I want something super low profile, and custom are the only way to get that. Regular IEMs are bad enough, add custom tips and they usually get even worse in terms of how much projects out beyond your ear.

Yeah, that should be great on the tractor. We're not looking for just any portable solution, the question is about custom IEMs.

Yeah, I can't find shit either. But for me it's not that big a deal really since odds are I'll be using them in an environment with so much ambient noise that the hiss will be the least of my worries.

If you have both amps on at the same time your source will have to drive both at the same time and that could cause problems depending on the abilities of the source's output stage.

I'm not as much concerned about impedance as I am with sensitivity. Where are you guys finding specs for the Livewires? I must have missed them if they're on the site.

As usual, I prefer to make my own. As far as signal degradation is concerned the guy who I built those for claimed there was none. And he doesn't exactly have a crappy rig.

With Freq being out of the picture for the time being does anyone here have experience with the Livewires product. Their webpage leaves a lot to be desired but they seem to be the next affordable custom IEM after the Freq lineup.

Sounds like a pretty big shakeup, despite the "it's all for the best" tone of the email they are sending to customers. The full email has been posted on head-fi, long story short they aren't accepting orders until next year. I'm not interested in waiting. For me it's while I mow, while I ride, while I snow blow, etc, etc, so it's not hard to justify a little bit of money thrown that way. Basically, the only time I used closed headphone is in a pretty damn noisy environment and also when an over the ear design wouldn't work. IEMs or customs are the best choice.

Of course, just having read that Freq just closed their doors for the rest of the year leaves me with less options than I'd hoped for regarding customs.

Nothing too crazy, just sick of popping etys in and out, changing tips, changing filters, having the barrels rub on whatever hat/helmet I'm wearing.

Ear Impressions

Just figured I'd follow up on this. My shipment of plugs showed up from Parts Express today and they're the exact same plug as the previous generation Pro-Fi. No changes at all. So maybe the next gen plugs are still a ways off?

It's funny, with all of the advancements in DSLR bodies and the fact that they churn out a new model every 9 months or so I can't help but wonder just what the hell their business model is (both Cannon and Nikon). Me, personally, at this point I'd love to sell my D80 body and move to a used D2H. The 4MP sensor is plenty unless you're doing 10' wall sized murals and the idea of a 20+MP sensor and shooting RAW with something like that is dumbfounding. Imagine the fricken storage and processing capacity that you'll need to manipulate a 50MB image file. That's just plain stupid in my book.
