  1. Ok lets be clear that these plots while they are marketing are not bullshit. The standard equalization for diffuse field ends somewhere around 100Hz on the low end and around 16kHz on the high end. (I can't even hear beyond 15kHz if I am listening to a pure sinusoidal signal that doesn't have any spurious harmonic content). The vetical scale is a bit large but to be honest isn't too large to figure anything out. Most people have a hard time discerning 1db changes to the equalization of an audio system so it is well within that. The only thing that annoys me is that they do not give their target curve for the diffuse field equalization (which represents a standard room) and I wish they did. Then I would know how these phones do against free-field response (anechoic chamber). I asume they are not using the IEC standard or they would say it somewhere. If you're interested both the Neumann KU100 website (in particular: http://www.neumann.com/download.php?download=docu0009.PDF) and the Head Acoustics website (in particular this document, http://www.head-acoustics.de/downloads/eng/application_notes/Equalization_brochure.pdf) have lots of good info. It looks the the SR-LAmbda is about as ideal as it gets for diffuse field response at least according to the Neumann document.
  2. Me too. I like the VeloNews Live tracker though. Gets the point across.
  3. Well that range covers probably well over 95% of all information in a recording so useless is probably a bit strong
  4. Holy crap. Andy is making this a race
  5. Got my graph for my new pair yesterday. I guess I should post a pic.
  6. Win
  7. Buy one and let us know I'm sure you could always return it.
  8. Worked. Finalized order for new toy (bike). Left on time went and picked up KGSS All around a good day (other than the work part)
  9. More like 80% but yeah. With the terrain around here that's about where it ends up. If I do 10 miles or I do 40 miles my average HR over the ride is 155. I have a heart condition that makes my heart run a few beats high so that's part of it. We'll see how this all goes. Thanks for the advice
  10. Oh ok, I didn't realize. I use a 4 way balanced audio switch with identical Mogami cables that I had my wife rearrange and at regular listening volumes I couldn't tell the difference between my $300 DEQ and the $2.5k BC DAC3 or $3k Weiss DAC3. I tried quick switching, I tried long listening with one then switching and I could not identify anything without cheating by cranking the volume and checking the noise floor. I'm not saying there aren't differences with some DACs because there definitely are, (Filburts little number has a huge soundstage, or the Amarra). Not sure what's going on but at least between those three which are aiming at being as true to digital as possible I couldn't hear any difference and I have at least "ok" ears. Enjoy the hunt
  11. Really? I have a DSP/DEQ that would beg to differ.
  12. Great idea Todd. Are you going to make it a sticky somewhere? I am lazy so I just don't want to have to go searching.
  13. Tuna fish sandwich?
  14. Thanks man. I ended up with the SL0 with the Zipps, Red and Fizik saddle. No mountains right near home but some nice 1-2 mile 4-6% hills that are enough to keep my currently fat ass busy. Hopefully my climbing will improve more as I drop weight and work on base fitness. All I can do right now is keep my heart rate at 155 and see what I can do. Once I work up more base fitness I can head over to Shenandoah VA and do some real climbing.
  15. Dinny, you need to get a passive switch and identical cables for all your DACs. After I did single blind testing on them I am much happier with mine
  16. Thanks man. I ended up going with the SL0 with the Zipps. I want Dura-ace but Red is nothing to sneeze at and I can always upgrade in a year or 5. What Colnago do you have? I looked but a bit rich for my blood.
  17. Alison Krauss, "Down to the river to pray", O Brother Where Art Thou (Sound Track). Wonderfully recorded piece with wonderful imaging space. If the phasing is wrong this track points it out. Radiohead, "15 Step", In Rainbows Good overall track for balance and speed. At least for me. James Blunt, "Goodbye My Lover", Back to Bedlam Lots of very small details in the recording and good space good for studying resolution. Hopefully I will be breaking these out today
  18. The EA Sports Tennis game rulez!
  19. A 2009 Giant TCR Advanced SL 0 or SL Team I ordered the Team but I think I may switch to the SL 0 because it comes with much more expensive/better wheels (Zipp 404) and lighter (more expensive) saddle and is the total bike cost is cheaper. The only reason it's not a done deal is long term I want Dura Ace and the SL 0 comes with SRAM Red instead. Really not quite sure what Giant's pricing scheme is since the parts of the SL 0 are worth more than the Team. I blew my budget but the dealer gave me an insanely good deal. He swore me to secrecy on the price, but it was less than anything I've seen online (including e-bay) The only way I could get it cheaper is to go to Taiwan.
  20. That really cranks the suck man! I have forgotten stuff on the plane but luckily I remembered in time and once I forgot my viola (I was taking lessons and the instructor told me I had to practice) on a train in the Netherlands and had to follow it halfway across the Netherlands after the conductor on the train found it and left it at some random train station for me (which was very nice of them). I hope that your stuff turns up
  21. Glad to hear it
  22. Happy birthday!
