  1. Neko also sells their own cable to connect the DAC to an SE amp. I actually bought a pair a while back, just in case I might need them someday.
  2. He actually suggested 5-6 watts at 60 ohms, which might mean an amp that does about 50 watts @ 8 ohms. There was a big leap in performance moving from my 8-watt ZDT to my 55-watt Yamaha home theater receiver, and I did not need to get close to maxing out my receiver. If I listened to my Polk SDA speakers at -25 on the volume control, the HE-6 performed as well at similar volume levels with the same volume control settings (albeit 12 feet away for speakers and inches away for headphones). With the ZDT normal listening levels were achieved with the volume knob at 3 o'clock and I could listen at max 5 o'clock without distortion; but it sounded softer, less dynamic and less transparent than when using the cheaper but higher power receiver to drive them. They just didn't seem to do so well on a high-end low-power transformer coupled tube amp. The next prototype is already more efficient, and hopefully the final version will be noticeably easier to drive. On a similar note, I found that most 8-12 watt speaker amps were still insufficient for the K1000 as well.
  3. Just to be clear, you want to keep your music and movies on your computer and stream them to the touch to watch or listen? I use StreamToMe from the app store, and it has a companion server program for the computer, that allows me to watch my ripped DVD movies or listen to my non-DRM music via streaming over Wifi. If I am not home, but have Wifi and know my external IP address for home, then I can access my music and movies while I'm away too. This is when I'll pull out the jailbroken iPad with MyWi tethering, or my Verizon MiFi. Strangely, with a jailbroken iPhone and My3G app installed, StreamToMe is not fooled into thinking I am using WiFi when I'm not. Yet I can do things like Facetime just fine over 3G. Also, to avoid memorizing my external IP address, I got a domain name from No-IP - Dynamic DNS, Static DNS for Your Dynamic IP and my computer updates no-ip regularly with my external IP, so if I go to my domain and open port I can get into my home computer's servers. It's like $19.95/year and worth it. I also use DotTunes on my iMac which sets up a server on my iMac that let's me stream my whole iTunes library music via Wifi or 3G to any browser equipped device like my iPhone, iPad, Mac or PS3. This only works for music, and you listen to the music via the server's web app using Safari for iPhone/Touch. It doesn't do movies like StreamToMe, but it does work over 3G as long as you can get into your home computer via IP and port from the outside. And, I have TwonkyServer which allows me to stream music to my iPhone for listening through the PS Audio TagNPlay app via Wifi (or via 3G using my external IP address). However, with a computer you can watch movies by streaming from TwonkyServer via a browser interface. The iPhone browser doesn't work with it yet, so movies aren't available for streaming.
  4. Sure would love to see you there. Hope it all works out.
  5. I decided not to unpack my main headphone rig after the Colorado meet, so I'm still mostly all packed up and ready to bring my gear to RMAF. Even without the PWD, ZDT and WES I'm enjoying all my music. I could sell all that stuff and buy one of my kids a year of college at CSU instead. If I narrowed my preferences down to only one flagship headphone I could almost get a second year squeezed in. Hmmm...
  6. Thanks! I will check that out. Another ploy by Apple to sell more computers? If we didn't have an iMac that stays on all the time with iTunes and TwonkyServer running, I'd be looking for a Mac mini instead of the new Apple TV. I was ready for it to have a small amount of storage like an iPhone or Touch, but no storage at all surprised me. It's like a glorified Airport Express for video instead of just audio, but without the router or print server functions.
  7. I wish they could have added a USB 2.0 port to connect a hard drive or optical drive. I like that you can add Netflix to a non-networked TV with this, but Roku has had that for a while. And I don't appreciate them removing the component video and analog audio output. I just discovered that I can't use the new device in my family room. I'm still using a 42" Sony rear-projection HDTV with a DVI port and several component inputs from 2004. I don't have an available optical input on my 2004 vintage Denon HTR either (using the 2 digital inputs for DVD and cable TV). http://www.usa.denon.com/avr1804_productsheet.pdf At least they offer a cheap way to transport audio and video to your TV and stereo system from your iTunes library, where the Airport Express only does audio.
