. I'm here and about to head out to the ballroom floor to check out CanJam with my son.
  16. Sounds like a great start. We haven't had to do the puppy training for 13 years, but I'm sure some day we'll be there again. As for cats, my wife vetoes the idea of another one once these two have passed on,
  17. Seriously? Why assume wooden cups will be warmer sounding, or better? And, I have a KGBH built by luvdunhill that is optimal for SR-007, SR-009, and HE-60 - no mods needed, no tube swaps or cable tweaking needed to make it sound good with any of them. Granted, I can't say the same for the KGSS that he built, which my HE-60 don't like as much as the Stax do.
  18. www.Cablejive.com makes a 30 pin adapter cable that has both a 1/8" headphone jack and a USB jack on one end. So you can connect (1) a mini-mini cable between the dock and the 5s headphone out and (2) a lightning charging cable to the USB, while the 30 pin socket on the other end is connected to the actual 30-pin dock. I have one and it works well. The 5 and 5s headphone out sounds much better than an Apple 30-pin to lightning adapter with the crappy DAC inside the adapter.
  19. Nice. I read somewhere that the 9010 movement can compete quite well with some of the ETA movements. I have 5 Citizen eco-drive watches, and was considering a Citizen automatic before I bought my first Hamilton. I was considering this one http://www.amazon.com/Citizen-NB0040-58E-Signature-Collection-Automatic/dp/B0091N5H6Y/ref=sr_1_26?s=watches&ie=UTF8&qid=1381561330&sr=1-26&keywords=Citizen+automatic+watch but it's not different enough from many of the watches I already own with black dial and SS bracelet. You may have made a better choice here.
  20. Another Hamilton - got a great deal with 30% off, and then 100% trade-in on my Citizen Proximity that I bought from them, to bring it to just below 50% of retail. Been wearing it 23 hours a day since Monday and it's only gained 5 seconds.
  21. I'm sleeping in, see you around 9AM.
  22. My teenage son Benjamin had his Eagle Scout Board of Review last night, which he completed with flying colors. Now we're getting ready to take him out for dinner tonight to celebrate his being a new Eagle Scout! That was many years of hard work and dedication. We're so proud.
  23. I haven't seen this one in a long time
  24. The sump pump seems quite powerful, based on how fast it sucked the water out of the window well once it was turned back on. Other than the biblical rain we got on the 12th and 15th this month, we've never seen this much water in our backyard and it might never happen again. There was something close in 2005 when we built the house, but even without any landscaping installed yet we didn't have this much water coming through back then. On the 15th it rained almost as hard as the 12th when we got wet, and the sump pump worked great. So the cause of the tripped breaker is still a mystery. How often should a sump pump be replaced, as routine maintenance? FEMA came by today to introduce themselves to all the neighbors who had water get into their houses after the NORAD mudslide. It seems that only three houses on the block got wet, but the other two homeowners had their basements filled up with mud and debris. We were SO MUCH LUCKIER than most others. They still encouraged us to register with FEMA so we could get help for anything that insurance doesn't cover, and maybe a low interest SBA loan to re-grade the property as a safe-guard. A 1-2% loan would be much better than 9% on a credit card, but we're not banking on it (pun intended). These guys were really friendly and helpful, and we have an inspector coming over this weekend.
  25. yeah, I was very persistent the three times I spoke to the Ins Co. I think it helped with our claim that the builder stated they designed the window wells to drain to the sump pump, and that if it had been working the basement would not have taken on water. And we had a witness that the breaker tripped, as well as our alarm on the same circuit reported a power outage during the event (but it runs on a battery backup so it didn't shut down). This meant we could honestly say problem originated from within the house. The damage estimate is up to $5,500 with drywall and painting (not incl landscaping). So far the most important things are fixed out of pocket - the water, and the shorted electrical socket. We have plenty of time to put it all back together. So, should we also put a large PC battery backup on the sump pump, like the alarm? It's never rained hard enough to make the sump pump trip the breaker, but I'd worry about burning up the motor if it's run hard enough to trip the breaker and we give it backup power. But backup power would be good if there is a general power outage during a storm. Re-grading the landscape in the back might be more effective. In 8 years we never saw water building up like this, and it isn't likely to happen again, but there is no guarantee NORAD wont get a mudslide again and re-direct all the rainwater in our direction.
