Forgot to add Nirvana - Nevermind [MFSL] earlier. From deepak who listed it here: http://www.head-case.org/forums/general-sale/7231-sold-led-zeppelin-barry-diament-mastered-first-pressing-cd-set.html And while we're talking about HDTracks, I thought I'd copy this from a newsletter I got from them a while back:

Thanks for the info, it was exactly the motivator I needed. Just booked my two one-way flights, so count me in. I'm excited, this thing is shaping up to be like a DanJam II of sorts.

Well both of them have very nice brushed-aluminum chassis and almost look like they were made to go with each other. They look extremely silvery together too. (Too silvery that I had to tone it down a bit in post-processing.) I think the Ayre looks nice, certainly has a solid build quality. It's also pretty darn big (almost the size of my laptop), I wish it was smaller.

Decided against bringing the stat gear due to various factors, so here's what I'll have instead: - laptop PC (with even moar music) > Ayre QB-9 > Woo Audio WA22 > balanced Qualia 010, HP1000/HP2, AD2000, and K701 - if there's a use for them anywhere, I can also bring my Pico DAC/amp and/or Gilmore Lite I would like to send my stuff in 3 boxes (one for QB-9, one for WA22, one for headphones). None will be big or heavy so they'll be easy to transport and will fit in a car. Since morphsci said he won't be there early on meet day, who wants to take receipt of the boxes between recstar and Pars? (or maybe even Aura?) (oh and I won't mind if the recipient wants to open any of the boxes to try something out, as long as it's properly re-packed)

I don't believe much in burn-in either, at least for beyond dynamic headphones. But I'll keep an open mind and see if I notice any differences. And speaking of the C-5xe MP, I intend to find out how the two sonically differ at some point.

I just ordered one. I wanted to resist it but I just couldn't! It was also the dealer's last unit before they have to order more that'll arrive in a few weeks. A sign? It'll be here as soon as tomorrow even.

Not many have heard the P200 yet so you might be waiting a while. IIRC, IPodPJ didn't like it, but I did. Take from that what you will. Well the P1 has twice the output power of the P200 at 1W vs 500mW (at 32 Ohms), so it should theoretically drive all headphones better including high-impedance ones.

Pics from two weekends ago on a hike near Ward, CO. I was hoping for additional shooting opportunities of aspen trees this weekend but we got snow here yesterday so no more fall colors now. I later saw ISO was at 1250 after I took these pics. Man I really need to start remembering to double-check ISO before taking pics.... 1/60 @ f/10, 38mm 1/80 @ f/9, 17mm 1/1250 @ f/4.5, 50mm

Good info, thanks. Probably won't be shipping to the hotel then.
-
Well I have met Billy and just met Audio Addict last weekend. Oh and you at CanJam 09, so that makes three. And thanks, I might take you up on your offer though I'm still deciding what extra gear to bring, if any. On a related note, anyone have any experience shipping stuff to and from a hotel for a meet? That might be a viable alternative I hadn't previously considered.
-
I like the JH13 more than the OII MKI. Does that count? The two can't really be compared though since one is dynamic and the other electrostatic, and the performance of both is amp-dependent.
-
The travel plans have been made and I'm going to be there. Looking forward to meeting the Chicago contingent for the first time. May be bringing more than my transportable laptop setup, who can I ship stuff to that can also ship back to me? Not sure yet what the extra gear will be but it might just be either my BHSE or something else high-end. (So the boxes I'd send will be moderately-sized - not huge, but they'd need plenty of space in a car - or preferrably something more like an SUV or truck.)

The rest of my CanJam@RMAF-related posts (pics, impressions, etc) will follow on from my post here: Head-Fi: Covering Headphones, Earphones and Portable Audio - View Single Post - CanJam at RMAF Denver CO October 2,3,4

So my picture-quality hit/miss ratio was bigger than I expected. Out of the 301 that were shot (though there were also many duplicate shots I took), a mere 92 turned out to be good enough to post. Lots of good pics in there tho, and will post them later. Sunday 10/4 recap: I attended to my headphone table in the morning, which got a fair amount of traffic. I saw and listened to speakers all day. None were particularly great. Some were better than others of course, but those were few and far between. By the time I headed back to the CanJam room, it was almost packing time, and indeed some people had already started and were making good progress (i.e., HPA). It took a while to get everything boxed back up and stowed in my car. Since my BHSE had a limited amount of time to cool down, and it needed to get cool before I could box it back up, I took it outside and held it up to let the cool mountain air rush through it, and it got cold real fast (good thing both the amp and PSU are vented on both the top & bottom, eh?). We assembled a massive group of approximately 20 people for dinner and headed over to a pizza place down the highway. The group included: JP, Jude, Tyll, Drew, Tyler, Tyler's wife, Bill (wiatrob), Fang & his wife, Steve (AudioAddict from HF) and a bunch of other people I didn't know, which included JH Audio's all-female entourage (I have no idea where JH himself went). A massive amount of pizza was devoured (7 large pies' worth), along with lots of beer. I think we ordered all the pizza & beer in the place. Needless to say, we took over the place and much merriment was had by all. Shortly afterwards we all said our farewells and departed. The pizza dinner was the only one of the three that was photographed (by 4 roving photographers at that, including me), so expect to see lots of pics of it later. It was all quality time spent and like Greg said before, there are even more pics saved in my head (that I can't un-see for that matter). What happens in the Mile High City stays in the Mile High City. And this is true, my photos & impressions will be in a rare post over at HF when they're all ready to post. But I wanted to contribute something specifically to HC first, as HF will not be getting the detailed recaps that I just did. There were also a number of Head-Casers that were sorely missed and whom I hope will join us next time, if there is a next time.... For me this included, in no particular order: Head-Direct HE5 orthos, Audeze LCD-2 orthos, and Woo WES. The WA5 was also much better than expected. I was really impressed by it. I managed to spend some quality listening time on it.

