  1. As soon as I get paypal'ed for the Powerbook I'll order the Macbook. Should be tomorrow.
  2. Is this honestly something worth worrying about or waiting for?
  3. What does it matter what I like? Do you know enough about me to know whether or not that will translate into something that you like? See the root of the problem is that in the end it only really matters what you like. It's not so much that it's vague, only that you're headed in the wrong direction and I'm trying to steer you back.
  4. Given the wide open and extremely vague nature of your question I stand by my analysis. And there wasn't any hostility, granted I didn't give you a warm welcome but I just stated a disappointed observation. So here we go again - every time one of these threads gets started we fire back the same questions. What have you heard before that you liked? What about it did you like? What genre of music do you prefer? What's your budget? etc. etc. etc. etc...
  5. Ehhh, can't really. It's $300 to $500 more than I really want to spend on this which makes no sense since I already have a really nice 15" laptop (Sager). What really pisses me off is that they jack the price of the black Macbook for no good reason. The HD upgrade only accounts for $90 of the $200+ difference.
  6. Woot! Happy Birthday Todd!
  7. I agree here, they're what I use in my soldering rig and sound surprisingly good near field.
  8. I'm betting you didn't read a single thread here before posting this...
  9. Vincent, I think there are at least a couple of 6CG7s that people prefer to the EH's, my memory says RCA clear top is one of them. But I'd wait for the Staxies to weigh in on what works best.
  10. Eh, I've got a Al notebook (powerbook) right now and also a plastic cased lappy, can't say the aluminum is a huge draw for me. Also, I'm not really sure that the refurbs will drop all that much. Apple seems to do a very good job with inventory management and they discounts are pretty deep already (~30%). In fact, I just looked and there's little motivation for me to get a refurb. My wife is a high school guidance counselor so I qualify for the education discount so I might as well get a free Ipod while I'm at it and give it to my sister who was nice enough to give me the Powerbook I have now.
  11. I'm with salty, I used openoffice for PC for a while and it was pretty crappy.
  12. Ok, so it looks like I'll probably be picking up a MacBook shortly. I must admit that I'm torn between waiting 2+ months to see/I] if they do indeed update the line bust honestly, since I'm probably aiming for the bottom of the line the improvements won't matter all that much to me. Am I crazy?
  13. Add to that list - finished populating SSMH prototype and successfully tested it. Also, modified a d-sub hood for another Duet cable.
  14. Built the final set of immoderator cables, installed a M6x1.0 locknut in an amp to tame a wandering trafo and now I'm chilling with the Menace.
  15. It's all on loan from HR for his meet this weekend.
  16. Oh hell no, I'm perfectly content with the level of interest (none) there is in my cables.
  17. I'm sorry, but my services are useless for cutting things in half unless it can be done with a series of round holes.
  18. So tempted to buy it for my office rig...
  19. Furutech Speaker Cables
  20. Got some work done on a project last night, some custom jumpers for a friend's speakers. Each is 4 strands of hand-braided Neotech UPOCC 22ga copper terminated with Furutech banana plugs. The accompanying speaker cables are done, but I won't post pictures of those until the owner sees them.
  21. Thanks, Leeloo has been my girl for almost 8 years now and over 20,000 miles. I think she still cleans up pretty well and she's never let me down.
  22. Yeah, that's cutting things seriously close on the material left around the XLR's. So much so I wonder if FPE will agree to fabricate it.
  23. First thing this morning it was this: Then there was a bit of this:
  24. It may depend on the Melos but I was looking at buying one and got a chance to audition it at a meet before purchase. Needless to say I did not end up buying it. It had no of the famed synergy with Grados that I hear preached about incessantly on HF and seemed like a bad deal even for $300.
  25. Just taking time off from work, but doing some fun stuff too. Hopefully there will be a trip to the beach in the next couple of days. Today I started off with a short trip on the m'cycle to meet an old college buddy for breakfast on campus (he still works there). I also took a quick detour on the way home to stop by one of my favorite places to go while I was at UNH. There is a Marine Lab located on Great Bay that is open to the public. I swung by for a quick photo, I'll upload it later and post it somewhere.
