  1. I'm out of surgery, and all drugged up. Put a rod in my left femur tonight. In two or three days will have to operate on my left broken ankle, and my broken right knee cap. They tell me my daughter just got out of surgery, and she will need a second operation too. I'm drifting off to sleep - will update you guys later. They can't do anything about the four broken ribs. Peace
  2. Going into surgery now. Wish me luck! Pray for my daughter and me please!
  3. The other guy slid sideways and was crossing our lane and we hit his passenger side. He rolled multiple times and walked away with bruises and went to ER in a neck brace. No idea his status due to HIPPA. This is so fucked up. My daughter is not quite as bad off. My ribs severely bruised and dislocated. Hard to breath. I'll need surgery both legs. She on one leg. About to be transported to Denver.
  4. EMT thought they'd find dead occupants. Fuck this hurts!
  5. In ER. Severe head-on car crash. Two broken legs both of us. Need transport and surgery. Pray for us please! Edit - can post between pain meds. Pickup crossed the center median at 60-70mph due to ice, hit us driving 60-70 mph. We had no ice but daughter hit brakes didn't swerve. Head on into pickup with high closing speed. Needed jaws of life to cut me out, remove door and b pillar. My Left femur and fibula broke. Right patella ripped in half (dashboard is almost on the front seat, hard to breath due to seatbelt bruises. Mild head injury and a few lacerations car crushed in). She broke both ankles with open fracture on right.
  6. Finished moving my daughter into storage at 2:30 AM yesterday, and left for Nashville after 6 hours of sleep. Now driving to Kanasas City today, and we're ready for this to be over. Exhausted doesn't describe us well enough...
  7. Get well kiddos!!
  8. That was completely unhelpful, thanks anyway.
  9. No, failure to disperse. ...
  10. Yeah, but it's more expensive to ship her car back and fly her back, since we don't want to store it in NC for 8 months. We can use the car here in Colorado. Plus we'd have to ship about 300lbs of her stuff back to last her until August. This way saves us $400-500 even with my $135 flight, 5 nights of hotel, meals, and gas at 30mpg x 1600 miles. Plus, she needs me to help her move out of her dorm and place whatever she doesn't need until her senior year into a storage unit. She'll be away for a semester abroad in the spring, which is while she' snot going back till August.
  11. On a plane about to leave for Duke U to drive back with my daughter. Airplane mode here we go.
  12. Someone killed Asr's B22 at a headphone meet by hot swapping phones with music playing. It sucked.
  13. Great to hear that Shelly! My son's Retina MBP 15" came back with a new LG Rev2 screen, and no more image retention. In the online polls it's as good as the Samsung screen. They also cleaned out the sticky keys on his keyboard, so we're very happy. Glad we bought Applecare, so we still have warranty until July 2015.
  14. Crap - I sat on my Windows 7 Ultimate for almost 2 years, before finally installing it last February in Boot Camp because XP was going to lose support (only to run Quicken financial software). If I don't run anything except Quicken, not even IE and I have no email accounts installed (nor any other apps other than McAfee and Quicken), would it be safe to keep using 7 after support runs out?
  15. Just wait until you replace the stock tires with something better next summer, like the sport tires that come on the STi, and you'll be even more amazed! Might be a Bridgestone RE-01R. The grip is so much better that it makes it well worth having to mount different tires for the winter. Your post makes me almost wish I'd gone for the WRX this summer, instead of the Forester XT Turbo; but my wife and kids thank me often for going for the one with more room. The Forester XT has sport tuned suspension like the WRX, so all I need is some sport tires and an exhaust myself. For now I'm on Blizzak WS80 that break loose on warm days much too easily, but they've been great on the several days of snow that we've had. It handles better on the snow and ice than my wife's Tribeca with new Yokahama Iceguard tires. What brand exhaust did you buy, so I can avoid that kind if it's too loud?
  16. I told my daughter the same things, that blocking traffic could become dangerous for many reasons. But they were arrested later on a city street with many alternate streets right around the street they were on. I'd understand more if the arrests came while blocking the highway, but the police likely feared the huge numbers earlier in the evening. I wasn't very supportive of her when this happened, and I'm trying to be better about it, but I initially berated her for her poor timing and risking her life and career, saying she could offer a lot more to the downtrodden after she graduates and gets through law school. Then I saw a video she took & it pissed me off, because the police acted just like the assholes I didn't think they were. When the police put on all that riot gear for a peaceful protest, and act like nobody has rights and trample over people, they are asking for things to get violent. The police chief was fed up and decided to get punitive, and when the last group of arrests were made at the new location they didn't ask them to disperse and warn them that failure to comply would result in arrests. They didn't want the "fish to get away". They corralled these young college students like cattle, refusing eye contact and negotiation, and threw them to the ground and cuffed them. NONE of them expected what was coming till it happened. The police chief was quoted as saying that they wouldn't get involved or make arrests unless the protesters started pushing into them, and yet it was the police that pushed into the protesters and grabbed them out of the crowd. And while this is happening I'm listening to the video and hearing my terrified daughter scream out in fear, "Where is the path out, where is the path out, I want to go home!" and then the video ended as the police took away her camera and pulled the battery. I cried.
