  1. I believe that the desktop portable uses the desktop dac module, which is nowhere near the level of sophistication of the Pico.
  2. One might suggest that unless you've got a really good reason to open the chassis that maybe it's a good idea to just leave it alone...
  3. Very nice! Enjoy the weekend and don't sweat the comparisons too much, just enjoy getting to know the new amp.
  4. Sweet Jebus, how expensive a system does one have to own to consider a $6k power supply for your cables??!??
  5. Shipped a few cables, inquired about some parts that I'm looking to buy...
  6. Sometimes, I wear rubber gloves when soldering just to minimize the lead exposure but I've really only started doing that recently in case I have to run upstairs and help w/ Lily. Otherwise I've never bothered with gloves.
  7. I'd wager if you measured the output of that 15V PSU it'd probably be pretty close to 16V so I'm thinking there's something else wrong with the scanner unfortunately.
  8. It's made by the company that Dared buys all of their stuff from (they just rebadge stuff from what I can tell) but it's a bit different. No USB DAC, but switchable inputs and it uses 6V tubes instead of 12V.
  9. I shall now make it my life's work to moderate your posts and add a princess to all of them  I keed, I keed, congrats on the MAC lappy, I do enjoy my little old Powerbook and having now owned one it'll make not having one in the future a tough proposition.
  10. In this case the only reason was that it's essentially a 0 risk adventure. I paid less for the combo than the amp alone has been selling for on Head-Fi.
  11. Nothing specific, no. There have been vague rumblings but with no build time these days it's hard to imagine doing anything about it for the rest of '08.
  12. Stax SRM-1/mk2+ SR Lambda Pro's I'll keep which ever setup I prefer, this or the SRD7/ESP950.
  13. I did a couple of quick searches and it seems that issues after installing this card are not that uncommon, specifically with irq requests and with the card screwing with audio drivers in general. Maybe read all of the thread below but the first solution I saw was to go into the bios and make sure that on-board sound is set to ON and not AUTO. http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/246318-33-audio-problem-install-radeon-3870
  14. Huh, that is weird. I'd try reloading the driver for the sound card section of the mother board. Or go into the video card's GUI and see if there's a way to disable the onboard sound feature.
  15. If you go into the "Sounds and Audio Devices Properties" control panel what is selected as the "Default device" for Sound playback?
  16. Just waiting for Lily to wake back up for her next feeding. Dang I'm tired.
  17. Yeah, that's what I just tried so I guess the issue is officially the RAM.
  18. well, i just tried pulling the stock chip and only installing the 1GB stick that I have, I lasted less than 2 minutes before crashing. On topic, does the MAC mini use the same RAM? I looked online briefly at it appears to, in which case I'd have another kind offer of RAM to try which clearly wouldn't hurt my feelings.
  19. Once more, with feeling...
  20. If you're happy where you're at that's fine. But don't expect those that have heard them out of what they consider to be better sounding rigs to agree that you're getting the most out of them. I do kind of agree w/ Dan though that having redundant, very expensive headphones while the rest of your rig remains pretty budget conscious (or appears to from where I sit) seems a bit unbalanced.
  21. I heard Dan's source was sketchy. My sources turned up pictures of his sources...
  22. That's what I would have thought, but I've read all sorts of stories about Mac's being incompatible with certain types of RAM. Seemed like bullshit to me until I installed this chip and had things go south. Ok, I'll roll the dice and see what happens.
  23. My concern w/ NewEgg is not knowing what qualifies as a reliable choice. Dan, thanks, I'll check those two and see what they have to offer.
  24. Given current SRM prices $750 doesn't seem to bad at all, just out of my current "i have no need for this" price range. At $575 I could try it and still pass on a good deal to the next person in line without losing my shirt.
  25. We'll find out, I sent him an email. I might bite at 575, not at $750 though.
