  1. A comment after the article... "When I read text of my hard disk drive via USB words are not magically changed, HOT is not changed to HIT. The USB cable and protocol guarantee 100% error free data or no data at all. The DAC sees the EXACTLY the same set of digits whether USB, Firewire or S/PDIF or indeed any and all digital interfaces that uses error correction eg CRC checks that make sure that if the data is not 100% accurate it is re-sent until it is." I dunno. OT, I still hold to the idea that the major differences are within the dac chip itself, where the analog signal is born. Just like the dac within your system, if you don't have a good infant signal to begin with...
  2. Can't remember or find it now, so don't hold me to it, but I think I remember Ti explaining to someone that you should run everything as hot as it will go to the amp, at which point the amp attenuator will do it's thing. I've played around with it both ways and there isn't a lot of difference to me, other than the amp maybe making a little noise at full volume if the source isn't perfect. I do run the monitors with the attenuation on the back at 0db.
  3. ^That's what happens when you do a lot and get tired.
  4. Wonder who finally got thiers. I believe that's spelled weekend.
  5. Good thing it comes with manuals.
  6. Ooo laa laa, I have not seen those at the local store yet, but then again my store has only had one pair of Adams and then for only a week. At 750 watts peak and looking like new drivers I would expect these would easily trump all predecessors.
  7. I bought a pair at the pawn shop for $150 about 3 years ago. I noticed that the local Guitar Center has the newer ASP8 reduced to something like $329 for the pair. These and the TR-6's turn up in craigslist often. I've also noticed a few 20/20's show up occasionally. These a rumored to be one of the best Event monitors ever made.
  8. I demand a refund on everything, NOW!!!!
  9. And the soundstage/headstage of the 4070 for you?
  10. Your hanging around the wrong crowd, obviously:p Word. Even more so when balanced.
  11. I noticed yesterday some dude on HF put up a pair of Lambda pro's he supposedly bought from an old timer who had stored them away for 10yrs. He's asking $300 plus shipping from Singapore. Link
  12. til hamingju Do share some pictures with us.
  13. remembering "Forget me nots"
  14. My partial hit the keyboard so hard it knocked the h key loose. I'm listening to some smooth jazz while i'm reading so it's all the better LOL. Disturbing images. Don't see people talk about Crisco much anymore.
  15. I use the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ8 with mixed results. It is a little more complicated than I really wanted with way too many settings. I always use the easy mode, the selection with the red heart. I would love to have a nice P&S that had some simple settings that could be adjusted as your focusing, like making the picture lighter or darker, and an easy manual focus. Only reason I ended up with it in the first place is because is was clearanced at Walmart, and Panasonics had a higher than average customer rating on Consumer Reports at that time. CR may be a good place to look again for suggestions, I have a membership/subscription but haven't been there in some time. It will be interesting to see what you end up with and how you like it.
  16. I guess if you've checked Sam's then you've checked Walmart also. They have some sub $370 XP stuff. I'm not a netbook guru but it looks like for just a skosh more you can get a perty good book for not too much dough.
  17. The problem with that is I now have a bit of KG fever from my dynamic experience.
  18. I understand I need to do a bit more reading, just hate to pass up a good deal on what appears to be some newer amps. Could be listening while I am reading.
  19. There is a 007tII and 007ta also, seems like everyone is in the mood to upgrade to the KGSS/KGBH. Maybe I'm wasting my time here with Stax. I could buy a lot of parts with a grand.
  20. As I have read spritzer say about the earlier version. http://www.head-fi.org/forums/f42/fs-stax-srm-t1w-electrostatic-tube-headphone-amp-balanced-preamp-433036/, maybe a mistake but , there it is. insomniac, never seen him online waiting for someone to reply. I think he maybe bit on Dreadhead's KGSS.
  21. How about an SRM-T1W for starters. I have found one for $750 shipped and would be content to wait for a pair of phones to go with later. Will probably do a KGSS myself eventually.
  22. Black mask and gold immersion? Payment sent.
  23. You should have no problem unloading the one you didn't like. Amp I mean.
  24. I agree. Modulation and detail can only be reproduced by the song itself. The circuit will either reproduce it to your ears liking or not.
