General software advice for Windows
Torpedo replied to shellylh's topic in GoRedwings19's Computer Help Hotline
I used Kaspersky many years (like twelve or more) ago and always performed well, however it missed a pretty nasty worm which caused lots of trouble. It was Avast the one finding and cleaning it, so I started using it, first the free version then the paid one. It was my only antivirus until I moved onto OSX. Now I'm using none. -
Good luck, Jacob. You'll do great

Thank you buddies!!!! It's been a very nice day, I took it off from work so I've been able not to get up too early, which I hate, and have had a day long of celebrations with the wife and family. Tremendous meal was had. Lots of friends calling too, so most of the evening on the phone. It's awesome having so many people wishing well to one after all these years

Sell those 507 and get a wonderful pair of 207. Then sell the 727 and get a 252. It will sound way better. More expensive doesn't mean better most of the times.

Even somebody with the means to get it after "some time"...

I kept the subscription for a couple of years, maybe three, but now it's been expired for more than two and I'm not really missing it

Nope, I haven't been to Cat Power. I think Melody has some sight issues, she's always wearing sunglasses, as a sequela from her accident. It's possible she just waited for it to be mostly dark. Here at 10:00pm it's pretty clear yet, and the show was supposed to start at 9:30. She even spoke a few phrases of decent Spanish

The wife and I went to Melody Gardot this evening. She started more than half an hour late, and to be honest, a bit cold, at times I had the feeling she was doing playback. But by the third tune the show warmed up and we've had a lot of fun. She's a show-woman well worth attending live, her band is great too.

I'm sorry, Steve. My condolences.

I'm not sure I'm catching your drift... if any

I wouldn't die to get my money back.

RIP Mr Doctorow. I'm just starting to get acquainted with his work.
-
IMHO not worth it, Dusty. Too many flaws. Even at 500 they'd be expensive
-
Best wishes, Jacob. I'm sure you'll nail it

Getting a good socarrat (or socarradet) is an art in itself. Hardcore paella purists don't mix seafood with land animals, but it's true that some paella styles, considering this is a "poor people" dish created to use easily available (for the zone) components, and leftovers, mix them. A seafood paella can include mussels, clams, shrimp, prawn, cuttlefish or squid, even octopus, lobster, crayfish (or a variant of it which serves just to provide taste but it's not really eatable). For color you use always saffron. Some other fishes, their heads and scrapes (monkfish is a personal favourite for this) are used to make the broth that we'll use to boil the whole thing once the seafood is sauté with the onion, garlic and other vegetables and you add the rice. The "land" paella uses basically rabbit or hare, lamb, pork or chicken. Then the broth to boil is made from hen and some bone you have around (jamón is particularly tasty). I couldn't make a really good paella even if my life depended on it, nor my wife, but I know where we can eat a really good one

Nice watch on your wrist. Congratulations, I wish the seller pays for the "cosmetic treatment".

Yup, as in vicepresident. Latin roots may be confusing at times

The Knuckledragger 3rd Memorial Slow Forum Post
Torpedo replied to Knuckledragger's topic in Off Topic
I think the most difficult part of doing that must be keeping the body straight and not moving the head at all. I still wouldn't be surprised if at some point they disclosed that they use skates. -
When my dad died and my mother let's say wasn't available, they were my father's best friends and took some care of myself. Kind of I adopted them as parents

I haven't watched The Imitation Game, sorry. I'll see if it's available on my streaming service and will come back with the results.

My disparaging is not in support of Brett, it's just that I can't stand Cumberbatch's acting (in)capabilities. Probably more my fault than his. Excuse me if my previous post was too harsh on him, I would edit it if sounds offensive.

My vice-parents gave me a gold, automatic, center seconds and date Maurice Lacroix in 1990, for finishing school and passing the public examinations to become a specialist. I've used it a lot, on a daily basis for five years when I received it, then from time to time. Wife used it for a whole year like two years ago, it's a small watch like 32mm or so, specially for modern standards. I've replaced its lizard strap like three times, so you get the idea of the use it's received. Last week has been the first time I took it for servicing in more than twenty years, because the watch run, but behind for about a minute/day which is far from normal. They say it's mostly OK but that one of the gears is worn out and needs replacement, also the bearing--of the flywheel I guess--. Not bad at all for a "second or third tier" mechanical watch. I agree with Jacob, Maurice Lacroix received a bad consideration for making affordable quartz watches, but their mechanical ones and their design are pretty good. Still some snobs will look at it over the shoulder with disdain.
