I'm lusting after a Macbook Pro. Right now I wish I could sell both my laptops and just get a single MBP but I'd take a beating on both so it's going to have to be 5 years or so before I get to realize that dream.
I don't get the Air really, sure it's light but the battery life isn't great and the lack of an optical drive is a real turnoff. Maybe if they improve it in the next generation I'll like it more but for now I'd pass.
No, what I'm saying is that he's way better off selling them as a private individual as compared to offering them through the business. That way he doesn't have to declare the sale as either income or profit for the business.
How bad would it look to use counter-sunk fasteners through the front panel and avoid the whole headache? Me, I like fasteners so I don't mind it when they're exposed sometimes if they serve a clear purpose. Granted, I think I was the one that suggested using blind taps in a thread somewhere around here.
Bottom line, maybe it's worth a call to FPE to see what they think about the hole depth vs. fastener size? They're the experts.
I'm not a lawyer, I just play one on the internet!
I always found it just a bit shady that you had to buy a special dock (regardless of who made it) in order to use the later-gen Imods. It just struck me as a) slightly dangerous since from the outside there's no real way to tell if you're looking at an Imod or not and the added cost was not insignificant.
Why only 2.5mm? Is it to accommodate other panel mounted accessories? If so, I'd be nervous about having less than 2mm of thread depth. That might be enough to get two or three threads on a 4-40 screw but I wonder how many turns you'd get with a blind tap? That'd be one of those things I'd want to test before ordering an entire (expensive) panel. It might be easier to provide recessed areas for panel mounted components that can't handle a thicker panel.
So far everyone is ignoring the obvious point - private sales through ebay are easily not reported as taxable income for either the business or individual or requiring sales tax to be paid. That makes them even more valuable.
FYI - Welborne Labs is having a 2-day, 20% off sale. I recently ordered some stuff from them to see if they'd gotten their act back together. Service was decent, I even got an email response when I asked about shipping status. So maybe they've righted the ship, maybe I got lucky, I'm hopeful.
