Larry, I have no scientific evidence of any of those really working on the long haul, however hypnosis might help to get you going by better controlling your pain. You're a lucky man, you're alive, your daughter is too, and you should be able to enjoy life completely.
I've been told, but I haven't compared them myself, that the W5000X has a more present and bodyful bass than the old 5000. I never liked the late. The W3000 are quite decent, they have a response more towards the V shape than neutral, but fun to listen to. Not the best isolating headphones I know though.
We've attended this evening the concert by Joshua Bell playing with the National Orchestra of Spain (ONE) conducted by Dima Slobodeniouk. The program included a "Meditation" by Tchaikovsky and Glazunov's violin concerto. Bell isn't one of my favourite violinists but I was very interested in listening live to his Stradivarius which has a funny story behind: http://www.joshuabell.com/story-his-violinThat instrument sounds truly amazing, we got 6th row seats to be able to hear it cleanly. The tone of the treble notes is so smooth and clear, yet loud and forceful. It's been a delight attending this concert.
