Try installing soundsource from rogueamoeba on 10.6 and see if that works. They say 2.5 works: Rogue Amoeba | Freebies: Free software for Mac OS X -
You shouldn't have hurt it - the power supply wanted you to feed it 230V and you only gave it 115v, so it was underpowered is all.

I know it sucks when a new toy shows up and doesn't work right. I hope the amp gets it's shit together quickly.

I often get errors or silent quits with Max and 24/06 FLAC files when converting to ALAC. It just had an update so I'll have to see if that is fixed. [EDIT - Okay Max 0.9.1 is fixed!]

I see what you did there. Clever.

I make a separate smart playlist for a 320K MP3 album and the ALAC version of the same album, and put the initials ALAC in the name of the lossless playlist. Since I listen to all my music by playlist and not the main list it's a solution for me. But, I see it's a problem if you have the main library list open and type in a album name where both pop up for you; and you also see them as one album in the grid/coverflow album cover view instead as two - you may not have an easy solution. What if you selected the lossless version in the list view, chose "get info", and then change the info to show the lossless version as "CD 2 of 2", then set the 320K version as "CD 1 of 2" ? I will go try that and see if they show up as separate CDs. [EDIT - nope, CD 1/2 and CD 2/2 still show up under the same icon in grid view.] [EDIT 2 - Okay, if I go in and change the composer to "Valerie Joyce 320" for one copy of the album, and "Valerie Joyce ALAC" for my 24/96 version, I can sort the grid by "composer" and both show up as separate albums, but when sorted as album or as artist they both show up under one album cover as they should. You could even use the album name in the composer field instead of the artist name. Like "New York Blue 320" and "New York Blue ALAC". Some one else suggested using genre to sort them, and you could have "Jazz 320" and "Jazz ALAC" as separate Genre, but that wont let you sort by albums like sorting the grid by "Composer" Allows.

Asr already has an SR-X Mk3 to act as host, if he decides to go pro bias...

I went with three Jamo in wall 2-way speakers in the front (sounded better than the 3-ways but there were several pair of 2-ways to choose from and these were the best 2-ways), and a couple of flat'ish Jamo 2-way boxes on the wall for the sides (where support beams wouldn't allow an in-wall). Sounds better than my Velodyne "Deco" 2-way satellites that I upgraded from (although I still use the Velodyne sub with the Jamo).

Welcome! I think from the information you gave about your tastes that it rules out the Westone 3. I have tried the UM3X and they might be a good choice for you and your budget. They are very clear and detailed, transparent with forward mids for rock, without a lack of bass (or too much) and without sibilance. I've only heard them with UM56 tips and Complys tips, and I liked them less with the Complys which helped roll off the highs slightly. I suspect silicone tips would be better but you'd have to buy those separately. I also like the demo universal version of the UE4Pro customs at CanJam, and felt they were similar to the UM3X with my UM56 custom tips that I also listened to at CanJam. The UE4Pro are $399 plus the cost of the impressions. I missed hearing the JH5Pro demo units. I've been impressed with my JH13Pro but that may or may not extrapolate to the JH5Pro. The only Sleek I tried was the SA6, which didn't move me. The Livewires are not bad and I liked them more than most universal IEM (especially SE530), except the W3/UM56 were slightly ahead of the LW for being more immersive and powerful. The LW are not be as smooth and refined as my better customs, but they have a nice Grado RS-1-like sound. I have not been able to compare them directly to the UM3X, sorry, but the LW sound signature is probably closer to the UM3X than the W3. If it were me with your budget I would still try to shoot for the UE4Pro or JH5Pro and forget about universal IEM. [EDIT] I just saw Chekhonte's post that came in while I was typing what I think is a helpful response, and I don't see where the OP did anything wrong in his post.

I'm an idiot - I should read the whole thread before I post - sorry guys.

Wasn't there a "how to" write-up online that detailed how to access the internal connecter (like a coiled spring) and tune it up to grab hold of the cable's prongs better? I'll try to find it and link to here. OKAY, here it is: 580_intermittency_repairs Photo Gallery by jeepy206 at pbase.com http://www.pbase.com/jeepy206/580_intermittency_repairs

Happy Birthday too!

