  1. Evidently not. The unit that I bought came pre-broken. Looks like I'll get to return it tomorrow.
  2. Rockhopper balanced, I think. Might just be 3-ch single ended though, I can't keep track of all this. If it didn't show up soon I was going to send my resurrected Beta (the retirement amp that was damaged in shipping, which is now home and repaired, to the tune of multiple hundreds of dollars ) down Souf. Me - new AC unit for the bedroom, frack it's hot out. I think it was 94 in the shade here today.
  3. My NYC representation and I have a long standing agreement concerning his HF-1s, sorry.
  4. Thanks and thanks Dan. And at least she's got an easy birthday for me to remember 6/7/08.
  5. Thanks everyone! Maura (the wife) and I are thrilled with the new addition. Sleepness nights are par for the course, the only thing I wish is that I'd been able to catch up on some sleep last week before the big event this weekend. But as with most life changing live events there's never enough planning or preparation that can be done. And we've got two great sets of Grandparents who are both eager to help out so I'm sure we'll be fine. Plus, I'm convinced there are other, dumber folks who have manged to make it through this experience so while not a cake walk I'm sure I can do it. It'll be interesting to see how well I can multi-task!
  6. Today I brought my daughter home from the hospital. Lily Kathleen was born on Saturday morning at 10:02. Both she and mom and doing well and we're all adjusting to the world of there being 3 of us here at home.
  7. A couple hundred feet of Neotech UPOCC.
  8. Just nit-picking, it's not all tube, it's got a SS power supply. Otherwise there's no way that a chassis could be pulled off like that by a DIY'er for under $800. Could similar performance be achieved, more than likely yes.
  9. Metric Emily Haines Joanna Newsom Jesca Hoop Sia Opeth Draconian Feist Epica The Dresden Dolls Cat Power Neko Case Patty Griffin Regina Spektor Goldfrapp Sigur Ros as a start...
  10. http://www.ibiblio.org/tkan/audio/dynahi.html I think that the only notable improvement has been folks using a sigma22 for the power supply. And it would be a pretty absurd preamp.
  11. As a 2LiveCrew fan I'm offended. As on who does not listen to pop music I stand by my vote. Given a choice between nothing, the Beatles or the Stones it would be a toss up between the Beatles and nothing. I've heard a lot of the Beatles catalog and what can I say, not much of it does much for me.
  12. I'd go w/ the balanced desktop w/ Home modules before I went single-ended MAX.
  13. This one?
  14. It will always exist, if only in our hearts. And I never voluntarily listen to either. Beatallica is as close as you'll find me.
  15. We've all been there. One of my bigger f-ups was wiring the output of the first balanced amp wrong and not only cooking the headphones (thankfully just KSC75s) but the amp managed to blow itself up as well. I think there were other issues with the amp to begin with (flawed, untested design) but even the second one I built only lasted a half hour before it fried itself as well. Nothing like flushing $400+ down the toilet.
  16. I think you'll find the poll agreeable.
  17. I haven't seen a set of Dynahi boards for sale for a good long time and posty's amp was the one of the few that I've seen listed that I would have felt ok telling someone to buy.
  18. Don't forget to make sure that it's grounded or else it won't shield properly. That's the way to the blackest background, of course you won't get an audio either.
  19. From 0 to 100deg it's never failed to start for me. It might not last the weekend though as someone is coming to look at it on Sunday and if it sells I'll be upgrading. And x2 on "good luck" Jacob, I hope it all works out.
  20. You know what is hilarious? While I was repacking the loudass AC unit my wife started searching online for a replacement. In doing so she found a pretty similiar one at Sears, 3 of the first 10 reviews that she read were from people who had returned the same Frigidaire that I'd bought. Everyone complained about the noise, so it's not just me. Evidently the one Sears carries is much better so here's to hoping that BB doesn't hassle me when I return it tomorrow.
  21. Too bent after f'ing around w/it for 2hrs only to have to return it and do the same thing again tomorrow night...
  22. Uh, yeah, I'd like to be able to sleep in the room since it's my bedroom.
  23. Well, it's a one of a kind - be nice to it. I don't know how much you were told about it but it is 4 strands of Chiimera's CCC wire, configured in two twisted pairs each sleeved in their own 1/8" dia. nylon multifilament. Those two strands are then sleeved in another layer of multifilament. It was pure hell to build it and I would never do it again.
  24. Damn, I didn't realize he sold that!??!?! I would have bought it back I liked it that much. And Vicki just hates the Zu, I don't think she has as strong a dislike for any of the other aftermarket cables. Me, I just bought a Frigidaire 8000BTU AC unit for the bedroom. I'll be returning it tomorrow. Holy fracken crap the thing was as loud as a jet engine. No joke I bet it was a heathy 70db on low, you couldn't hold a conversation in the same room with it.
