  1. A quick google suggests ~$200 for that model so I'd be curious to hear what Haj paid as well. I sure hope so.
  2. I'll provide pics, just to drive our Rockhopper friend crazy. And I forgot to mention, the Sager was 20% less than a Dell that I was getting ~15% off on (friend of a friend gets a discount) so the Sager is WAY less expensive compared to retail Dell prices.
  3. I jumped on this because the performance of the 7959GTX is actually quite a bit better than the 8700 which will soon be the base offering (only a few places still offer the 7950). I just couldn't justify moving up to the 8800, yet. It was between this and a XPS 1730, which the wife like better (simply because of the Dell name recognition). But the XPS costs almost 20% more, has far worse performance specs (still not bad, just not great) and weighs over 2lbs more!!
  4. It should be here in less than 3 weeks. My old lappy will ship out on Friday so yeah, it's a bummer to be without one for that long but the new one should be a screamer and it is upgradeable without a mobo change to the 8800GTX card that was just released 2 weeks ago so if I get itchy in a year or so I can just bump the performance again. As it is this unit has been benchmarked seriously high and is way more than I technically need at this point.
  5. Amen to that. Given what I hear BluRay has for problems (no one player other than the PS3 really works) I'm not confident that it will survive. If nothing else I hope that it will teach the industry as a whole that competing formats are good for no one.

  7. I love my swt stand (which I just realized I've never posted a picture of) but I'm not sure he really builds them for sale. If I had to buy one I'd keep it simple and go the banana hanger route and just make sure that the type you buy doesn't put any stress on the headband.
  8. Jealousy does not become you. There are valid arguments on both sides and I could care less either way.
  9. Another nail in the coffin. http://www.electronichouse.com/article/blu_ray_sales_are_up_a_lot/C175 Short version:
  10. I think we need to wait and see exactly how that power rating was come by and what the true potential of the amp is. When the beta22 first launched I don't think it was widely known that with a little tweaking you can get 50WPC of pure class A power out of it. My guess is that the 100WPC one might get out of the 24 isn't all that's available.
  11. I think what some folks are forgetting so far is that the construction cost of the 24 is going to be pretty significant (at least from what I see). Most importantly you're now talking about having to get custom heat sinks for both the amp and probably the power supplies. I'm not saying that I won't build one at some point but it'll be a good long while before I even think about it.
  12. That thought had occurred to me and then I realized that it might officially be the most excessive setup ever. ...yeah, my preamp only puts out 50WPC so I coupled it to a 100WPC power amp...
  13. You all of a sudden think the 22 is a turd? I'd rather have the 22 quite frankly. Sure the 24 has more power but requires an active preamp (needs a low impedance on the input) up stream which in my book is kind of a downer. I'm guessing that if you're building a b22 speaker amp it'll be more than powerful enough unless you're driving something crazy with it.
  14. What the F kind of wire is that?
  15. I'm pretty sure that Dusty was being funny and that it was understood that Ed meant a gain of 1.
  16. Care to elaborate on what the VH Audio configuration is? If it's just special litz braiding I think that HGA's braid already qualifies.
  17. While I've never heard them I certainly haven't heard great things about Grover's stuff. In your budget range it looks to me like you're doing just fine with what you've got.
  18. Welcome to head-case, you can't edit posts after 5 minutes. And for the record, I doubt anyone cares what you did or didn't sell your headphones for. That's between you and the buyer.
  19. Happy Birthday!
  20. Can you elaborate, Kevin? Have you told Ti about this? I think it's worth clarifying in this case that TI means Texas Instruments, right? I know I got confused since amb's name is Ti.
  21. Well, you can pay $50 for shit veneer plywood if you want but this is about building something nice. And sure, free lumber is great if you can get it but the equivalent 32 board feet of Cherry would have cost ~$400 and taken 5x as much time to laminate together. This way I can get this piece built in a couple weekends.
  22. [1] Sheet of 3/4" Cherry veneer plywood ($125) [14] board feet of Cherry ($75) = time for a new entertainment center.
  23. I'll be honest, I can't figure out what you're describing. A picture might be worth 1000 words in this case.
