  1. I thought it sounded good, but I was not as impressed with it as others. I felt it was much better than the prototype hybrid amp, but it seemed to lack in transparency to me. I'd likely pick my Woo WA6 over the Rethm amp. However, I was very impressed with the Rethm speakers upstairs, as were a few others.
  2. A quick wallet check was not favorable. Hoping to win the Zu as my next option. My son has already taken the A5 from me...
  3. I'll have to work harder to make the "cool" list someday.
  4. I thought this video was kinda cool:
  5. No, they didn't have the new version ready yet. I wanted to hear that too.
  6. It's been a lot of fun so far, and lots of good headphones, food and company. I'd really like to spend the last day visiting the speaker rooms, but don't have a clue where to start. It's too overwhelming.
  7. Well, I listened to the JH16Pro demos at RMAF and was relieved to hear that they didn't suck like I feared they might due to too much bass - the balance was good.
  8. My wife is going to MN for 4 days on Sunday for business, so I may be having dinner with her Saturday night before she leaves town. It would be nice to join you guys on Friday night, but I was also going to try to spend time with Fang or Jack Wu or both. Too many people to visit with and so little time.
  9. Tyll, I have a room at the Marriott with two double beds, 3rd floor overlooking the courtyard near the headphone room. I can put my 12 yr old son in bed with me Saturday night to make room for you. He likely wants to try out his new boy scout camping cot, so I can put him on that instead. I'll PM you my iPhone and email information. We'll arrive about 4PM Friday, and checkout is 12 noon Sunday although we'll stay until it's over.
  10. Shoot, I wish I had known that 3 weeks ago. I usually get applecare before the original warranty is up (not for Nano's, etc), but never heard about the losing the phone support if you delay buying. I have avoided thousands in repair costs by having the applecare warranty on higher cost items like iMac and Macbooks.
  11. LaCie NetworkSpace MAX 2Tb NAS to go with my Perfectwave DAC's Bridge
  12. That looks like the old Pioneer DSS-9 that I owned back in the late 70's - very cool.
  13. Does anyone else wish that the JH13Pro mids were a little fuller and the bass was a little tamer? I have to be more selective lately about what I drive the JH13Pro with in order to enjoy them to the fullest, which is more noticeable ever since I got the Westone ES5. They're great, but I think the sound needs to be tweaked just a little bit. I'm really feeling like this low bass hump on the 13's has too much of that "omnidirectional subwoofer thump", which for example distracts me from the pluck and note of an acoustic string bass. It almost makes it sound like someone is amping the string bass, instead of just recording it with a microphone. The thump doesn't seem to be coming from the instrument itself, but from somewhere else. My iPhone 4 headphone out seems to roll off below 25-30Hz and this bass hump helps a little with that, but it's still somewhat intrusive. Of course I'll take this any day over the boosted mid-bass hump of my UE11Pro. I'm still surprised that some people feel the need to have a JH16Pro with extra bass. The 13's mids are very nice, but sometimes I feel like grabbing my most forward sounding amps to richen up and liven up the vocals through the 13's. While the ES3X sounds pretty forward and "on stage", the ES5 sounds just right at "1st row", while the JH13Pro seem more like 5th - 10th row (like the UE11Pro). It's not really recessed like a "mid-hall" Denon full-size phone (or Darth Beyer, or Proline 2500), but I'm just starting to feel like something is missing there with some of my music (depending on the amp). Despite the mids, I have preferred the JH13Pro over my ES3X because of the much bigger and improved soundstage or sense of a larger space, and I wouldn't want to see that go. But somehow the ES5 still offer this spacious sound without pulling back the mids too much. The mids are less of an issue than the bass for me, so it's just a mild concern. Normally I would just say the 13's are a little laid back sounding like my O2 Mk1 (which I like better on a more forward sounding amp as well). I really only like to use my Pico Slim amp when I am out and about, and not my other "fat" amps which are too big for a pants pocket, but the JH13Pro don't sound as good with my Slim as my ES3X and ES5 do because the bass is bumped up even more through it. Everything sounds much better if I drive them with my maxed Woo WA6, but that isn't very portable at all. So, I'm curious what you guys think about this, and what sources or amps do you like best with the 13's? And do you have other high end customs to compare your 13's to?
  14. The very first Senior Moment... And that's what happened to the dinosaurs!
  15. Hey. I'm looking forward to seeing you guys next week. Last year I had dinner with Ray + Ted of Cable Pro one night, then with Ray, Fang and Jack Wu and their families the second night. I'm sorry I didn't get to hang out with you guys more and get to know you better. My son (HeadFanatic) will be with me, but the mythical Blutarsky will not make it for overnight stay because of his travel schedule. He might stop in Saturday to say hi before he flies out on Sunday, but he doesn't believe that he can stay. Therefore, if someone is needy for a room with a bed at the Marriott, I could share a bed with my son and free up the other bed for you if you split the room cost. The floor or bathtub however is free. I'm told that I have the exact same room for Friday and Saturday that I had last year, on the 3rd floor overlooking the courtyard near to the headphone room, and it had 2 double beds. (just checked and my reservation says I am guaranteed 2 doubles)
  16. Very strange:
  17. I have a question for those of you with the newer Apple TV. Is there a way to select and limit which movies, TV shows or playlists are available for streaming from your computer? I like my old Apple TV which lets me select just the few movies, TV shows and music playlists that I want to play often, so that the list to choose from is much shorter and easier to maneuver through. But, I'd like to have the new features like Netflix, TV Rentals and AirPlay video playback. I tried streaming everything with the old ATV and it was way too cumbersome with a huge 900Gb library, as there is just too much data to scroll through. With over 600 short and full length Movies in iTunes, I only want to have about 50-80 of my favorite movies available on the ATV. Likewise I have over 600 playlists and 1500 albums in my Library, many of which are incomplete albums because the kids have me only buy 1-2 of their favorite songs per album (and I don't want to even see most of their music).
  18. I would think Smeggy would encourage people to use his design, as long as they don't profit from it or try to pass it off as his own work.
  19. I still have a NeXT T-Shirt from 1988 that I got at a show where Steve Jobs came to demonstrate his new computers in Houston. I've never worn it, but simply saved it as a souvenir.
  20. That was an interesting book, I am going to read Spin Control next (sequel) when I'm done with Peter F Hamilton The Evolutionary Void.
  21. APC's software for OSX does seem to do the job in shutting things down. I never tried to see what it does once power is restored. It uses a cable with USB on one end for Mac, and the other end looks like a phone plug or Ethernet plug for the APC.
  22. I'm still on 9.2.1 and the new remote worked last time I checked.
  23. Yep, with greater than 300 pixel/inch I look hard and just cannot see any pixels - not even with a 2x magnifying lens. Amazing.
