  1. Wuhoo, Macbook in the house. It's very nice.
  2. 2-channel you might, might make it at $500 if you used a single chassis and by doing so you risk trafo induced hum. 3-ch figure $700+. And those would be barebones cheapass parts builds. And figure it taking you ~40hrs or so to build it. I think thrice is crazy for doing it for as little as he charges. You lost me, I'll have to reread everything later.
  3. No, you couldn't, trust me on this. 2 or 3 is fine, I've never tried to figure out which I prefered. And no, I can't think of a good reason to use the balanced outputs unless the 840 does something crappy to create the single ended signal.
  4. So the 21 would be, like, nearly twice as good right?
  5. My first thought was that all the mastering in the world won't fix crappy material.
  6. There's also the very real question of when he'd be able to do it. Far as I know he's still working on the last batch and hasn't opened up the ordering process again. Also, since it seems unclear, does the OP want single-ended or balanced?
  7. Run away, Jacob, run away.
  8. What are you talking about?
  9. shill it's the new MOT doncha know...

  11. I'm not sure I hate them, but I'm not a fan.
  12. I can tell you one thing for damn sure, there's no way they'll get me to pay for this one without listening first. St Anger remains one of the few CD's that I listened to once and then never again. It was truly terrible.
  13. It can be configured with different modules to accept just about anything you can think of (coax, optical, usb, whatever) and yes, it'll do balanced straight out of the gate.
  14. Why use an IEC with a built in switch when you've got another front panel mounted switch? I try to use as small an IEC as possible these days since it's always the most annoying hole to cut. And while you're at it, I'd switch all those back panel connectors for black units, but that's just my personal preference.
  15. Just a quick note/hint for Touch users - I just discovered this last week, it's probably old hat for everyone else - regardless of what app you're in (notes, web, maps, etc.) if you double tap the home button it brings up a small menu that allows you to change track up or down, pause, adjust the volume and even go directly to the music app. I find myself using it all the time now that I've found it.
  16. Homemade blueberry cobbler and vanilla ice cream, yum!
  17. Seems weird to put a random passive preamp in the same box doesn't it? If it were me I'd prefer to just have a loop out option or something like that.
  18. Funny, that makes far less sense to me. Why would you double the attenuation unless one wasn't providing a sufficient number of steps, but that's hard to believe with a digital stepper.
  19. I think this thread has run its course.
  20. Wait. I know this one. Hold on, I've almost got it. Emmmm, errrrrrr, shoot it's right there... Got it! Step 3. Profit
  21. I finished a Gainclone to replace (temporarily at least) the Beta22 that I sent out last week. Soldering without tunes = fail. Now, how long it'll take me to cure the ground loop hum in the GC who knows, but for now it's functional enough to get the job done in the basement where ambient noise levels will cover my mistakes nicely.
  22. Twas a joke, Pete. If that thing ever tips over it won't be the fault of the stand.
