  1. My 2¢, the fence is likely to cause accuracy and repeatability issues but I, like Naaman, welcome its use as a dust collection element so I usually leave it backed off just a touch to make sure that I'm getting solid contact with the bearing on the bit. I've definitely had to run pieces through multiple times when dust built up along the fence or a little chip of wood got in the way.
  2. Got back out for a longer ride today, on packed snow it's a total blast. On loose stuff, not so much (as expected). Really looking forward to riding these trails in the spring on this thing.
  3. Initial testing this morning went very well. Conditions aren't ideal but were good enough for some fun.
  4. Are they going to be honest and just call in the Tracker?
  5. I'll swap the wheels this weekend for the ones with the studded tires already mounted on them, but the COVID hardtail project is complete(ish). I probably need new brake pads but I'll deal with honky brakes for a little while.
  6. Another 3-6" of snow headed my way early next week. Storms of that size can roll in all they want since they're manageable, just spare me the foot+ nonsense and I'll keep quiet.
  7. I think laser table technology has advanced considerably in the last 50+ years.
  8. Very nice, but am I the only one somewhat annoyed that he left the front lip of the middle cover proud of the two sides? Had to be an intentional aesthetic choice but not one I can understand. And freakin' sweet, Naaman. Time to make that ping pong table pay for itself?
  9. Happy Birthday, Jeff. Here's to hoping it's a day filled with smashing sticks instead of heads.
  10. I mounted the studded MTB tires yesterday and went for a snow shoe in the afternoon to try to help pack the local trails. 😁
  11. It would appear that we've turned a corner and are now in proper winter mode for the foreseeable future. Snow tomorrow (4-6"), more Tuesday (~3") and then the possibility of a major storm at the end of next week. Not complaining, if it's going to be winter it might as well really be winter.
  12. There should be adapters available to accommodate different diameters. Even on my 2018 Scott Genius it runs post mount adapters to mate up with 180mm discs which were the default standard by that point. Same with the 2015 frame that I'm working on building up now and one of the reasons I haven't been able to get it wrapped up this week. The adapters and new brake lines should be at my house when I get home so with a little luck I'll drop the bike off at my shop mid next week for a thorough check over to make sure I don't die the first time I ride it.
  13. ^^^ If you want a track-based blower I'd recommend the Honda. A friend has one and loves it. We ended up with right around a foot of snow, on the heavier side, so I was glad to have a high-functioning snow blower. The windrow at the end of the driveway would have been a back breaker. Still not looking forward to dealing with the decks this weekend after the predicted rain Friday but there's no time to shovel them between now and Friday AM.
  14. I think about it like I think about most things these days, there are both lots of right ways to do something and most definitely more than one way to do it wrong. Some days I take a walk just to talk a walk. Could I traverse that path more quickly with a car, sure, but that would kind of defeat the purpose. I have yet to find a machine in my shop that can do its job without my input, therefore my thoughts, skills, etc., are still an integral part of the process and for me can result in a satisfying project.
  15. About 6" on the ground now so we're into the inch-an-hour territory of the storm. Predicted totals are still in the 10-18" range and I'm guessing we'll get ~12".
  16. Started to snow in earnest around 5:30 and we've gotten a couple inches so far. We'll see how the night goes.
  17. ^^^ I feel like the most relevant discussion that this thread needs is confirmation that one of your wives has compromised hearing.
  18. Tip for the future, in case this isn't what you did to fix it, but if you're v-carving and finding that you aren't getting a "bold" enough result a quick attempt at a fix is to simply cheat Z zero down a bit (experiment, it's easy to go too deep in a hurry) and then rerun that section of the program. I've found it works acceptably well without butchering the tapered sections. One other option is to rerun the program with a 90d V as opposed to a 60d, but that only works if your first effort was with a 60d bit.
  19. Well, winter weather is now truly upon us with temps barely breaking double digits this weekend and a foot or so of the whiteness predicted for tomorrow. So I've gotten busy building up the snow rig and despite a few hiccups it's actually going ok. New brake hoses are required to replace the ones that came with the slightly used brakes I bought (too short) then just a shifter cable housing and some brake caliper adapters are all that's really missing. A friend has some basic SPD's that I'll use for now and I'm pretty sure I've got a spare saddle to throw at it. Hopefully all the bits still arrive this week and I've got a message into my local shop to give it a thorough looking over before I start riding. I'm hoping to have it on the trails in two weeks or so and the inbound snow should make for some entertaining rides w/ the studded tires.
  20. TLDR - did you honestly add 30 tags to this post?
  21. i don't know, that knife looks capable of doing some serious damage to sticks.
  22. Thankfully the do not show any snow in NH on that map so I am going to assume that I get nothing. Oh wait, my phone just alerted me to a winter storm warning... 🤦🏻‍♂️
  23. You know what, fuck you Apple. https://www.macrumors.com/2021/01/28/macbook-pro-no-more-dongles/
  24. Nice, Naaman! I've been meaning to have a serious go at inlay work given my skills at CAD - since the software that does it automatically is out of my price range - but haven't gotten there yet. Someday... For now I'm too distracted by my stick-smashing project. Headset, stem, and spacers arrive this week so I got the cockpit mocked up. Ignore the stick smasher in the background that currently serves as a workbench and beer holder.
