Very true, thanks for the reminder, I've seen some of their Lumix small cameras displaying the Leica logo... I'll check them, they might have a model which is the size and versatility of the M8. I love adjusting the camera the old style, without having to run through uncountable menus and submenus. Just choose the ISO then combine speed and diaphragm by rotating two wheels to get the desired depth of field or quickness for moving objects, and decide if you want some over or underexposure. Clean, clear and fast.

I know I know, photography is an expensive and dangerous hobby. Fortunately it didn't catch me deeply enough. I just got a Vivitar zoom and a wide angle for the Pentax, and kept the original lens of the Nikon, which maybe could serve me well if I get a Nikon DSLR. I liked the Pentax more than the Nikon, but I needed it to be compatible with the endoscopy gear in the hospital Now we're not using it anymore, all is digitally recorded now. Thanks for the links. I used to check DCR and following their recommendations I got the Canon Ixus (it had other model name in the US). It's an almost 3 years old model, just 5Mp but serves me quite well. I love the portability thing. To be honest I've become too lazy to go carrying a SLR body and several lenses on my trips, but somehow I miss taking good pictures as I used to do when the Pentax was my main camera -though I still keep it-. That's why I think that I could use a DSLR which is small and light enough. I think the D700 and the EOS 5D are bigger than I'd be happy using on a regular basis, but I'd need to try them in my hands.

thxs mates, the review is very clarifying. I didn't expect such performance from a Leica Maybe some of those problems have been amended in the 8.2 iteration, but I wouldn't be risking such big bucks to discover they haven't. I'll investigate some small body Pentax or Canon if any.

I'm a moderate photography fan. I've had a couple of good reflex cameras for 35mm film, but since digital took over film, my only digital camera is a Canon Ixus 50 which makes OK pics. I've been considering to get a decent or maybe more than that digital camera, but there are so many options... All I know is that I'd like to avoid huge cameras (my favorite one was my Pentax A1) and now with digital LCDs maybe a reflex isn't that necessary. I started to look at some options and then the Leica M8.2 came out as a compact, versatile and probably great quality one, which would allow me to swap objectives. The problem is the price. At about USD6000 just the body and USD1300 a 50mm lens, looks kind of very excessive. So, do you think is there anything in that camera justifying that price? Are there other options which for size, versatility and quality can come close at a way more affordable price point?

I'd look for some of those small leather (or suede) cushions which use at the jewelry and watch shops to display the bracelets and wrist watches closed around. You can have one or two of those sewn to the headband.

The SB is an "almost vintage" Platinum, one of those with a separate 5 1/4" module sporting headphone 1/4" jack output, mic input... it's quite decent and for the limitations in the room and speakers placement, I can't expect much better sound, I mean nothing justifying burning more than a couple hundred bucks in an external DAC. On the other hand for an unknown to me reason, I still feel some interest for NOS DACs. Probably for not liking any of the upsampling DACs I've tried no matter how expensive they are and for some favorable comments from a mate who had for some time an Ack Dack but ended up selling it for the PITA batteries. I think I might like their sound, but I wouldn't like to spend as much as a Scott Nixon costs, specially considering I'd need to get myself a transformer or getting the PS... We'll see, it's just curiosity for NOS DACs sound.

He looks like quite prone to lose his temper, kind of serious and almost angry. More or less like myself when I just get up in the morning

I've spent most of the day with a couple of friends sharing this weird passion for music and audio of us. Wife joined us to eat at a japanese restaurant, then she went downtown for a walk and left us on our own to play with the system. We've listened to some vinyl, also some FM radio, a wonderful live performance by Hilary Hahn of the Paganini 1st violin concerto and also an arrangement of the Goldberg variations for string trio... That TU-X1 tuner is my best source, no doubts. Then we've changed to try some phones... Those CD3000 when paired with a good source and a good amp can sound really well. They were a terrific value for their price. I knew it, but having other people confirming it is kind of reassuring. None of them understands how the hell I'm so interested on headphones having a decent speakers system. I feel deeply misunderstood hahahaha

Thanks for the reply. I asked about it more for sake of curiosity and perhaps listening myself to a "decent" (if that thing is at least decent) NOS dac, than for being myself looking for an upgrade from my current source. If that thing were somewhat interesting, I could use it on my secondary computer based rig. It would probably be a lateral move, maybe with some pros, over the SB soundcard. Who knows, the price is very tempting nonetheless.

At Auriculares.org, the Spanish headphones forum a mate has posted a link to an Ebay shop in Taiwan. They sell a NOS DAC with USB and coax inputs, which doesn't look bad at all and is selling for USD180. I wonder if any of you have tried that unit or has some reliable third party opinions. I'd be glad reading them

Official Head-Case Audio Confessional (post your (audio)sins here)

Father, please forgive me for I have committed one of the worst sins against this Holy House and this headphones hobby. I purchased a Rudistor RPX-100, and also a Ray Samuels SR-71. After a few months I'm still keeping them, and what is worse, I can enjoy their sound -
If you like opera, specially Maria Callas, [ame=http://www.amazon.fr/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000TIO4Z0]this[/ame] is something you cannot miss. Hurry up, I knew it from a post at other Spanish forum and we've been a few ones ordering the set, maybe the supply won't last very long.

Really?? Well, congratulations then.

I have the ESW10 and I'm using the HPP5 hardcase. They fit inside very well, I'm glad I bought them together.

How has your rig changed in 2008? And do you have any plans for 2009?
Torpedo replied to postjack's topic in Miscellaneous
I have no defined rig so far. Have bought some amps and cans, and I'm still waiting for the B22 this year. Still learning how I like my old cans vs the new ones and what amp suits any of them best. The main purchases: - R10 bass heavy - PS-1 - HP-2 - L3000 - Modded D5000 - ESW10 - Klipsch X10 - Gilmore Reference Balanced - Rudistor RPX100 - Beta 22 No plans for 2009 as for now. Maybe once I learn what I think I've got to, and eventually deciding if selling some stuff, I'd try the O2 route, or maybe tube amps for dynamic cans. Perhaps some EAR HP4 or a TTVJ-Millett 307A is something I'd like to try. -
To be honest I don't know either for sure. I know some use chicken embryos to grow the viruses and others mammalian cell steams, but not sure about what they do once they have the viruses in the needed amount. I think they just use some antigens from the virus, however I don't know what's the process used and how sure they're that the final preparation doesn't include some live viable viruses.
-
Indeed, I'm here to tell Dusty, as Deepak said, you can get the disease from the own vaccine if it's not properly made and is based on attenuated live viruses. Obviously it's impossible if the vaccine uses just proteins, parts of the virus or completely dead ones. Also having received the vaccine doesn't necessarily mean your body is capable to make the antibodies needed to make you immune. As a matter of fact I received 4 doses of B-Hepatitis vaccine and I didn't reach minimum antibody levels to consider me protected... I should donate my body to science hahahaha.
-
Yep, however I don't know if that year they were using that type Whatever, be it just coincidence or a bad batch of vaccines, I had my worst flu ever after being vaccinated hahahaha I only felt worse when I had the measles for the second time (I swear, it's true, quite rare but happens and it had to happen to me) at 17, and when after they operated my Achilles tendon for it breaking, it got infected by S. Aureus and it went worse leading to septicemia I've had more painful conditions, but the overall feeling of "just let me die" for a disease, only on those 3 occasions. Flu can be really distressing.

Hahaha, I got the shot, then about 24 hours later fever raised over 40
