I do enjoy sherry cask aging for malts. It's really an appealing palate for anyone coming from bourbon.
Not sure what to do next - I ought to get a bunch of glenfarclas samples before revisiting glendronach. I wish masterofmalt would offer samples for some of the single cask editions of glendronach. Would be worth it even at $10+.
We supposedly will hit a low of -2 F/-18 C tonight.
Slipped on ice walking home from the gym today and straight fell on my ass at the edge of a curb as cars drove by at 30 mph. My feet were probably less than 2 feet from their tires as they drove by. I could have broken my tailbone and/or been run over. Thankfully I was able to laugh it off after I got up.
Had very little to laugh about this winter.
Groundhog Day is one of my favorites. He had a very minor role in As Good As It Gets but I also really liked his casting.
And he was super nice and a true Chicagoan. Quite a shame.
Right. I was talking about the bourbon. And not everything from SW was magic anyway, but I get why Jefferson's would be able to use that to jack up the cost.
After Mike Sr, John, and I finished up our last PVW15, 20, and 23 tasting I sampled John's JPS18. It compared most directly to PVW23 but I honestly preferred all three PVW's.
I must agree that all JPS' have been overpriced, especially for those that don't have good provenance.
^Go back and get em!
Thanks for the encouragement Shelly. Weather is horrible tonight so I'll have to look for them another time.
I got the samples today. 3 days from the UK?! I knew the shipping was expensive but damn.
A local guy on straightbourbon.com gave me a head's up on where I "might" be able to find some Macallan Cask Strength. Would love to bunker that one so I might make a little trip tonight to suburbia, usa.
Sorry again I can't make this one, folks. I was holding out some hope but I really can't not be home - particularly with a very early start on Sunday meeting downtown in Chicago.
Post lots of pics for virtual attendees!
Lots of snow like this makes him act pretty nuts when he gets outside and he can't really get into the snow to do his business. But... fresh snow is good because it covers the salt. He doesn't like salt. Not one bit.
We haven't walked more than 1.5 miles in any single trip outside since before Christmas. Somehow he's keeping the weight off despite that and us ramping up his food portions.
Forgot to mention - those pugs gotta be the definition of anti-weather. I can't imagine Ollie trying to force his way through a drift, lol.
Do not store any bottle of any kind of whiskey on its side. The alcohol content is high enough that it will destroy your cork, cause a high loss of liquid volume in the bottle (due to the cork breaking down), and might ruin the flavor of the liquor. If you ever hear the term "corked", this is what that refers to.
There is so much snow right now I didn't even bother to try and dig the car out to go to the gym. Just walked instead.
It was reverse lazyness, yet somehow made complete sense.
