Yeah, having a good time despite the 4" of snow this morning that threatened the meet. Pictures are incoming for the impatient. Only impressions so far: 1. Holy crap the pico is good. I don't know what all the belly-aching over at Head-Fi is about with respect to issues using it with IEMs and volume control. It was fine with my ER4Ps and tracked evenly down to nearly inaudible levels. I honestly wish that Justin would make one that's about twice as big so it wouldn't get tugged around on my desktop, that's one of the few things holding me back right now since I don't need a portable amp, but a desktop version sure would be slick. 2. God damn I love the HE60s. :'(

Agreed, that is really good news. I do wonder what will happen if someone like Rockhopper or MisterX decides to build and sell the finished product. That might not go over so well.

You going to give him the one that you won in this contest?

New Laptop Purchasing Help

I said tough, not impossible folks. -
If you are speaking with respect to price than yes, the GS-1000 price stomps other dynamics. In terms of performance, sorry, not to my ears.

New Laptop Purchasing Help

That's a really tough budget in my opinion. My experience has been (through friends) that at that pricepoint laptops aren't really worth paying for. You're going to get something that is absolutely stripped in terms of hardware and software and is really just built so that the company can advertise a laptop under $1000. It'll have integrated everything all sharing the same RAM and none of it using it particularly well. And the longevity of the thing will definitely come into question. You know what, I may have jumped the gun. If you could live with a used/refurb notebook Apple currently has 13.3" Intel Core Duo MacBooks for $749. That would probably be about the best thing that you could hope for. -

Size/weight is another key consideration. Based on what you've said so far I'd think you could choose just about anything in your budget and be fine and for that matter stating a rough budget would help too. And I'd run XP if I were you until Vista gets a bit more support and a major service release from Microsoft. Any reason you're not considering a Macbook? -

What are you looking for in a laptop? A general idea of what you expect to do with the machine would be a good place to start. -
Time to watch Chuck.

wait, why are you crying?
-
Jack, I think you're confused, what makes you think that you won?
-
Are you kidding, the last time I looked for a 3910 all I could find was silver??!?

The only thing that I can add is that Ian had a 2910 and was pretty unimpressed with it for redbook playback. High-res might be a different story though.

I seem to remember reading something in Ray's own thread about him ordering some 400 or more chassis. Yup, here it is - http://www.head-fi.org/forums/3635709-post686.html That's a lot on overhead for him at this point if he's really only sold 160 or so... -
Sorry, this argument got me curious so I looked up the Colt's 04 season. You sure they weren't running it up when they beat the Texans 49-14, or when they beat the Bears 41-10, or maybe when they beat the Lions 41-9, or maybe, just maybe when they beat the Titans 51-24? I don't know about you but sure seems to me that they were pounding the shit out of folks just like the Pats did in the early part of this year...
-
Do want any cheese for all this whining you're doing? I'm sure if we looked hard enough at Peyton's 04 season we could pick it apart just as easily but what is the friggen point? They're both at the top of their game and either one would flourish on the other's team. You call Brady mister dink and dunk, I call him captain take whatever the other team gives me. Blah blah blah.

A quick google suggests ~$200 for that model so I'd be curious to hear what Haj paid as well. I sure hope so.

I'll provide pics, just to drive our Rockhopper friend crazy. And I forgot to mention, the Sager was 20% less than a Dell that I was getting ~15% off on (friend of a friend gets a discount) so the Sager is WAY less expensive compared to retail Dell prices.
-
I jumped on this because the performance of the 7959GTX is actually quite a bit better than the 8700 which will soon be the base offering (only a few places still offer the 7950). I just couldn't justify moving up to the 8800, yet. It was between this and a XPS 1730, which the wife like better (simply because of the Dell name recognition). But the XPS costs almost 20% more, has far worse performance specs (still not bad, just not great) and weighs over 2lbs more!!
-
It should be here in less than 3 weeks. My old lappy will ship out on Friday so yeah, it's a bummer to be without one for that long but the new one should be a screamer and it is upgradeable without a mobo change to the 8800GTX card that was just released 2 weeks ago so if I get itchy in a year or so I can just bump the performance again. As it is this unit has been benchmarked seriously high and is way more than I technically need at this point.

Amen to that. Given what I hear BluRay has for problems (no one player other than the PS3 really works) I'm not confident that it will survive. If nothing else I hope that it will teach the industry as a whole that competing formats are good for no one.