You know what could be a potentially great source for the BHSE? Audio Aero. I was reminded of them when I saw a Prestige at RMAF today. Who else has an AA besides Greg and Reks?

I'm tired after a long weekend bash with friends old and new so I won't post much this time either. Also have to go to work tomorrow which sucks bad! 'Twas a grand smashing time with so many people, but I can say with certainty that the festivities would have been even moar better (if that's possible) if the big lawyer types had been there. For shame. I'll recap what went down Saturday 10/3. I saw and listened to headphones and some speakers. There was a power blackout on the entire block in the early afternoon and shortly afterwards a fire truck arrived to investigate a claimed fire. Ray (Samuels) later told us that some dastardly evil thieves (well, no one knows how many thieves there were but I'm going to assume there was more than one) stole four of his portable amps that were on his table while it was dark. Some other thieves (maybe the same perpetrators?) had also stolen a Head-Fier's iPhone. Since there was nothing else to do when the power went out, I went out to lunch. When I came back, I heard there'd been another power blackout after the first one (apparently power was briefly restored?). Apparently this killed some traffic to the CanJam room. Not to worry, people still came to the CanJam room, if a bit slowly. I listened to some more audio gearz and mingled some more. (Don't worry, I got notes.) When the time came for dinner, an initial group of 4 was assembled: Tyler (Sherwood), his wife, Greg (Augsburger), and me. We went over to a sushi place where we primarily soaked up some drinks to wait for a larger group to go out to eat with later. I ordered a flight of 4 samples and finished them all. And they were good. Greg also ordered a flight of 4 and finished his set too. We later picked up JP, Jude, Drew from Moon Audio, and Lavry Audio's Head-Fi advertiser (not as creepy as that might sound, he was a cool guy....yeah and I forgot his name) and went over to Ted's Montana Grill in Landmark Village (really close to the hotel) for some really tasty burgers. Damn they were good, loaded with grease and cheese and who knows what else. There was talking, drinking, & laughing aplenty. Good times. Tyler's wife drove my car in both directions actually (from the hotel to Ted's and back to the hotel) as I wasn't sure of how much I'd be drinking and I was glad she did, because by the end of the night I was out! I then crashed and do not know what happened afterwards. I'll recap today's (Sunday's) events tomorrow when I have my senses back and will then proceed to provide pics and impressions. Attached are two samples to prove that yes, there were some good times that happened here. (Pics from today 10/4.) Also, my camera shows a current count of 301 pics total taken over the weekend. It's a good bet that at least half of them will turn out ok and will be posted.

When you've got a motley crew of some really cool Head-Casers (and even Head-Fiers), who cares about speakers? Hell, who cares about headphones? It's been absolutely fantastic so far and that's not even for the audio show (which is cool too of course, but not as fun as hanging out). I would've posted pics and/or impressions by now but those will have to come later, when I have more time to compile everything, because I'm beat. I'll recap what went down Friday 10/2. I saw some headphones but listened to none, literally. All I did was talk to people new and old (including vendor stalwarts Woo Audio, RSA, Moon Audio, et al) and take pics of the headphone room. Most people were familiar - JP and Jude whom I saw first, and then later on, Sherwood, Augsburger, HPA, and of course the vendors. Very cool crowd that includes AmanGeorge from over at the other site. I made a mid-day rush with JP to grab a cable adapter for his Mac computer at a local Apple store and we grabbed lunch on the way back. And later on we assembled a small group to go out to dinner that included me, Sherwood (Tyler), Augsburger (Greg), and AmanGeorge (Aman). Sherwood drove us to a really cool place in downtown Denver (which is quite a ways from the event hotel) that featured "comfort food" and some drinks that I personally did not get to partake in. Food was amazing and the company was also awesomely entertaining. 'Twas definitely a night to remember. Big thanks to Tyler for taking us to a great little place that I'll have to go back to. Though I kinda wanted to also check out speakers over the weekend, it doesn't really matter if I don't get to. The speakers will continue to be here every year but the people necessarily won't. I'll post my next update tomorrow (Sunday) night but don't expect pics or impressions then. Those will probably come even later....

I know it's a bit early for this, but the anticipation is building for what will surely be an awesome 3 days of audio goodness! My gear is all packed up and so are my clothes, because I'm far enough from Denver that it'd be a pain in the ass to make the round-trip drive twice a day for 3 days. And also because I have a proactive role in this year's show, plus there are a bunch of cool people to hang out with this time. Not sure how soon pics will be coming because I recently had to format my laptop (new HD) and couldn't find my Photoshop Elements CD in time to install it. Will look for a freeware alternative in the meantime.... Heading to Denver tonight after work to scope out the scene and meet up with JP, Jude, Jack Wu, et al.

I just got a new e-mail newsletter from Elusive Disc and they mention they'll get another 404LE shipment in mid-October. There's also a big mention of the limited-edition SRM-600 which is far less interesting.
-
Well hang on now, because I find myself diverging from my own opinion. I directly compared the 404LE to the AD2000 the other day and found that I liked the AD2K more. So while the 404LE is my new favorite stat, the AD2K is still my #1 headphone. Also wanted to add that my 404LE is #670 (of the #1000 that were made) and Elusive Disc reports they're out of stock now too. That was pretty fast.

Pico USB DAC & Gilmore Lite should be a winning combo. I'll find out for myself pretty soon just how winning the combo is, but I'm confident in saying that it'd be one of the best <$1K DAC/amp pairs that can be assembled.
