That sucks. I have one at C5/6 and L5/S1. I was close to having surgery on the one in my low back about 4 years ago and refused to do it. I've been essentially problem free for at least 3 years. My neck was never as bad but that also got better over time. Neck surgery is one of the last things I would consider. Make sure you're seeing a good neurosurgeon and get a second and third opinion as to surgery. I can't speak to your problems, but numbness can go away. VPI decks are good. My problem is they cancelled their agreement to sell VPI and I became privy to some information that disturbed me about the situation. I've liked all the VPI decks I've heard. I think there is better stuff out there at the same price points but it's good stuff.
