Happy Birthday!

Ok, knowing that you've got more tools that you don't have to buy you've got a lot more options. The first two that I'd recommend: 1. As mentioned the Millett Starving Student Hybrid. It'll teach you to read a schematic which is a skill you need, even if you don't want it. 2. Pimeta - by Tangent - not sure about the whole buffer situation these days but it used to be able to be done for ~$100 and makes a great portable or desktop amp depending on how you choose to build it. And you can't beat his documentation. And while you're at it you should just head over to Tangent's site, read everything that you can and watch all the videos. Start here.

Cost is a slight issue? Honestly, including tools I don't think you stand much of a chance with that budget. Assuming you have nothing (since all you mentioned was the iron) you'll need a drill, drill bits, solder, cutters, wire strippers, wire, and I'm sure some other stuff I'm forgetting. Now even if you go super cheap with that stuff you'll likely eat up half your budget or more and that's if you can source it all locally and avoid shipping charges. So if we're left with $50 about the only thing you can build for that is a Cmoy which doesn't seem to fit with your "I don't want a learning experience" mantra. About the only thing that you could build outside of an amp would be cables, which actually could be done within your budget since it would limit the number of tools that you'd need and the supplies are much easier to source.

No Duets in '08...

Probably, I'll have a look tonight and see if I've got two of them.

Ahh got it. I've never been bumped like Ian and I would have thought there would have been days where I was over 10GB, but maybe not.

Download limit? I don't think there's any such thing, I exceed that all that time. Now if that's referring to the amount that others can download from your account I'm not sure, I've never allowed much access to the content I've uploaded. Are you just uploading this for short term sharing?

Congrats Vincent! My last purchase was a 2.4GHz MacBook.

I'm with Todd here, the SB3 is great as a transport but just average as a source. So depending on the rest of your rig it may or may not be the bottleneck.

I lust for the Harbeths. I really, really should have traded my wadia for a pair when I had the chance.

MacHeads- Impending MacBook Purchase

Called, confirmed, ordered. -
I've held off even thinking about a twisted pear purchase until they get their stock levels sorted. I really want them to finish and release the uber controller (new Joshua Tree) so I can use it in my balanced beta22 build.

MacHeads- Impending MacBook Purchase

I know, I'm really tempted by the MBP until I look at what it'd cost for what I'd really want. Then I realize I have the powerhouse lappy already taken care of so I might as well fill a different "need" with the regular macbook. And I enjoyed the powerbook and really don't need to replace it. It just occurred to me that given the ridiculous resale value coupled with the rather large education discounts available right now that I might actually be able to sell it and move up to a 5yr newer, way more powerful model for a few hundred bucks. I'm going to stretch that just slightly to get the 2.4GHz, 2GB whitebook (ugh) and really that's enough for now. If in 3 years or so I've really liked having the macbook I can see moving to a MBP. [edit]and it appears that any education purchase qualifies for the free ipod, not just the college folks. I'm going to call tonight to verify that and if so will be ordering a new MB instead of a refurb tomorrow. -

It's a second, non essential laptop. Hard to justify over spending on it only to get something that wouldn't be as powerful as my current 15" lappy. And actually, I think it'll be nice to have one lappy that's more portable. The idea that I'm buying one at all is pretty excessive. -

Yeah, I just don't have another $350 to throw at this. -
Dang, how'd we miss this earlier!?!? Happy Birthday Indra, I can't wait to pick up the picture tomorrow!

I'll give myself tonight to agonize over it while I'll wipe the HD on the Powerbook and reinstall OS-X. My only real concern with the regular macbook is the shared video ram aspect. Although given what I think this lappy with be used for it's probably not an issue. -

Wuhoo! I've been paid for the Powerbook, time for final waffling on which macbook config to get. The only thing really killing me is the refurb 2.2GHz MBP for $1449... -

Yeah, I'm psyched but waffling between buying new or refurb. With the education discount the price difference is very small. And I can't decide whether or not to tell half-truth and get the free 8gb Touch.
