  1. Oh Nate, quick tip. In your contacts settings, sync with google contacts. That way your contacts will automatically restore themselves.
  2. Well, I hope it helped you. That was a lot of work. It was impressive to scroll down even.
  3. Virtualdubmod is a little bit technically challenged and buggy and has been for years, even though it is also one of the greatest tools. Videospin is a popular windows movie maker replacement.
  4. Turns out the bootloader key leak was a highly elaborate prank that even Motorola jumped at. Sure thing, although I don't know of a good link to cover it all, so I'll attempt to explain before you go searching forums. Download z4root.apk from here or google it. Install and hit permanent root. All done with that rooting business. You may likely wish to download titanium backup from the market to back up your apps and app data for after you install your ROM. I also highly recommend Koush's clockwork recovery which allows you to boot into recovery and install custom images from the market for $2 or from the developer for free here. Its the perfect tool for making backups of your entire system, clearing cache, factory resets, and resetting battery stats for new batteries and more. Other enormously great root apps are root explorer for exploring the entire contents of the phone with superuser options and droid overclock for overclock profiles. You can install several ROMS, such as Liberty 1.5, tranquility, and Apex which are blur limited or blur free. Liberty comes with a nice toolbox with customization tweaks and the ability to add skins and back the parts of blur you like. Instructions are in many forums (droidforums.net is a good one), it requires usually clearing the dalvik cache and installing the .zip through clockwork recovery. Then you'll want to restore your user apps with titanium. I use the mysterious beast skin with fancy widgets home and lightgrid live background. Folder organizer lets me use custom icons for folders and apps. On the DROID X, there are also a host of other tweaks to remove data throttling, tweak nvram for tethering with the 3G app, enable Sysctl for increased performance and battery life, and enable evrc-b for higher compression voice calls for both higher quality and less bandwidth needed to reduce dropped calls.

  6. Best of luck to your mother Al, really sorry to hear that bad news is going around as much as sinus trouble it seems this season.
  7. No STAX, this thing is worthless. I went for sound quality only and the entire list is crappy earbuds and DJ phones. Your algorithm really does blow. BOSE quiet comfort is #9, Sennheiser HD650 is #29. Crazy bad.
  8. I'm using the Liberty 1.5 ROM currently and all traces of Blur are completely removed. It still uses the Motorola 2.3.340 kernel, but its much faster with nice looks and a nice toolbox of tweaks. I'll have to post pics sometime. I'm worried that the leaked keys are just signatures or not real, so I'm trying now not to get my hopes up too much. Someone has already succeeded in using Kexec to sideload custom kernels and is working on writing the device drivers (already has wireless), so things are still rolling.
  9. Contracts aren't fun. Probably the saddest thing about seeing T-Mobile go is there prepaid month to month prices were some of the best.
  10. Is that with contract Brent?
  11. AT&T will exploit T mo's frequencies to increase their network, your phones will work just fine. More rural areas will benefit from HSPA+ that AT&T would not focus on for LTE 4G normally. In some ways its nice. But I expect that all carrier's cell phone plans will rise again and become more tight-assed on what you can do with data caps, etc. I was already feeling like the telco's were too monopolistic before and it was kind of obvious they were absorbing one another. I look forward to seeing the anti-trust investigation engines starting again. Slightly unrelated maybe, but I really don't see net neutrality happening anytime soon.
  12. Motorola's private keys were leaked today for the Droid X. This means signing updates for custom kernels including device drivers is in theory now unlocked. They had the same vulnerability as the PS3 and ignored warnings for three months. I expect an update will be coming OTA soon with "bug fixes" to resecure it, so if your an owner and interested, it might be a good time to root. Things to possibly come via roms: Ext4 Support for internal memory (faster, more reliable) Amazing Sound quality thanks to oversampling and completely rewritten reference-drivers directly from the sound chip's producer Optimised file system drivers, Kernel uses CPU-Features better - More battery life. Support for completely "blur-free" Roms such as Cyanogenmod or MIUI. This also means that porting new Android Versions to the Device is MUCH easier (as you can replace the Kernel and don't have to work around a Kernel intended for a much older Version of Android.) This news comes at a great time as the DROID X end-of-life is this month and it will soon be pulled from shelves (most likely the DROID X2 will be its replacement, with mainly a CPU and RAM upgrade, removal of camera hard-button, and slightly higher resolution being its only updates).
  13. Punishment in schools really doesn't fit the crime the way it needs to many times in my opinion. Bullying is cultural it seems. Last week an elderly mother forced her kid to beat the shit out of another kid that made fun of him at the bus stop. I think maybe the best advice is to try to do what the school and teacher wants you to the first time to give plausible excuse for when it doesn't solve the problem and you do absolutely need to fight back. I wouldn't recommend doing what a teacher did to me on middle school and force you to stay in the class alone with a bully while the rest off the class goes to get water. Not all teachers are bad, but in some places, some teachers are more then rotten. Bullying on the other hand seems practically universal.
  14. Happy birthday fellas, hope you wake up with great memories and to a wonderful year still to come.
  15. My fridge is stuffed with greatness, but not interested tonight with lots on my mind and a head cold. I did have a good sazarac last night however.
  16. My condolences Ken, a toast from me to Gary and also to good friends.
  17. I hear old men do miss anal movements more often.
  18. Wonder what Clelie is listening to. *humsjeffersonairplane*
  19. The events in Japan have me in awe, I'm still trying to imagine what that would be like. My condolences to those affected and wishes that the damage is not as life threatening as it is obviously economically devastating.
  20. Yesterday was a dreary day. My condolences to little Zachary's friends and family; I am consoled a small amount that he seems to have been well loved and will be missed. And for your father-in-law DW, I wish he had not felt that need and thought of a better direction to take. And also to your mother-in-law Gail Mike, I wish her the best being treated and a quick journey to recovery. May you all have brighter days.
  21. Happy Birthday Fitz! Drnik a fitz of red vodka yo celevrate!
  22. I have had several teachers steal credit for projects that I did most of the work on for my school and students and later use that to step up to new careers. I have a feeling this happens a lot in many careers.
  23. Definitely next year if employed.
  24. Finishing work, going home to take nap, and try to determine if my also super dry throat is going to be serious or not.
  25. Did you just drink that collection down or find another way? I find that it takes me a while to polish off a bottle but I'm constantly tempted to try something new.
