As other's have said nice work Ben. A two century weekend is awesome! Sounds like both of them were an adventure. I've always wanted to do an brevet at some point. These guys do a bunch of different from 200km to 1000+km events: http://dcrand.org/dcr/ Maybe next year we should try and push the envelope. I personally would like to try for a 200km with the goal of a 300km event. That said I need more time on the bike to get my body used to it again. My "second century" was hiking around the National Zoo for 4 hours with a 40 lb baby carrier and baby combination on my back. It was not in the same league but it was some good exercise.

Depressing that they aren't in business anymore. -
Nice work Nate. I've been there with the cramps etc and it's no fun. I really like Nuun for keeping me from getting them. After this weekend's century I'm now trying to decide between A (18-20) and BB (16-18) groups for the coming ride. I am pretty sure I can hang with the A but I am doubting myself. Edit: Decided to play it safe and make sure I finish and do BB. I also set up a fundraising website through the American Cancer Society in Memory of Meaghan's mom: http://main.acsevents.org/goto/Chris_Kent

Had a very nice hot ride this morning. My buddy got through his first century and I had a nice easy ride in general. Feeling good for the Back Roads Century in 2 weeks, http://app.strava.com/activities/190780073 http://adventures.garmin.com/en-US/by/dreadhead/lakes-and-grapes-century/

^ That is good advice. For example: http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/mld/fuo/4649423044.html Lots of other listings. I'm sorely tempted by a stained but fully functional Leap v2 for $100. We already have a Bissel spot cleaner at the house because of the kids.

I have nothing to do with this but looking at this thread makes me think of a bunch of pool sharks that "suck" at pool

That's good of that guy to post. Hope the person who takes it is appreciative.

I stand corrected What software did you use? I'm guessing Virb Edit and therefore I have to figure out how to get that far more useful info display than the one I used. Now I'm looking at a spare battery or two for the Virb as well though I'm thinking that I may just put it power saving mode and hope for the best at my century. The screen is facing the ground and I'd wish it would just turn off all that stuff.

Ben's using a Shimano CM-1000. I should have uploaded mine at 1080p as it looks like crap.

I made this Garmin Adventure of my ride yesterday: http://adventures.garmin.com/en-US/by/dreadhead/virb-playing/ Right now it takes a long time to load but I will cull photos from it and the link will stay the same. I have learned that you don't need a photo every 30 seconds of a 3hr plus ride. I'll need to work out how to use this thing on the road. I'm guessing I'll be using the Edge800 remote functionality mostly but I have a lot to learn. Video too: Edit: Updated Adventure and culled a lot of photos.

I tried the gear out with a quick lap of the lake. Very nice. The XL jersey is a bit big but there wasn't a L in the store. I'm going to dig the receipt out of the trash and see if I can switch it out when I get back north. Edit: It looks like I can.

Yeah I had to run this morning. It increased the value of being able to ride a bike. Anyway, now I will have a super nice set of backup clothes to leave at the lake.

I was nearby to a Performance Bikes store dealing with a Comcast cable box exchange and I folded like a abstinence pledge on prom night and bought a whole outfit of their "Ultra" Elite stuff at 40% off. Still blew more money than I should have and I'll look like a dude who shops at Performance but the quality seems to blow the crap out of my fancy ass Panache stuff.

Congratulations!

Yeah I guess I was overplaying my hand a bit. I'm not that concerned about the century. I've started working out for 40 min 5 days a week for the last couple weeks so I'm feeling reasonably fit (though still 30lbs higher than Thanksgiving last year). Also, I'm doing the ride with my friend Scott and last time I rode with him I was still a fair bit slower than me so I'm hoping that the fact that he's used to the miles and I'm used to going faster will sort of mean we end up in about the same spot.

Glad to hear that re the Virb. I guess I will have to wait until next week's century to find out. I went to the nearest bike store which had some nice stuff but decided a 3 day weekend of riding wasn't worth $200 to me especially when I have so much gear at home. Going to be a fishing weekend instead. Probably not good that next week's century is probably 2x as long as I have done all year. Ended up buying Ben a early birthday present, he tried it out and loved it. He doesn't like the balance bike we got him so hopefully this gets him excited.

Down at the lake for a few days. Forgot all my fucking cycling clothing. So pissed off at myself. Have helmet and shoes and that's it. I guess I will be buying expensive back up gear from the nearest bike shop tomorrow.

Ouch Dan. I am glad you are OK. Garmin Virb arrived today: Looking forward to trying this out this weekend. Will be riding my other bike. Edit: One thing to note when buying cheap mounts. Cheap appears to mean "does not include loctite". I was just lucky that the bolts losened up when I was just playing with it not out on the road and dropping my camera on the tarmac. All fixed now.

Subie 4EVA! (Or until I can afford a Range Rover, Mercedes AMG Wagon or they bring the Jag Sportwagon to the US)

RIP Miko. Sorry for your loss Ric and family

Not my club but yeah very cool of them. My club is filled with racer douches that look down on centuries. I am thinking of joining the club that is hosting the ride though. Maybe next year.

Totally understand Juan. I may be biting off more than I can chew. Now I can treat Lakes and Grapes as a warm up / check out with my buddy and then more bury the hammer on the Back Roads Century.

Another cool looking event I just found: http://www.sport-vista.com/page/show/837430-event-information Gran Fondo Virginia down in Charlottesville. Justin should do this and let us know how it is Edit: I signed up for the Back Roads Century because the club is running group rides within the various routes at various paces so hopefully I'm able to hold on to the BB ride for the full century (or maybe the B ride). More clubs should do that, it's a great idea.
