    Fluke 179?

Probably a nice meter but you could also probably live with a lot less. If you're one of those people (like me) who generally buys good tools because you know you'll use them for a long time, buy it. Otherwise for a third of that budget you can get something that will handle most of what you would need for DIY and everything you'd need unless you get really hardcore.
  2. There's a simple solution to that, Priority Mail.
  3. Why do I suspect that I am ecstatic to have missed this entire thread?
  4. That was a very wise decision. The smoking resistor would be the least of your problems had it happened.
  5. You might want to pose the question on head-fi about the variable offset you're getting with the different pot settings. Personally I don't like the sound of that. 45mV is certainly fine and not likely to do anything bad to your cans but the behavior seems strange.
  6. Nice Kevin, a paid shooting gig would be cool. What are you going to do with the old body, backup?
  7. Are you getting any DC offset? Measure DC volts for the following w/ no phones or source connected - OL to IG, OR to IG and OG to IG.
  8. Oh sweet jebus Kevin, you have some nice toys.
  9. I think it'd be safe to continue the discussion of mark's mods in the thread that already exists. I'm sure there will be more iterations of the mods and each one doesn't need its own thread.
  10. I would have loved to give FiOS a try but they don't offer it out in the country so it's Comcast or a dish and I don't want a dish. There are also rumors circulating that FiOS doesn't have any HD receivers in stock right now and won't for over a month. I have to wonder if that isn't somewhat a result of the proposed Verizon/Fairpoint deal.
  11. Yup. My understanding is that this all started like 3 or 4 years ago. Tivo agreed to license their software for use on Comcast's boxes. It's taken this long to figure out how to integrate Tivo's software with stuff like On Demand, etc. The install took about 45 minutes most of which was spent waiting for the software to download. But it's up and running now and so far seems a lot better than the absolutely god-awful Comcast DVR software. I've read about some possible headaches on AVS Forums but I was willing to take the risk and see how it goes.
  12. Here we go. Congrats on what is a great amp, brutally revealing but very rewarding when coupled with a proper source. Careful, some those combinations are in no way guaranteed to play nice with your PPA depending on how it's configured. Specifically if the gain setting could mean very bad things for the 637s, not too sure about the others. Unless you have reason to believe that something is setup incorrectly I'd leave well enough alone. Take it from someone who has rebuilt PPAs after people have blown them up trying to adjust the buffer bias, you DON'T want to find yourself in that situation. It took 3 rebuilds to get one of them working again. And it's really easy to have a probe slip and short the buffer while trying to adjust the bias and then all your amp will do is smoke components (how I got my custom title at head-fi) which is not nearly as much fun as listening to music. I'd highly suggest leaving it that way (see below). http://www.tangentsoft.net/audio/ppa/amp2/ - read all of that, then re-read it, then go read this - http://www.head-fi.org/forums/f6/ppa-v2-help-smoking-output-resistor-long-124880/.
  13. Watching the Comcast tech install the Tivo software on our HD DVR.

My only fear is that it has raised my expectations for how they'll deal with the next 3 years.
  15. Didn't you buy enough stuff this week?

    Agreed, it was quite good.
  17. You know, it's funny, the Equation RP-22x's sound like utter dogshit out of just about everything I've tried them out of except the beta22. I wouldn't thought an amp could have made that much difference, if fact it's the only case like it that I've experienced.
  18. It'll be interesting to see how it goes w/ deepak then since from what I recall he is not at all a fan of the K340s.
  19. I'm just busting on you, if I hadn't finally got to the place where I have no desire to try any more dynamic headphones I probably would have tried the Sextetts.
  20. Sweet dude! If it weren't for the fact that I just mothballed my vinyl rig I would have picked one up.
  21. Damnit man, that type of stuff is top f'ing SECRET!

  23. That'll definitely one of the most absurd office amps ever. But if you're going with the mini it might make more sense to use a Duet for DAC duty.
