  1. I too am a fan of free stuff, the risk reward ratio just doesn't get any better.
  2. You're searching a little hard to find controversy there. 99% of Head-Fi reads your post and looks like this. And the 1% that can read and comprehend what you're saying doesn't care because they already knew it. Plenty of manufacturers use a higher gain to give the perception that their amp has more power or to accommodate low gain sources more easily. Most ignorant users get concerned if they have to turn the volume pot up more than half way.
  3. Amen, to the Joy part that is.
  4. You are correct, the half/kit nomenclature is somewhat of a misnomer since it's usually not much more than the pcb. And knowing that I'd have a hard time shelling out $99 for a pcb but when he includes a chassis he usually doesn't call it a half/kit, like I mentioned above. Only time will tell and it's definitely worth watching and not speculating further.
  5. I'm with JB, I can't imagine the half-kit containing much at $99, certainly none of the trafos. In fact it's sort of weird that he's referring to it as a half kit, I'm surprised he isn't making it a half-box like the Cornet. That'd actually be a decent deal at $99.
  6. Sorry to hear you're not going to make it JB. And Haj, I hear you, if I don't get the mini32 done I don't know what I'll do. I'm not going to waste the time of bringing the old Millett Hybrid down with the Hertsens. I think if you don't have the Single Power by then you should set up your rig and put down a piece of paper that says "Insert Long Overdue Single Power Amp Here".
  7. I should be there. Panel fabrication for the mini32 is almost complete so I actually have an amp to bring.
  8. Sweet! Can't wait to see what it looks like when it's finished.
  9. pcb stuffing for the balanced mini3 is complete. Wiring and casework to commence tomorrow night.
  10. Wonder if that'll drive used prices up or down. I'm sure anyone selling a pair will make claims that the new model is inferior blah blah and the other side will say the opposite. Drama ftw.
  11. I'd really like to but right now I've just got so much going on that I can't deal with trying to coordinate getting molds taken, shipping the headphones off, etc., etc.
  12. I don't think you can hotlink to Picasa.
  13. All you need to do is call Headroom. I ordered Ety tips from them last week and was charged $1 for shipping them in a padded envelope.
  14. I'm sure we'll all be interested to hear the results of the price check, not that I have any $$ to invest in stats right now.
  15. Dude, you drive an Audio, get a phatbox you slacker. Less storage, way fracken cooler. I had one in my S4 and it was the tits. And I guess with my purchase of the devil, I mean Zune, I'm officially off this team.
  16. Lebowski, ftw.
  17. And I'd counter that most of the really hard stuff lacks a bit when it comes production value so searching for some ideal headphones that are only going to point out the glaring flaws in the recording seems fruitless.
  18. If you haven't bothered to amp the 650s properly I think you're going about this the wrong way. When driven by something with some real balls I don't take issue with much the HD650s do, and at a fraction of the cost of the HP-2s and L3Ks which are going to take every bit the amplifier that the 650s will to sound great.
  19. My only thoughts about the mod are that I'm not paying that much $$$ for a headphone that falls apart and takes that kind of effort to sound good.
  20. Here let me reenact that for those who don't want to read the thread, Jack is on the left in this picture, Sov on the right.
  21. Yeah, but when he plays Santa he's a falling-down drunk so I don't see him winning any races. Now, a rabid Bugs, that's a different story.
  22. Except that you've forsaken headphones in the name of other seductress...
  23. Exhibit A: slow-ass Cadbury Bunny Exhibit B: crazy as a mofo Easter Bunny
