If you are intending to game a lot, it is probably worth 1/3rd of your budget. The MSI variant is being delivered Monday for me (hopefully!). It is a difficult price point, but I'd go I5 4690, 16gb (look to upgrade to 32gb when you can) of name brand ddr3, Asrock, Asus, or Gigabyte (or maybe something else, don't know) z97 motherboard, seasonic, evga, or corsair 500+ W PSU, and maybe a fractal case.

Well, current router is draft N and has been acting a bit flaky, and new one is (or will be) AC1750. Which I clearly need, even though the only things which will be on wifi are my tablet, phone, work laptops when not docked, and maybe HTPC if I don't feel like routing a cable 15'. Convenient that the apartment is prewired to have two cat5e ports in each bedroom, two in the living room, and one in the kitchen.

Ended up staying with the apartment with the balcony. Now to start considering speaker options for the living room. It has full concrete slab construction, reasonably high ceiling, and wall to wall carpeting, so I am hopeful that I can get something decent sounding.
