Aw nuts, I'm not so sure I'll be making it out for this one. Just looked at flights and the only airline not charging for 1 checked bag (Frontier), which I would probably need, doesn't have enough flight time options. I hate the other airlines for charging $15 for 1 checked bag...

The 307A was just "reviewed"* in Issue 17 of Tone Audio, which can be downloaded here: http://tonepublications.com/MAGPDF/TA_017.pdf Review on page 135. The reviewer loved it, of course. In the same issue they also reviewed the Lehmann Black Cube Linear. Also in the same issue, some really interesting music reviews. (One of two major reasons I read the mag, the other would be the amazing photography.) * in quotes because Tone Audio's reviews are consistently terribly inadequate

Which CDP would sweet EAR HP4 & GS1000 rig at most
Asr replied to Blackmore's topic in Home Source Components
Practically, I think the best way for you to find a CDP is to audition (if possible) or buy used and sell what you don't like. Audiogon makes it easy to do the latter. You might as well roll a dice to determine your buying decision otherwise. As I've heard the GS1000 a few times (stock and re-cabled with Equinox and ALO), I don't envy your position - pairing equipment with it is going to be complicated. But from here, all I can see is your wallet and the ordeal that's imminent... I have no experience with the models you're looking at, but Audio Aero could be a good choice if the Prima that I previously owned was even a slight indication of the Capitole - it was nicely rich-sounding and had quite the mid-range. -
Well Iron_Dreamer was better able to zoom in without blurring the shot is more of what I meant. And two selections from today's sunset. Couldn't decide which I liked better so here's both:

I am most likely in. Will know for sure within the next couple weeks. 2008 will go down as my year for most Head-Fi/Case meets ever attended!
-
I think you're referring to someone else's Eastsound E5, because my 640C V2 wasn't there.
-
It's true, no headphone XLR output. Seems pointless to have the balanced input on this amp. Um....CanJam 2009!

Pics from the 8/24/08 HeadRoom & LA/OC Audio Society meet. I know these pics aren't exactly interesting but I wanted to demonstrate something. 1st pic taken by me with the Nikon D80 body and Tamron 17-50 f/2.8. 2nd pic taken by Iron_Dreamer with the Nikon D80 body and one of his lenses. See the work of the better photographer!

I haven't heard any HeadRoom amps for a long enough time to be able to comment on them. I can say though that HeadRoom is the 4th and last commercial amp vendor that I'd buy from after HeadAmp, Eddie Current, and Woo Audio (in that order also) - I wouldn't personally buy from any other amp vendors at this point, for reasons that are too many to list. "_____" and "____" are 1 dynamic and 1 electrostatic amp, and the electrostatic amp is the still-in-progress HeadAmp Blue Hawaii SE, if that helps any. Right now I am not listening to my home CD system since there's no amp in place. I have the SP Square Wave w/ DAC but it gets next to no use.
-
Soon I hope, I'm still waiting on a proper dynamic amp. I don't consider my SP Square Wave w/ DAC a very good solution and don't really use it. Indeed, thanks again Nate, that part sure came in handy.

- Head-Caser* modded Cambridge Audio Azur 640C V2, yay! Working transport and with DIY-er approved mods for better sound! - and an APureSound V3 re-cabled K701, so I will finally get to fairly compare the APS V3 to the SAA Equinox (serial number also in the 2xxx range, like my existing one) * name withheld to protect him from PMs from people that would probably request more modding work ** and there are 2 other people on Head-Case who know who he is anyway...so thanks man!

