Further research indicates that these might have been a special order since the website has nothing on them. I got a data sheet ASC and these are "NON-INDUCTIVE WOUND METALLIZED POLYPROPYLENE" for whatever that's worth.

Ok, ok, ok, so I should be working on other stuff but I made an interesting discovery this weekend. When the power is off, you can still use a battery powered drill and hand operated tools like chassis punches and such. So, with that in mind I figured the chassis fab on the simpleSE was about the only thing that I could actually get some work done on. You should have seen the look on Lily's face when she found out I was working on it again, oh wait, I got it on film... Anyway, so I got 99% of the chassis fab done this weekend and decided tonight, as the lights started to go on and off again that I'd install everything and see what the results looked like. I'm pretty happy with how things came out, there are a few things I'd love to have done better but with the tubes installed you'll never see them. Shot From Front Shot From Back And just a couple quick shots of the capacitors that I got in today, which literally dwarf the caps that I'm using on the Simple. The caps on the simple are roughly the size of a can of Coke for real world scale. Simple Cap on Left, Big Dog Cap on Right. Oh That's Right, they have built in mounting hardware! Not sure when I'll get to temp wire the Simple and test it out since I still plan on painting the chassis to cover at least some of my sins of fabrication. Maybe this weekend if mother nature doesn't decide to stick it to me again.

FYI - avoid buy.com like the plague. I just spent a half hour on hold trying to find out where the hell the digital picture frame that I ordered two weeks ago is (paid for 3 day shipping no less). Turns out it was back ordered but they didn't send out email notices because they were still looking for a vendor to fill the order. Then they proceeded to bend me over and tell me that refunding my canceled order will take an additional 3 to 5 business days. So I canceled and filed a paypal dispute just to drive the point home that I don't appreciate the BS. Grr f'ing grr.

The label on mine says: GLY513 600MFD +/- 10% 500 VDC 0446 And specifically states that it was manufactured in the USA. But for what I paid I'm sure they'll be just fine. What is hilarious is that evidently the ebay seller was running a buy 2 get 1 free special so when I ordered 4 I got 6. Maybe I'll use 2 of them in a CMoy or something.

In my opinion, and I'm pretty picky, the Macbook fans aren't loud at all even when fully spun up. I game on my Macbook (to the extent possible) and when it winds up it's still barely audible without headphones on. With even open headphones on I can't hear a thing.

I got up this morning and cleaned out the fridge (thankfully it was pretty empty anyway) and figured I drive over to the local dodo's for some coffee (no cream in house). 2 miles away there's still no power and some roads are still closed with wires and tress across them. So I count myself very lucky to be cozy right now. Nice purchase Jack, I too will be curious to see what you end up thinking of it compared to 840C.
