Nope, no real experience with any orthos other than the HE-5 (if it counts). But my interest just went back up.

Hrmm so would it be fair for you to say the LCD-2 sounds more like the AD2K? If so, not exactly what I was hoping for - but I guess I'll find out for myself soon enough. I have to add, the aesthetics of the LCD-2 are pretty cool. Something about it just speaks to me. CanJam '10, stat.

Just got the June 2010 issue of Stereophile today and a review of this DAC was in there. Every important input (coaxial, optical, AES/EBU, USB), USB upsampled to 24/192, and it has both RCA and XLR balanced outputs - for $879! And it's also a headphone amp. I think I might have to try one. The review says the DAC chip is the PCM1796. Here's a pic (it's the one on the top):

The Pinnacle looks cool but the cost is way out of reach. The Peak, on the other hand, is something that I will probably end up buying. I like its dimensions, the footprint of a piece of typing paper! Peak + Volcano = so good it'll make your brain asplode?

It's all kinda "average"-sounding - there's nothing particularly great about it. It sounds like it should be in the $300-$500 range of headphones along with the K701, HD600/HD650, etc. If it was in that price range, I'd call it a pretty good headphone. But at $1.3K it deserves a facepalm and shovel. I have several hours of burn-in on it so far and my opinion still hasn't changed, but we'll see what develops, if anything. I'm usually not one to bash others' opinions but I seriously have to call into question the raving at HF over this headphone by people such as Skylab, Macedonianhero, et al. Their standards have to be really low or they haven't heard many headphones if they think the T1 is as good as they claim.

I re-ordered a T1 not too long and got them today. About 1.5 hours of listening so far. I think these have been vastly overhyped on HF, I'm just finding too many aspects that are disappointing in one way or another. Too many to write about now. Ok it's not terrible but these just aren't giving me any listening enjoyment whatsoever whereas I can routinely get at least a little enjoyment with my Qualia, AD2K, HP2, JH13, or Stax OII/BHSE. I'm still going to hang onto them long-term for other reasons but this is just not what I was hoping for sonically.

No but you could probably hit a DAC-shilling ignoramus. I'd suggest not taking the advice of almost anyone over at HF because let's face it, most of them are either shills or recommend substandard gear solely because that's all they have experience with. I would also recommend staying away from Audio-GD stuff, just because it's constantly shilled to the hilt by IPodBJ, as if he's their spokesperson (which he certainly acts like). DACs that the HC collective usually recommends are made by Parasound, Assemblage, and Sonic Frontiers, if you don't mind vintage stuff from the 90s. DIY is also a good solution I've heard.

With an endorsement like that, I am now officially interested in the Thunderpants!

Using your first post to complain about Head-Fi is probably not the best way to go about things.
