That photo of the touchable areas of the screen with and without stretch is interesting. I would not be surprised if Steve Jobs used something like that to confirm why his position was there was no way in hell they were gonna make a phone this big. I really want to be able to use my phones one-handed, but when I'm using my iPhone 6 in one hand and walking with my cane in the other hand I find it very difficult to reach the top left of the screen with my right thumb. The "double tap" on the home button to drop the screen down halfway is a lifesaver, but still feels awkward after 2 days. And while the screen pops right back up in the place afterwards, sometimes we're not done tapping on things at the top of the screen and then we have to go back to the home button then double tap it again. So I still twist my hand around the phone enough to reach the top of the screen, at the risk of dropping it more easily. But my left thumb was damaged in a big motorcycle accident in 1983, so one-handed operation with my left hand is almost impossible. I was looking forward to my iPhone 6+ arriving on October 13, after pre-ordering it on September 12 (the website crashed during my order, and when it came back up my upgrade was not available anymore until later in the day), But after living with the iPhone 6 for a few days I am worried that the 6+ really will be too big and I'll have to return it - however, under the advice of the Apple sales person I'm going to give the 6+ a try for a week or two. My wife and daughters have small hands so none of the girls want the 6 or 6+ because it's too big for them. ALERT - the T-Mobile no-contract iPhone 6's at the Apple store are unlocked and mine worked right out of the box with my AT&T SIM card when I picked it up Saturday. Regardless, I plan on keeping the unlocked T-Mobile iPhone 6 as our backup phone and selling 2-3 64 GB unlocked AT&T phones in it's place. Note - I have also been reading that the phones actually sold by T-Mobile are still locked.

We upgraded to Comcast Blast which doubled our speed, but also got a package deal with more features than we have now for $50 a month less. Our monthly goes up by $20 in a year, and back up another $30 to normal cost in 2 years. But we'll save $900 over the next two years when the monthly cost goes back to what we were paying last month. And there is still no contract.

You can try to reset the SMC by pressing Left Shift-Control-Option-Power while it's plugged in. You should see the power LED blink that confirms it's been reset. I'm worried that the 6+ will look silly big, but I'm drawn to the optical image stabilization and huge battery life. Not sure what to get, so I ordered both, and plan to cancel or return one. Maybe I need to go to the AT&T store and handle a few phones with giant screens now.

Well, I have some Raythen 6AK5 tubes in it, and with the Pico DAC and HD800 it sounded better than any other <$250 amp with the HD800. YMMV.

Confirmed - the Applecare+ $79 deductable covers accidental damage, including my iPhone 5s that was folded in half. For $49 it covered my wife's iPad mini with cracked screen and squished power button.

At first I found that my Marantz 2240 vintage receiver made the HD800 sound warm and inviting with very punchy bass, but as stated here it kills what's special about the HD800 (you lose detail, soundstage, and speed). Are you looking at vintage for the synergy with HD800 or for the lower price? It's possible to have both. Far better for HD800, on a tight budget, is the Nuforce Icon DAC which adds warmth and impact to the HD800 without killing all the detail and soundstage (at least for a budget amp). This is the one that does DSD with a computer USB, and works with Android devices via USB. The built-in amp is pretty good vs other DAC/amps in the $300 price range, and the DAC is is nothing to sneeze at. It sounds like a device costing twice as much. As a matter of fact, it's synergy with HD800 is much better than with my CEntrance DACmini, which makes my HD800 more fatiguing and cold sounding. A HiFiMan EF2 is even cheaper but pairs fairly well with HD800 for a warm romantic euphonic sound, although with less power. But it's DAC is not good enough to show what HD800 can do, and it needs to be paired with a much better DAC.

Yeah. I'm being told that I may be able to get a replacement 5s since I have AppleCare+ IF the phone is in one piece (90 degree bend but one piece). It will either cost $49 or $269, depending on the mood of the genius when I go in on Tuesday. They could try to charge me full price. I'm very happy with the 5s and might just stick with that for a while if I can't get a discounted one.

I was talking about a Mk2. I'm not desperate enough for the DSD upgrade either. I have a Nuforce DSD DAC with coax out that I can always use to feed into the Mk2 if needed.

Funny you mention that, today my son thought I should add a 3" tap-light like the one we have in our Thule box for the roof rack of the car. I'm going to install one of those on a velcro tab. Thanks! Unfortunately not. I could probably sell it to a news station for the cost of a new phone? I'll keep that in mind. The smartest solution is to replace the 4s battery and then wait for the new iPhones to be released in 1-2 months, and then sell the unlocked 64GB 4s for $300 after that (or keep it as a spare). I don't mind the 4s but now all my cases and accessories are for the 5s...

Nah, but I will give Subaru feedback that if they'd maybe put a light on the rear hatch when it's open at night, then we'd (1) not need to use the iPhone as a flashlight and set it on the upper door sill (or hatch sill), or (2) We'd see the iPhone was in harms way before closing it. In my case, I used my phone as a flashlight sitting at the top of the hatch to unpack our bags, and then I got in the driver seat to turn off the "hatch memory" button so the hatch would open higher. We'd previously programmed it to only open 90% of the way in case I was in a low garage. But when I banged my head on the hatch leaning in I was upset and went to "undo" the hatch position memory switch, and forgot the phone was there. Unfortunately I'd hit the close button right next to the memory button by accident, and didn't react until I heard the crunching of the phone. Emotions mess us up and we stop thinking clearly, and I got the two buttons mixed up. My main complaint with the Forester is actually inadequate lighting in the back, and no lights in the glove box and vanity mirrors. It's not like they couldn't run power there - they had no trouble sending electricity to a power motor to the hatch, and electricity to the dash and rear-view mirror. This model has all the bells and whistles, except for extra lights. They went to the trouble to install auto-dimming side-view and rear-view mirrors, but then only gave us a tiny light in the side of the rear compartment that's covered by luggage 90% of the time. The Mk2 is pretty sweet, but maybe you can find a fresh used one for sale and sell the Mk1 to make up some of the cost? I'd bet people will still pay $1000-1500 for a Mk1, when they previously were selling for $2K used before the Mk2 came out. Either way, the Mk1 was still a very good DAC.