  17. Happy Birthday!
  18. I did a google search, and found that this other person blogged about the protest, with the same description of events as my daughter had told me, corroborating her story. http://www.candidslice.com/riot-police-and-peaceful-protesters-a-die-in-in-durham/
  19. I'm all freaked out by worries myself. I spent most of Friday night (and Sat AM) staying awake and dealing with the Durham County Jail, after my daughter was arrested in the Eric Garner non-indictment protest (also Michael Brown protesters joined in). She's a Duke pre-law student, minoring in global health and human rights. You guys would love her, she's nothing like me. If this is TL;DR then stop here. My daughter videotaped the event, and after the crowd of 300-400 people were ordered to disperse from the performing arts center about half of them moved on to another location, blocking the highway on their way. Once there, without being ordered to disperse from the new location, the riot police arrived and blocked off both ends of the street. It was NOT a riot, it was a peaceful but disruptive protest for human rights. On her video the police silently moved in from both ends of the block, with only one small opening for a few people to squeeze through, still not giving the protestors any commands to comply with, nor responding to requests by people who wanted to leave and couldn't find the way out. She says people asked "Am I being detained, or am I free to go?" and the police simply pushed them back into the corral. They weren't even read their rights, just given the silent treatment and pushed around. Some people were beat, including one of her friends, but my daughter didn't catch that on tape. She said she saw a path out in a gap in the police line and tried to leave, but there were too many people and the police closed off the one exit and arrested the last 31 people that they'd surrounded, which scared off the other 150 people who slipped through. My daughter wasn't so lucky, and she ended up handcuffed against a police van and terrified in tears, as seen near the end of this ABC news video and report. http://abc11.com/video/embed/?pid=424487 http://abc11.com/news/protesters-block-some-downtown-durham-streets/424487/ The press and police made it sound like this was a violent protest, when in fact there was no damage done to person or property, and it was NEVER violent. Any blood colored paint thrown on the street was water soluble, and she didn't do any of that since she was recording it. The abc news report blatantly lied, saying a police cruiser was smashed, which did damage to the protest's reputation as peaceful, before they retracted the statement in writing as having been a mistake (they should update the video too). They also wrote that police found an explosive device and described what sounds like a molotov cocktail, which is actually rumored by the protestors to be the top end of a tiki torch which was laying on the ground in the nearby area. And, in the video it shows them being told to disperse at the beginning, but that was from the earlier protest outside of the performing arts center and not from the time my daughter was arrested. Many people joined the protest after that, and her video shows that they didn't make the demand again, so many people caught up in the second protest were never at the first one where the command to disperse was issued. Surprise. The police also reported that many people came in from the outside of the area and manipulated the protest, when in fact almost all of the people from other states were Duke students who are attending school in NC, working in NC, and paying taxes there. My daughter was listed in the local newspaper as being one of the out of staters, since her driver's license is still from CO, even though she's lived in NC for 2.5 years and works there, paying state income taxes. Bail was set at $2,000 each for over 30 people arrested, but the protesters who were not caught helped put up all of the cash to bond them out; so fortunately I didn't have chip in any cash and she was out of jail by 6AM Saturday. They also have a pro-bo lawyer handling the case who volunteered to represent them all pro-bono, whom she will speak with tomorrow. Many of those arrested were not read their rights, some were subjected to police brutality, and many were also booked under an officer who didn't actually make their arrest, so they can't even confront their accuser. Thankfully they didn't erase the SD card in her camera, which should help with her lawyer. She's hoping she can get her case dropped. The timing of this is terrible - It's finals week, and it's only one week before I fly out to Duke to drive back home with her. Finals end on the 13th and she has to be completely moved out of the dorm by the 15th, but her 1st court date isn't until the 18th. We were going to drive back on the 15th, and now our return trip is delayed and uncertain. She was then going to be away from Duke until next August, but may have to return for more court appearances, so they can use this as leverage against her to get her to plead guilty so she'd be free to travel without costly extra return flights. It's a serious concern because In January she's leaving for NYC to launch her semester abroad in Human Right Studies (Nepal, Jordan, Chile), and she will be out of the country until next May. I've already paid for her non-refundable flight to NYC, plus if the Judge doesn't let her go she will have pissed away another $25,000 in cash for non-refundable tuition and international airfare. And if she doesn't attend full-time in school at a Duke approved institution she could lose her financial aid, meaning we'll also owe Duke almost $7,700 in addition to the $25,000 we paid to the external study abroad program! This could be devastating if things go the wrong way. FML I need a drink...
  20. I'm curious, would Audirvana 2 work fine as expected if you'd left it as the default app for your music instead of keeping 1.5?
  21. I always thought the reason to go to 48K or 96K was so that the phase distortion from the sharp cutoff filters before digitizing would occur above the audible frequency range. I may have used the wrong terminology, so please forgive me. Anyway, next thing we'll see is them bringing back dbx decoders, and touting compression-decompression routines again, to save space that 16bit and 24bit files are wasting, in the quest for reasonable S/N ratios with 8bits encoding.
  22. And I'm so sorry that I didn't see this before I went to Apple, or I would have asked them about this.
  23. I went to upgrade my son's 2012 MBP retina to Yosemite, and discovered that the image retention had become so bad that after 10 minutes in the app store that it's window would still show up on a new background for almost 20 minutes - he was complaining about it for months and I didn't believe him. My late 2013 model that I bought this February doesn't do this at all. Took it to the Apple store today, and they agreed to replace the screen under the Applecare warranty.
  24. Wow, my pioneer has 5 HDMI, and with yours I have no idea what half of them do.
  25. The best sounding iPhones so far have been the 4S and the 6+, and I've owned them all except for the original 2G and the 5C. The 6 might be just as good, but I've not spent as much time listening to the 6, but I can say the 6 definitely sounds better than our iPhone 5 or 5S.
