Happy Birthday!
-
There's a little spring loaded button on the inside of the link that retracts two tiny hooks at the inside edges of the link to release the link (look like a beefed up version of the hooks on the old 30-pin male iPod connector). I preferred the classic buckle leather, and then the link bracelet second, with the milanese loop third. Sport band is hard to use, didn't like it.

I'm praying that I get my "July" reward in time for my daughter's birthday in the middle of July...
-
That was my son's reward as well. My reward was getting an opportunity to give him a nice watch for a good reason.

Happy belated birthday!

I worry that he's been spoiled just a little, and I'm not sure that a college freshman should be wearing a Rolex, unless he inherited it through my death sooner than later. He doesn't brag or show off his watches, but just wears them with confidence. After this it's TLDR His watch history is convoluted. He would usually wear cheap Timex digital watches until I gave him his first Citizen perpetual chronograph in 2013 for making the rank of Eagle Scout. He soon became a watch enthusiast and I started to think that watch wasn't nice enough for his achievement. Over the next year I allowed him to buy 3 watches on his own, when I should have made him save that money for a car. I still didn't think the Citizen was "special" enough for his achievement, so I bought him the Seamaster Pro mid-size in 2014, and he gave me a Citizen 300M diver he'd bought in return. Then he started to think the mid-size was too small, and I wanted him to be "totally in love" with the watch I'd given him. He was totally enamored by my Submariner and Planet Ocean which I liked too much to give up just yet. When I found a NIB NOS 6-yr old Planet Ocean with warranty, I got it and traded it for his SMP mid-size and a few of his lesser watches. So, now he's just got the PO, the original Citizen gift, and two Luminox that he's bought on his own. I ended up with his SMP mid-size, PVD Dive Master 500, and 300M Citizen diver. I do want to sell the Seamaster Pro mid to help recoup some of the cost of the Planet Ocean, but I'm keeping his 2 lesser watches which may become gifts back to him or my brother over the next couple of years. Individually they wont bring a lot of money anyway, while the SMP is worth at least $1600 or more after the recent service last fall.

Do you guys think it would be bad to give an 18 year old a 1983 Submariner for high school graduation? He already has a 6 year old Omega Planet Ocean (and a pair of Luminox blackouts and a pair of Citizen eco-drives).
-
Yep, it was me. I really didn't need to do this trade since I have the new 42mm Explorer II as well, with good lume for using at night. The 40mm version is a little more stealthy and sophisticated looking to me, but the weak lume on my old model was ruining the experience for me. I had to put the old watch about 4" from my good eye to read the time in a dark room. I'd have preferred an M or V or G serial from 2008 or newer with the 3186 movement, but no trades were out there lately. I'll likely be keeping my pair of Explorer II and my coke GMT II, but in a few years give my Submariner to my son - perhaps for college graduation.

Well, Rick at Pieces of Time is taking my 1993 tritium lumed Explorer II 16570 in as partial trade for a 2005 Exp II with Superluminova dial and hands on the newer bracelet (my current bracelet is the same as my 1983 Sub). The cost to upgrade the watch is about $400-500 more than sending it to Rolex for a COA + new hands and dial, but I end up with a 10 year old watch instead of a 22 year old watch that's not all original (if I did the service dial and hands it wouldn't be original). He'll receive my watch tomorrow by noon and then ship the newer watch overnight for Saturday delivery if he's happy with mine (looks minty).

Damb. I'll be old and dead while you're still enjoying your Rolex. Sucks to be old.
-
See a chiropractor or DO too, for an adjustment. Get well soon.
-
Heh heh, so true. I didn't get my first Rolex until 1987, but it was 20 years old and was my grandfather's.
-
Beware, the $50 Rolex I bought there in 1986 turned out to be a fake.

The sport band is the hardest one to put on, when I went to Apple Store for my appointment to test drive the watch. The milanese loops is disappointingly grey and dull looking, like a finer version of screen door mesh, not like a shark mesh (or JB Champion mesh for Moonwatch). EDIT - I had accidentally ordered an extra sport band for stainless when the watch already had a sport band. When I changed it to the classic buckle leather strap (right after I posted at 1:30AM) the delivery date for that one was 4/24 - 5/8. So it will get here 2-4 weeks faster than my space grey sport model.
-
Seems people are posting on forums that they indeed did start seeing ship dates slip past 4/24 as early 3-5 minutes into the Apple Store opening back up for online sales. Within 10 minutes everyone was seeing 4-6 week ship estimate.
-
Ordered a stainless and a black aluminum sport model. Kept refreshing the Apple website until the store became live, and completed the purchase within 3 minutes, and the ship date is still 4-6 weeks out. How did they sell out the first batch in 3 minutes? Wow.
-
I like it - it has similar features to my Hamilton Harrison Ford Conservation Chronograph (valjoux 7750 based).

Happy Birthday, better late than never!

Happy birthday! Posted this on Facebook yesterday, sorry I'm late here.

Very nice lume shots. Let me know if you want to arrange a sale (or trade) so I can give Ben a 1998 birth-year watch for graduation!! [EDIT - somehow I got a weird smiley at the end that I had to remove]
-
http://ialreadyhaveawatch.com/watch-articles/omega/omega-serial-numbers-by-year/ 1995 was when Goldeneye Bond quartz watch came out, and in 1997 Jame's traded quartz for autowind for Tomorrow Never Dies. But I think they kept selling quartz well past that time. If it's a 1998 I'd love to buy it for my son for his birth year watch.

Moar lume shots taken recently... The iPhone had a hard time showing the green hand and bezel dot vs the blue hour hand and hour markers on my Ti Planet Ocean. The Ti Seamaster Pro lume isn't as bright, but still glows nicely with dim ambient light in the room. Edit - Add one more of the Ti Planet Ocean showing the two color lume...

I grew up with 33-36mm watches, so 36-38mm isn't too bad these days. But anything over 42mm drives me nuts unless it's a sporty watch with rotating or numbered bezel. The other day I tried on the 41mm Aqua Terra and the 38.5mm version, and the big dial and slim bezel made the 41mm look silly huge, while the 38.5mm looks perfect. I've also got a shot of my 35mm 1962 Omega Seamaster DeVille. (Half the pictures in my photo stream show up sideways on my new iPad, weird).

You wanna buy a recently serviced Seamaster Pro 300M midsize 2252.50 for a good price, with 1.5 years of the 2-yr warranty left?
