Last thought for this thread (start a new one if you want to continue this line of banter) - if it's that hard to enjoy the music and that hard to differentiate the various sounds I'm going to go ahead and blame the music, not the equipment.

If you really feel that way about all those headphones I'd say there's either something Fail about the music or the rest of your setup. Or you're so picky in your search for the holy grail that you'll never be happy.

I doubt it, they only need/want two connections at each cup and the third pin there just adds bulk and confusion.

Is the HD in AppleTV user replaceable?

Can you run apple TV as a stand alone device? I thought it had to be connected to something even if you were storing everything on it locally?

I'm honestly betting that the street price (after an initial period of high demand) will probably drop much closer to $1000. But in the beginning, expect to pay pretty close if not MSRP for the privilege of early adoption. I know Headroom has been selling all of their D7000s at near list price because demand is high and they are one of the few with actual headphones to sell.

Well, the HD800 appears to have been powerful enough to knockout Head-Fi for the time being. The site slowed to a crawl last night, was worse this morning and I get nothing but timeouts now.

Perhaps the first thing to do would be to see if someone might be willing to offer some pro bono legal advice and discuss your options and potential liabilities if you pursue something outside of small claims court. And small claims court is right up there next to worthless in some cases. My company has several outstanding judgements and while there are warrants issued for the individuals the local LEO's have far better things to do than track these guys down. So it's something like once every couple months there's an appearance date, the jackasses don't show, get served, post bond (we get a portion of this, but have to pay a fee to get them served IIRC), rinse, repeat, ad nauseum. I'm not trying to be discouraging and in truth am hoping for a positive outcome on all sides, Mikhail included. Recent evidence just isn't trending that way.

Denon D7000? Grado GS1000? Ultrasone? There're definitely similarly priced dynamic cans out there.
