Also try a volume attenuator for the IEM, as it cuts much of the hiss with only a slight impact on the sound.

I think Blutarsky is selling his HD600 for a good price. I told him I'd loan him a nice 4-pin XLR cable for his ZDT and he'd change his mind real fast (he also should get new pads).

YES. Get a pair and add an HD650 cable to it.

So, if we want to do a Hackintosh with our 10.6.0 DVD later, but can't do it until after 10.6.2 is out, how do we get to 10.6.1? I was planning to do this someday, but I can't rush out and do it before 10.6.2 hits the wild. -
I do hope you try the "bass reducer" EQ with the iPod. I think you will be surprised.
-
I'm stumped by your reluctance to do a couple of simple changes like raising them more and adding some sound absorbing materials to the inside of the "reverberant desk cave" where they reside. The "Bass Reducer" EQ on the iPod also works well with the A2 (and I mentioned a couple of other EQ that help the bass too). Don't give up so easily.

OMG, I LOL and almost woke my wife up.

That would be the "Bass Reducer". Most of the time any EQ on the iPod causes clipping or distortion for me when listening with the headphone jack. But tonight the three EQ above out of the iMod/LOD did not do that, even though they add to the mids and reduce the bass. I thought it was strange.

The Apogee Duet only had mild hiss with the ES3X with the volume down. Since the JH13Pro have less hiss than the ES3X, hopefully the One will work just as well or better. I was thinking about getting One to add to my DAC/amp review. And I'm hoping to get a review sample of the CEntrance DACport which is a 24/96 USB DAC/amp that sounded as good with my Grado RS-1 as the Duet did when using 24/96 native music. I liked it enough to loan them my RS-1 for two days at RMAF so people could appreciate it better. They license the 24/96 USB technology to others like Benchmark, and it was expected to sell for about $300 when I talked with the guy at RMAF. I don't know why it never occured to me to try my ES3X or JH13Pro with it.

I tried using the EQ on my iMod today with an ALO cryo silver x iMod LOD > A2. I find that the "Bass Reducer" EQ actually did not suck. The other two working EQ options are the "Spoken Word" EQ setting, and lastly the "Lounge" EQ setting, which feels like it has less treble than the first two. I think you should give these three EQ settings a try, and elevate the A2 another 6" so that they are midway between the desk and the shelf above them. You could also try some sound absorbing material on the desktop under the A2, and maybe under the shelf above them as well. The AMP3 did not have as much bass bloom as the Macbook > Headstage USB DAC cable, but it was about the same as the iPod with no EQ, so that is not the solution. (which I know you weren't considering, but I did say I would try it). I'm back to using the iBasso D10 DAC line-out into the A2, because the tonal balance is better than the Headstage. This made me think that maybe you could use a bright-ish sounding amp with the iPod and feed that into the A2, thus the amp's sound signature being the EQ. Good Luck!

That's a freakin big screen! I'm so used to my 15" Macbook Pro or 20" iMac so it could make yours look huge, but you must have a 30" screen or something. -
I definitely want to hook up my ipod tomorrow and try various EQ settings, and see how that compares to EQ in iTunes. I can use my LOD>RCA cable from iMod and use my USB DAC > mini for the Macbook, and switch between them with the same music.

That will boost the bass, for cases when you have an iPod feeding an amp with small speakers that don't have enough. I believe the iPod and iTunes EQ are similar changes. Most of the EQ boost the bass. However, the "Lounge" cuts bass, boosts mids, leaves upper mids alone and boosts the 8K treble but not 16K. The "Pop" EQ boosts the mids between 250-2000Hz but not the bass or treble (which at the extremes is maybe -3dB). "Spoken Word" boosts the mids and upper mids without cutting any treble like Pop did, but it still cuts the deep bass a little. "Treble Boost" setting is flat in the bass, slightly up at 2K and 6dB up by 16K. I didn't get to try various EQ or the AMP3 because I got busy and everyone is now asleep. Try some iPod EQ settings and let us know what you find. I liked the A5 more, but the cost and size ruled them out for me. My A2 still have the bass bloom after 70-80 hours of music, but it is slightly better as is the treble. I did not intentionally run them to break them in, since I wasn't reviewing them and there was no rush. I can enjoy them without the SRS iWOW in iTunes, but I really like the way the SRS makes these speakers that are 2 feet apart and 2 feet away disappear more easily, and presents a soundstage that extends beyond the speakers. I don't like SRS iWOW as much with headphones, but it does have some crossfeed for when I listen to Dave Brubeck or Bill Evans or other older recordings. Moot point since SRS iWOW is not on her iPod. Getting the A2 off the desk really makes a difference for me, and if I wasn't using a rolling cart for laptop/speakers in the middle of the room I would try standing mine on pedestals, above and away from the desk, wall or shelf where bass reflections could be amplified. I had my daughter hold them up off the desktop for me and it sounded a bit better. Someone here posted a link to some $30/pr pedestals on Amazon a while back. So, Boomana could consider something like that.

When I run parallels with win XP then either the Mac side or PC side gets too slow if I don't close safari browser and mail. Running iTunes with those is even worse. -
Maybe EQ or different source is cheaper? I'm gonna try my A2 with the AMP3 and see if it's tonal balance works better with the speakers than iTunes with iWOW or iPod.

The new iMac can't be hotter than my ZDT. I do wonder if my late Jan 09 Macbook Pro can take more than 4Gb which is what I have in it now. -
I've been using SRS iWOW for Mac iTunes since the beginning, which helps with the frequency response in the A2 noticeably. It fixes the highs and the mid-bass bloom, and puts some real depth into the music (outside of the speakers even).

You want air to not only flow through the holes but across the board and components inside.

Which is most accurate? Which one looks best?

All but #2 seem to be slanted towards the reds, and #2 is slanted towards the blue. #2 makes me think of those natural daylight light-bulbs. With the shadows it seems to be closer to the start or the end of the day. #2 makes me think of it being earlier in the day, and #1 makes me think of later in the day but I feel like #1 is more accurate than the others. -
I'm hunting smurfs for halloween. I might show up at a party this weekend with one on a leash...

Yah, I remember having to do punch cards for the computer at Texas A&M in the early 80's, and my mom's real job when I was growing up was as a key punch operator for Shell Oil.