That's a great phone, but I'd like to be able to share my iCloud data between all my devices. I'd be happy with a 5s again, but can't stand to spend the same amount of money on last year's 5s if a new model comes out in 1-2 months. My wife offered to take her old 4s back and give me her new 5s, which I thought was sweet but I declined. It's crazy that I even brought the old phone with us on the trip, but it came in handy. When we get back home in a few days I'm going to get a new battery for the spare iPhone 4s that I'm using now, and use it for a couple of months until the iPhone 6 comes out. Tonight the battery level dropped from 100% to 30% in just 5 hours, which is not unusual for a 3 year old phone. I just can't believe the rear power hatch folded up the old phone like a sammich.

But it feels a bit lighter on the head, and the soundstage is much bigger.

Headed up to Denver to stay the night before going to Glenwood Springs and the Snowmass Jazz Festival Saturday - Monday. Discovered the brand new Subaru Forester's rear hatch power door lift is quite powerful when closing, especially if you forget where you left your 10 month old iPhone 5s. Realized I brought a spare 64GB unlocked iPhone 4s with me, and didn't have a SIM card adapter to use the 5s Nano SIM. Hoping the scotch tape holds the SIM in place until I can get a new SIM in the morning before we take off. No new 5s for me, will wait for the 6 to come out.

Nice watch. I've played with that one a few times at the store and like the white, grey and blue dials. Hard to decide which color is better when you see them all in person.

If we have the Forester XT, Tribeca, and Impreza 2.5 RS does that count as three memberships?

Senn should just start making the HE-60 again. It's better than the HE-90 in many ways, if you upgrade the amp.

We liked Suzuki, as long as it wasn't my 1980's Samurai. We've had lots of different cars in the past 15 years, but a memorable one was our 2001 Suzuki XL7 with third row seats, and we loved it for 7 years. We did a lot of carpooling in it, and often took the kids and their friends out when a 5 passenger wasn't big enough. My wife drove it while I was enjoying a 2000 Impreza RS and then a 2004 STi. Then I got the 2006 Tribeca as a 1 year old NOS and my wife liked the extra room inside, so she traded the XL7 for a 2008 Outlook when the XL7 transmission started to go. That 8 seater was even better because then each kid could bring a friend to the movies or amusement park without needing a second car. But then the Outlook was traded for my G35x when I wanted more a more sporty ride again, and the 2006 Tribeca was traded for the 2013 Tribeca for my wife. And now I'm back to Subaru again (although we always seem to have 1-2 of them since 2000). I did think hard about it, and really wish I could have gotten both the Crosstrek Hybrid and the Forester XT combined into one car - i.e. the looks and mileage of the Hybrid + the power and space of the XT. I think the Crosstrek looks really cool, and maybe I could have tolerated the lack of power if I was okay with rev'ing it up to 5-6K rpm all the time. Since I couldn't test drive it that high, there was no way to know if it might become sufficient if pushed harder, but I suspect with 4-5 of us inside and luggage for a weekend outing that it would be a dog in the mountains. Cons - we both wish that the front seats in the Forester were as form fitting as those in the Crosstrek hybrid, which really keep you secure in place with hard cornering (like the 2005 Impreza 2.5 RS that my daughter drives). I really like having a spare tire, dual climate control, 440 watt Harmon Kardon 8 speaker stereo, and power seats that the Hybrid didn't have. The power rear hatch isn't that special, but the the 250hp and double the cargo space is. It's like my son's 2007 RAV4 with aftermarket stereo and subwoofer, but with an extra 100 bhp and better cornering.

I've been using the same knife as my every day carry for years, and got one for my son last year. We went with the half serrated blade, mine in black/Stainless, and my son with green/black DLC.

Yeah, I like mine as much as my Rolexes! I have an approx 10 year old Seamaster Great White GMT on shark mesh, a 2009 Planet Ocean with orange bezel, and a pair of 2014 Seamaster Pro with ceramic bezel (one with and one without the chronograph). I also have a 1962 Seamaster De Ville Date gold-cap dress watch as a birth year watch, and a plain Jane 1962 SS Seamaster.

I love my Seiko SKX173 diver with SS bracelet, and think their automatics are pretty neat. I also have a 42mm Orient Mako XL blue satin dial that's also a great budget automatic (now owned by Seiko). But lately I've been just wearing my Omega and Rolex watches the most. I bought each of my brother's a Seiko 5 automatic dress watch this year, and gave them an Orient Mako for sporting purposes as well. But I liked my Citizen watches too much to give away, as much as I like giving things away to people I love. So I'm not a complete Omega/Rolex snob yet, although I did give Ben an Omega Seamaster Pro mid-size as an Eagle Scout achievement award this year, so that he can join the fine-watch club with me.