Not really a "meet" per se, at least as far as Head-Fi meets go, but a good time regardless. As the event was only 4 hours and primarily for the LA/OC Audio Society, I did not expect to do much listening, and indeed did very little and got to spend only a few minutes with a phat pad-modded Audio-Technica AD2000. (Which was still pretty good, even if it sucked out the mid-range a bit compared to a stock non-modded AD2K.) I spent most of the event talking to various people and taking photos wherever I could. The Head-Fier/Head-Caser turn-out was pretty good actually and I saw various familiar faces. Notable equipment highlights - Tyll's Wadia (not sure which model) & HeadRoom Max Balanced, the Audiophile Desktop w/ the Harbeth speakers, Luxman DU-80 universal player w/ P-1 headphone amp, and a Modwright-modded Transporter. Random equipment visual impression - the CRL Silver Series analog ICs (one of the raffle prizes) are THE thickest interconnects I've ever laid eyes on. These were definitely over the diameter of the Acoustic Zen Silver Reference II that I previously owned which were exactly 0.5" thick. Insanity. Head-Fier setups included someone's MacBook w/ Apogee Duet, my laptop w/ the HeadAmp Pico (both Edwood's and Iron_Dreamer's), someone's Eastsound CD-E5 w/ M^3, and another setup which wasn't easily identified (but which I took a pic of). More than a few Audio Society members seemed to be impressed by the Pico. I suspect Justin will have some more orders coming soon. I'll upload my stash of pics tonight. And thanks to Tyll for coming out and sponsoring.

Congrats on being able to acquire that amp Ryan! I remember you wrote on Head-Fi somewhere that you used to own one and missed it so much, if a used one ever came up you'd jump on it again. Must be a great amp since it's from the hands of Craig Uthus, the man really seems to know his stuff.

It was completely and utterly disappointing to see both the USA Men and Women teams get disqualified in the 4x100 relay. Then again the USA wasn't the only country disqualified, but how do these Olympic-trained runners not know how to pass the baton?

I recently had to open my Plinius CD-101 (a physical issue with the transport developed) and thought I'd take additional pics of the internals. First though some specs: - DACs: TI PCM1704 (2) (not the 4 required for true-balanced dual-differential output) - Op-amps: unknown, but ECE EDR201A1200 in analog output stage - Unknown: National LM317T (2) and LM337 (2) - Transport: Asus CD-S520B2 Previous set of internal pics posted on Head-Fi here: Head-Fi: Covering Headphones, Earphones and Portable Audio - View Single Post - The Plinius CD-101 has landed - and is staying

Personal preference maybe, but the 1400x1050 resolution is downright visually distorted, an Ethernet jack on the left side is going to inconvenience maybe at least 50% of users, and the touchpad area is unnecessarily reduced by the double sets of buttons: As for the hardware problem, all it took was an in-warranty repair on Lenovo's part for a new HDD and BIOS refresh, came back as good as it should have in the first place. Wasn't customer-inflicted at all either, the laptop simply started going bad slowly over the first two months with lock-ups, blue-screens, and finally boot failure. Was the weirdest thing, glad it has no issues now.

Well I really don't have any experience with or knowledge of the current generation of laptops, don't ask me. Check notebookreview.com though, and notebookforums.com, those are the two primary sites I've referred to.

Parasound AWG12 power cord Eh, the T61 is a good laptop but it has a few issues. I recommended it for a friend earlier this year based on the reviews and got to play with it (setting it up and so forth) and there were a few things that bugged me, like the keyboard layout, double touchpad buttons, too-small touchpad area, and placement of the Ethernet jack. The 14.1" model's native 1400x1050 resolution is also kinda annoying, it gives the illusion of too much space around desktop icons. And the specific model my friend got developed a serious hardware problem 2 months into ownership and we had to send it back to Lenovo for a new HDD and BIOS refresh. The reviews for the T61 may be pretty strong but I don't think I'd recommend it again...

Well epic flail would probably appropriately describe Singlepower too....
-
Epic win = Head-Case Epic fail = Singlepower
-
This thread is full of epic win and fail at the same time.

Not a great pic, still learning how to use a DSLR, but I wanted to capture the moment.

Someone needs to point out the glaring misinformation in HeadphoneAddict's posts, both of them. (Not me.)
