  1. Well Elusive Disc's new price is $2025 which is probably MSRP, though Woo Audio's price is only $1700. Take an appropriate percentage off I guess. You know, one of these days I'm going to travel to Asia and when I do I might want to stop by your place and look at your CD collection to see what else you have. (Well and I'm also going to want to listen your gear too of course.)
  2. Just curious, how much of this meet-shilling did you observe? Was there a lot of it? Because if that's all that "DannyB" is going to do at CanJams, maybe he should be banned from CanJams.
  3. My shots were done in manual mode. f/8 @ varying exposures ranging from 2 to 13 seconds, ISO 200, manual focus (AF disabled) with focus set to infinity, and focal length at 50mm. Tripod-mounted of course. A remote shutter release would've helped me a lot too, will have to get one sometime.
  4. 4th of July pics from Estes Park. Did not have enough time to scout the town for a good view of the fireworks reflecting off of Lake Estes which would have been cool. As 2 pics below show, storm clouds rolled in during the evening but fortunately it only barely rained.
  5. Mmm, food. Now I'm hungry. If that were me I'd be shooting from a slightly higher angle but that's just me.
  6. I suggest ignoring the LCD-2 thread on HF. Is there anything really useful in there anyway?
  7. [AK]Zip has a thread up over at HF for DFW Meet #9: DFW Meet #9 Date Decision. July 2010! (Dallas + Ft. Worth) - Head-Fi.org Community
  8. Aw, NoNoNoNoNoNo's ad is gone, what'd I miss? I did see it for a moment last night though. I honestly thought he was on the road to improvement but it looks like he hasn't changed his douchebag ways. He also knows Filburt has been looking for a 2.7 for a long time.....
  9. Hrmm, looks like the extra few mm might actually be useful, thanks Nate. On a side note, were those shots hand-held? That almost looks like the photographer's shadow which would seem to logically skew the results.... My camera does only DX unfortunately.
  10. Hrmm I think I might have to pick up either that Tokina 11-16 or Sigma 8-16, could definitely use an ultra-wide to better shoot landscapes, among other things. How noticeable is a 3mm difference?

    Suggestions for me

...ran out of time for an edit, so here's a continuation post. Some more rock & metal I might add: - A Perfect Circle - Disturbed - Iced Earth - In Flames - Symphony X And given the metal bands you mentioned earlier I noticed some parallels to Peter's library on Last.fm, here's his page: Iron_Dreamer. I've found it pretty useful myself to discover more metal. Quite a few other folks here also use Last.fm, I regularly check out everyone who has an account there. MUST HAVE MOAR MUZAK!!!

    Suggestions for me

Along the lines of prog rock I haven't seen Porcupine Tree mentioned yet. Definitely not bouncy-happy, wimp rock, or wispy-voiced. I'd recommend starting with In Absentia. Also Vicki, do you like trip-hop? My 1st recommendation in that genre would be Massive Attack and their Mezzanine CD - though my 2nd favorite CD of theirs is now Heligoland.
  14. I for one wish kwkarth would "put a cork in it" - to use his own words. Is that even appropriate for a moderator/administrator over at HF to post?
  15. Damn indeed, some very sweet Ayre stuff there Al. Did you also get Ayre's chintzy aluminum remote to match?
  16. I ordered one earlier today and it shipped already, dang these guys are fast. I wonder how many of these amps they have in-stock right now. Might be picking up a Valhalla at some point too - $350 is just too good to pass up for an American-made tube amp. I might be doing a loaner program type thing with the Asgard later, could definitely swing it into Canada for at least one person.
  17. - Inglourious Basterds and The Wraith [sE] on DVD - Cakewalk Sonar 8.5 Producer upgrade - MS Office 2010 Pro Plus for $10, legally (some type of corporate deal through the company I work at) - replacement Dell L20U computer USB keyboard (previous one just stopped working the other day)
  18. Let's take a look at the album that lucey worked on, shall we? The Black Keys - Brothers - 01 "Everlasting Light" The Black Keys - Brothers - 02 "Next Girl" The Black Keys - Brothers - 03 "Tighten Up" The Black Keys - Brothers - 04 "Howlin' For You" The Black Keys - Brothers - 05 "She's Long Gone" The Black Keys - Brothers - 06 "Black Mud" The Black Keys - Brothers - 07 "The Only One" The Black Keys - Brothers - 08 "Too Afraid To Love You" The Black Keys - Brothers - 09 "Ten Cent Pistol" The Black Keys - Brothers - 10 "Sinister Kid" The Black Keys - Brothers - 11 "The Go Getter" The Black Keys - Brothers - 12 "I'm Not The One" The Black Keys - Brothers - 13 "Unknown Brother" The Black Keys - Brothers - 14 "Never Gonna Give You Up" The Black Keys - Brothers - 15 "These Days"
  19. I noticed that you had a sig before and you don't now, most likely to hide behind the innate anonymity of the Internet and I would guess so that potential clients can't find your posts here to find out what kind of a person you are. So I'm going to repeat the name & studio link you had in your sig: Brian Lucey, Magic Garden Mastering: Welcome to Magic Garden Mastering
  20. I think I'd actually be interested in checking out a Ref 7 - when I saw regal's post mentioning he has an Audio-GD DAC, I did a double-take! I'm still biased against Chinese gear on principle but would be willing to give the Ref 7 a fair chance. If Audio-GD is interested in the loaner primarily for the user reviews I'm not sure what I'd offer though since I don't exactly have a comparable source (with my main one being a CDP, and the Ayre QB-9 being USB only). Most likely I'd use the Ref 7 from the coaxial output of my CDP and do only that comparison. (But it'd be an interesting comparison for me since both my CDP and the Ref 7 use the PCM1704, although in different quantities.)

    The Live Music Thread

Alison Krauss & Union Station performing at the 37th Annual Telluride Bluegrass Festival - and it was amazing! Seeing Alison live was beyond expectations and those Union Station guys are just supremely talented players. It was totally worth the 9-hour drive to see one of my top favorite bands live, I hope they come back next year! I was able to push my way into the crowd to about 30-40 feet from the stage and getting to see the band that close-up was totally surreal after hearing them so many times on their CDs. I snapped dozens of pics from two different vantage points, here are two to show what it was like. Wouldn't have been able to take the night pic without my D300s (ISO was maxed out at 3200) and Sigma 50-150 (I think I maxed it out at 150mm). Alison was better-looking in person than I could have imagined. The set list included songs from Now That I've Found You, New Favorite, Lonely Runs Both Ways, Live, Forget About It, and even the A Hundred Miles or More compilation. They did a jazz/big-band version of "Oh, Atlanta" that was just as fun as the version on Live and the encore was "A Living Prayer" that everyone shut up for and listening to nothing but Alison singing was spellbinding. The whole thing was an unforgettable experience in the always-beautiful Telluride.

    Canjam 2010.

Finally just got around to processing my touristy pics in Chicago before CanJam, here are some of them. Did not get to see & do everything I wanted even in 3 days and I'm already thinking about going back, maybe even this year in August or September. Jewel performing at The Vic