Mine never squealed - bought from Spritzer and sold to Blutarsky, but as far as I know they still don't squeal.

Anyone know anything about reel to reel?
HeadphoneAddict replied to Duggeh's topic in Home Source Components
You can listen to the reel with a stopwatch or timer, and stop it every 5 minutes to mark the tape level/thickness on the reel with a marker pen. Then when you go back to listen again another time you can fast forward to approximate locations in time on the reel. I miss my old Akai R2R and Harmon Kardon turntable. I grew up with reel to reel and LP's and didn't even give up my turntable until 1991 when I moved to colorado, 7 years after my first CD player. [EDIT] - well I see some clever people have beat me to suggestions about keeping track of the time. I hope you can still fix it though. -
My SR-5 gold edition have more treble than the SR-3 that I had which DO fit your description to a "t". I've had two pairs of gold edition, ones with the cloth cable and the ribbon cable version I have now, and both have more treble than an O2 Mk1. I'd say the Gold's treble is similar to the SR-5 that I had (but with much better bass), and mine probably have as much treble as my Lambdas. The amount maybe falls between that of my Lambdas and my old Lambda Signature. My Smegma Pro are my brightest Stax right now, and I think at least as bright as my Signatures were, while before the Smeggy mods it sounded closer being a pro bias SR-3 and midrange centric. Maybe some of the difference we hear are due to amps and sources, or tubes, etc.
-
The Lambda Sig also sounded good with the SRM-T1 but was a little brighter with the SRM-1 Mk2 Pro but useable - and with Elephas's ES-1 at the 2008 CO meet the Lambda Sig sounded better than the O2 Mk1 (mikhail couldn't fidn the right tubes to make the O2 sound good, I posted that last summer in the meet impressions). I haven't heard them on a KGBH SE though, and I don't think I recall hearing them on a regular KGBH either. The Sigs do sound different than the SR-404 limited in that the SR-404 lower midrange and mid-midrange seemed more forward than the other lambdas. The SR-404 mids were more like an O2 Mk2 mids after the ear pad spring mod, in a sense covering up the upper mids etch when combined with the GES. Compared to the SR-Lambda the Signature had more highs, and more bass presence as well, without having the mids too sucked out like the Pro's. HE60 might be another one to consider as well. You can hear mine at RMAF in a month.

Plaidplatypus brought an SR-404 Limited to the Colorado meet and I have to say it is now my favorite Lambda out of them all. And they have more treble than the O2 Mk1 without over-doing it (at least with my GES). The Lambda Signature that I used to own were a little more tizzy in the treble than the Limited, while the Pros were not so tizzy but had a midrange suckout - I had sold both of them in favor of my ESP-950 with Stax cable. The Limited however sounded closer to my SR-Lambda normal bias which I now put as my second favorite Lambda. I told plaidplatypus that I'd take them off his hands if he gets tired of them. My Smegma Pro are also fairly bright, so you could try to get a Gamma Pro or SR-X Pro and see if Smeggy will refit the drivers into a nicer wood cup with some O2 earpads for you. They now sound better than the stock Gamma pro which were a little more dull sounding than even your SR-X Mk3 normal bias. You could also consider an SR-5 gold edition which are kinda like your SR-X but with a better soundstage. [EDIT] - Asr, I was typing when you posted - can you pinpoint what you didn't like about the 404 Limited?

It's more difficult to imagine the sound coming from outside of my head than with other phones when using these. I like their frequency response, bass punch and dynamics, but I don't tend to grab them for an enjoyable listen because it seems like something is missing. I sat here with them on my ears playing Eva Cassidy "Live at Blues Alley", and I can't say whether it is the lack of out of head experience, or the fact that I find it hard to put the instruments and singer in their own spot - they all seems squished together. I just can't get into that. Lord only knows why it's better with my Custom IEMs or other phones. Yeah.

Compared to the HD600 or even the D2000 that was being discussed, the HD25-1 have the soundstage of a Grado. I have a pair right here.
