I dissent with this statement good sir! Have you never been to a live rock or electronica gig? The whams are always aplenty, signified every time by the screaming crowd and the jiggling of their arms, hips, and butts in time to the beat that only a good solid bass thump can provide! It's really quite hypnotic when you watch it too. As a somewhat young person myself, I resemble this remark! It's not fun until it's ear-bleedingly loud and tons of bass is rippling through the crowd!

I heard the DT48 at last year's SoCal meet and was vastly underwhelmed. I'm not sure exactly why Uncle Erik, kool bubba ice, et al, are raving about it. It was also extremely uncomfortable - holy closed-can pressure Batman!

Shouldn't the question be between the Aristaeus, WES, and A-10? Now if you sent your Aristaeus to CanJam '09, trusted people could find out for you, because as it is, no one will be able to offer any opinions until at least CanJam '09. ^ what Duggeh said. Keep the Aristaeus, I say!

New Woo Audio Electrostatic Headphone Amp!
Asr replied to Voltron's topic in Headphone Amplification
Oh that is amazing, I like its look over all the other Woo amps. And it's in silver!!! Good news for me if I wanted to buy one. Damn, CanJam '09 is going to be a new-gear madhouse for everyone attending! -
Curiosity question: between the current-production 006tII, 007tII, and 727tII, which one is technically the best for the OII as a general comparison point against aftermarket non-Stax amps?

And to a lesser extent, a good power supply also contributes to a high-end source - the toroidal transformer, filtration, regulation, etc. So it's the whole system of parts & sections that makes a good high-end source, not just the DAC, analog output stage, master clock, et al.

Nope, not in my current job. Haven't heard of Csound, I'll look into that, thx. I haven't kept tabs on the software development community in a long time, guess I should start doing that.

....I know Head-Case isn't exactly the most on-topic forum some of the time and threads routinely go in different directions here, but did you need to post that in this thread that's about the A-10 and not the CTH? No offense but I don't see where anyone asked you for your opinion of the CTH. Uh ok, but it's you who chose to write your reviews for whatever reasons you had, of your own inspiration. And for the record, if I could go back in time to never have written any reviews for HF, I would do it, I regret putting any of my thoughts to digital paper in retrospect. Reviews are worthless to anyone but myself and I would delete all of the ones I wrote if I could erase them from the collective consciousness.

I too used to think it was a sort of "civic duty" to report my impressions on gear, but that doesn't mean one has to do it if you don't want to. But I eventually came to realize most people don't really care and everyone's ears & preferences are different anyway, so I decided to stop wasting my time. I just listen for myself now and am much happier as a result. I think if you're tired of writing reviews, quit it and disable your PMs so you don't get stray questions from ungrateful strangers who will most likely not take any reasonable advice. That's what I found most annoying and is why I followed that route myself. It also doesn't hurt that as a result of my Head-Fi journey I've heard everything I wanted to and finally killed all my curiosities. It took a lot of money to do that but I'm actually glad I got to the end-point.

or Bluetin.com The AD2K was indeed originally about $500 but then inflation happened, followed by the economic recession.

If you could live anywhere in the US where would it be and why?
Asr replied to Grand Enigma's topic in Off Topic
I haven't heard that statistic, but it usually is sunny from mid-winter to late-fall. It's just that invariably, there are a lot of days that start sunny and in the afternoon/evening, there's snow (winter), rain (spring), thunderstorms or hail (summer), or clouds (fall). -

You might like the Boulder-Denver corridor in Colorado then. Denver's not really that big (more like it's surrounded by a bunch of smaller cities/suburbs), almost anywhere outside the city is relatively affordable, and if the economy weren't in the toilet right now there'd be lots of job options. I pretty much love it here, missed it like mad when I lived in California, enough for me to want to move back. The only real downside to living here IMO is the variable weather (even within the same day), regardless of season. But I'm biased of course. -

Help! My computer is infected and on it's last limb!

^ System Restore can be pretty handy I admit but it's not foolproof. IMO a better method is partitioning the HD and using something like Norton Ghost to save an image of C:\ to a secondary partition. -

Help! My computer is infected and on it's last limb!
Asr replied to LFF's topic in GoRedwings19's Computer Help Hotline
Cool, glad to hear it. As for the PC being slow, you're going to have to be more specific if you want further help. Slow as in general laggy responsiveness still? If you have sufficient RAM (>1GB for WinXP which I assume you're using) and the swapfile is large enough (more than 2GB), the only reason you'd get slow responsiveness would be either spyware, or too much software resident in memory (or a specific memory-resident program is using a lot of processes). Download a tool like Process Explorer to see what's running and take a screenshot to post back here. -

Check the boxes for these entries and do a "Fix Checked" on these: O2 - BHO: CPV - {15421B84-3488-49A7-AD18-CBF84A3EFAF6} - C:\Program Files\WWShow\WWShow.dll O2 - BHO: (no name) - {37CBB1E4-6571-4BF5-A7C3-555C7AA4F152} - (no file) O2 - BHO: (no name) - {405F5CC5-2D0E-4C6E-891D-5D7654265E62} - (no file) O2 - BHO: (no name) - {71FC65A5-6A5A-4180-9CF9-2514C1513DA3} - (no file) O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file) O2 - BHO: 0 - {ECB8289F-A0EA-4E58-D387-25CC99BE8413} - (no file) O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [nidle] "C:\Documents and Settings\Luis\Application Data\nidle\nidle.exe" 61A847B5BBF72813359231466188719AB689201522886B092C BD44BD8689220221DD3257 O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Twain] C:\Documents and Settings\Luis\Application Data\Twain\Twain.exe O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [rkwu] C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\rkwu\rkwum.exe O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [DigiFast] C:\Documents and Settings\Luis\Application Data\digifast\digifast.exe O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [SfKg6wIPuSpdc] C:\Documents and Settings\Luis\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows\sxxxxr.exe O20 - Winlogon Notify: ssqrq - C:\WINDOWS\system32\ssqrq.dll (file missing) O20 - Winlogon Notify: wingdm32 - wingdm32.dll (file missing) After you do a "Fix Checked", try to locate all the referenced files to see if they're actually deleted, and if they're still there, manually delete them. Then restart the PC and do another scan, and post another log here. It's possible your PC will still be infected afterwards, though this should definitely help with some of the problem you're experiencing. Also, some ways to avoid getting infected by spyware in the first place: - Use the "Immunize" feature in Spybot Search & Destroy. This feature blocks known attack vectors (primarily from Web sites) and is actually extremely useful. - Upgrade to IE7 (or IE8 ) if you're using an earlier version. - Stop using IE and use Firefox instead. - Don't visit pr0n sites - or warez, torrent, or file-sharing sites for that matter either. As for what you're infected with, I can see that there's adware and multiple Trojans on your PC, some of which is probably hiding itself. If it were my PC I wouldn't personally rest unless I reformatted from a known clean image, but reformatting isn't an option for everyone. -

Install HijackThis and post your log, I might be able to tell you what you have, and to what extent you're infected, and possibly how to remove it - but I won't guarantee that it can be removed easily.