  8. Not as easy as I would like. I have about 100 ripped DVD movies in my library, and I cannot set them as rated-R, or PG-13, etc... Same with other small videos that I found online that may be NSFW. And there are a couple of rated R iTunes movie downloads they can watch, but the rest are off limits. So, how do you set or change ratings on these movies? I also have a couple of music albums labeled as "explicit" which really aren't bad, and blocking "explicit" prevents them from playing any of those songs. This is a little easier to solve because I know I could burn the songs to CD and re-import them, which is a pain. What I might do is move my 160Gb ATV from my bedroom, to put in the family room where the 30Gb ATV died last month. Then I could buy the new iTV for my bedroom where they don't watch TV.
  9. I got the Nook cover with light, and really appreciate the light for when the room is not bright. As I get older I don't do as well reading in dim light.
  10. I posted in my A-10 impressions that I didn't like it with the HE60 or O2 Mk2. But it did sound good to me with the O2 Mk1 or HE90 and even Jade. But with the HE60 I thought it sounded bright and harsher (with my HE60 or Ray's) than I like. (note - the O2 Mk2 were too forward in the mids with it).
  11. In an upcoming update, being able to stream movies and shows or music from an iPhone, iPad or Touch will be nice. I hate that it looks like I'll have to go to iOS 4.1 or 4.2 to get that, and lose my jailbreak. The thing I like about the current Apple TV is that I can pick and choose what content the kids have access to with it, by only transferring those programs over to it's internal hard drive. Before I order one I need to know how to control which videos are available on the iTV, so that only some TV Shows and Movies in the library are available to viewers. I don't want to be limited only to parental controls based on MPAA or TV ratings, because not all of our videos are rated. I also feel that it should have had some internal storage, even 16Gb of flash memory, or at least a way to plug in an external hard drive to expand it. That's not a deal breaker, since I leave the iMac with iTunes library running all the time, but it would definitely be appreciated.
  12. I had to do a refit with Livewires (2x), SE530 customs, Freq Show, UE11Pro and JH13Pro (2x). My Westone UM56, ES3X, and ES5 each fit perfectly the first time around.
  13. That is pretty awesome looking. You are an artist.
  14. UPS allowed me to pick up my WES on a Saturday, instead of waiting till Monday. I don't know if that was an exception to the rule or not.
  15. My breathing is more like the Dell!
  16. I have two older Extremes, one running 2.4Hgz 802.11b/g for older gear, and one at 5Ghz 801.11n for all the Macs, Apple TV and Airport Extremes. I love the Airport Extreme's long range. I have both in our loft in the center of the second floor, and I still have good coverage at both ends of the basement (Home Theater at one end of basement with PS3 and Wii online, and the main headphone rig at the other end of basement with Airport Express > PWD).
  17. Just installed a new 500Gb 7200 rpm SATA HD upgrade for our Late 2006/Early 2007 iMac 2Ghz Core 2 Duo. It already seems faster.
  18. I kept checking to see if my Kindle pre-order was available for download, till about 1am and gave up. At 1:22AM it became available, go figure.
  19. Wierd, I found a route through the middle right away, didn't need to think about the borders. Everyone's brain thinks differently.
  20. Maybe you could fly in late Friday and still be there for Saturday and Sunday? I wont be getting in till friday PM myself.
  21. The Beta blog is not inaccessible to me. But I have an account and am logged into the blog when I read it. The last update was today.
  22. I think it's strange that I was the only one who knew what you meant to type.

  25. Any thoughts about the iPhone photos I posted the other day? I was wondering what you guys thought about the composition or framing, despite the sucky camera. The photos are unedited, and I might try to buy an app that could enhance them a bit.
