  1. Come to think of it, I never discussed such post-dated shenanigans with any of the crew....
  2. Trying to work my inner-Mikey... been building this stash for a while and had a moment for a pic.
  3. Happy birthday Jeff!!!

    Watches

Jacob - thanks for posting a link to your retailer, looks like a very reputable place. I know nothing about watches but I wouldn't mind getting something a bit dressy with a very simple face. No gold, only silver or black. This looks pretty damn amazing to me - http://www.piecesoftime.net/salesww_pages/2086seamaster.html Anything else people might suggest?
  5. RIP Joe. Quite a legacy to leave, no doubt.
  6. Also something interesting I noticed - Lagavulin 16 is very similar to the nose on Longrow 18. Longrow's taste is a bit more complex and interesting, but for the money [it costs more than double in my area], Lagavulin still has a solid amount of value. Really smells noice.
  7. Soon, my friend. Soon we will imbibe! The guys over at TalkBeer have started doing immediate impressions where you're limited to exactly four words. So I need to say that Lagavulin was peaty... but softer than Laphroaig and Ardbeg.
  8. Another peaty showdown! Malt 1: Ginger. Tea leaves. Softly. Phenolic. Malt 2: Sherry. Caramel. Iodine. Ash. Malt 1 is surprisingly fresh in the nose. Aged oak balances pretty well with citrus and a cleaner smoke (if such a thing exists). Malt 2 is brash and richer. Certainly more kick and I would drink this more sparingly. What were these drams? ... ...but Lagavulin 16 and Oogie, of course.
  9. http://www.shavenation.com A little more expensive, but huge selection and the owner runs my favorite YouTube channel (geofatboy).
  10. Spent about 45 minutes getting our car unburied from our single spot just now. I don't know what our total accumulation ended up at but the non-drifts are taller than our dog, so at least 13 inches. The snow was suprisingly light... felt much heavier walking through it yesterday as it was coming down.
  11. Allison's supposed to fly out of O'Hare at 8:30 tomorrow morning. I can't imagine that will actually happen given it's snowed non-stop the last 13-14 hours here.
  12. We're such suckers. This is one money pit I could so easily avoid too.
  13. I really want the white plinth with acrylic platter. Looks awesome. Do you use a different cartridge from what's available from U-Turn?
  14. I 100% see a U Turn TT in my future...
  15. Allison and I are big fans... saw them at Lollapalooza last year. Getting tougher and tougher to find good EDM but these guys know what they're doing, instrumentally, and Lauren Mayberry has a great voice for the genre. Been listening to this obsessively since we got back from San Francisco: The Decemberists - What a Terrible World, What a Beautiful World
  16. I decided that my Merkur 80 wasn't quite doing the trick for growth beyond three or four days, so I ordered a Merkur 39C slant bar, also known as the "sledgehammer" in the shave world. It's a little fatter and shorter and noticeably heavier. You can certainly feel the openness and angle of the comb on the 39C. After one pass I was mostly good to go but a second run-through cleaned it up perfectly. This paired with the alum block is awesome. Some pictures for comparison...
  17. Blech, sorry Peter.
  18. Uh.... gross
  19. Really nice views at the Observation deck in the de Young Museum.
  20. I never participate in here but I liked this shot of my new wife.
  21. Much love, big bro. Hope you have an epic day!
  22. Happy birthday Grahame! Lots of healthy, leafy greens to celebrate, right?
  23. How'd the oil turn out, Mikey? I've had a few shaves where I ended up with a bit of burn so decided to try out an alum block. This Osma seems pretty well-regarded and should help block up any trouble areas.
