  1. Ouch.
  2. Sure you can, but in this case we have: 2x 159ZG (15MH/4A choke) = $27.89/ea from Digikey 2x 157L (14H/75MA choke) = $26.16/ea from Digikey That's all I spot so far, I'm guessing the big iron is on the top side of the PS.
  3. And lowly Hammonds at that.
  4. Not really, I just think you're setting yourself up to fail. Does it really not have enough range if you set the GS-X at the middle range of the pot and vary the volume with the DAC3?
  5. I know, but that doesn't make it any less absurd. Since most balanced amps are going to already have twice the gain of their single ended counterpart it makes little sense to me to couple that higher-gain with a higher output source. I already struggle with a lack of adjustment range.
  6. It's listed as an accessory so maybe? If he doesn't require a remote I'd probably run the DAC3 at maximum output and use the amp to attenuate/amplify provided that it didn't overload the input of the GSX and cause it to clip as a result. The output of the DAC3 is a somewhat absurd 4.5V from the balanced outputs.
  7. The real question is why are you listening with no source attached?

    Eh wot?

Congratulations on your promotion to Head-Case webmaster?
  9. Indeed it does.
  10. At 15' it might exceed the cost of the 501s.
  11. Just figured I'd throw out what I remembered on the off chance it was useful. Sounds like it isn't an issue.
  12. Wouldn't the 220V taps be rated for less current since typically the secondaries are rated for the same current regardless of input voltage? I guess what I'm getting at is that if you have a 12V/1A secondary the primaries would be 120V/.1A and 220V/0.05A, or something like that, right? I might have this all wrong, if so, please feel free to tell me. I feel like an atheist preaching about God right now.
  13. It's an untested, unfinished design so I'd rather not float it out there for public consumption. I'll host it somewhere and shoot you a PM.
  14. I've heard of it being done before and I seem to remember something about paying careful attention to the amount of current that you try and output. But this is all a very fuzzy memory of a conversation long forgotten.
  15. Ok, my experience is that it's more right than wrong and fine for just about any internet based argument. What do you expect, original documented research? It's your favorite whipping boy, I get it.
  16. FYI - there's one on head-fi for $620 shipped.
  17. Well of course I can, but this makes two in less than a month. Saturate much?
  18. They get to sell moar pads that way?
  19. I love how the guy takes the value of 2 of the 50 or so components and calls it the total... epic:palm:
  20. You must read some pretty factually accurate comics, Dan. It's not always right, but it's not always wrong either. You just like to rail against it.
  21. I can't believe Ray is building yet another portable amp. Otherwise, looks like it was a great meet and there was plenty of fun to be had.

    Deals

Wife needs new gym phones, thanks!
  23. In my experience the midlevel upgrade from apple isn't that bad a deal. Pushing the upgrades to the extreme did seem like a bad deal.
  24. Ahhhh, you're probably right.
