I am of the opinion that it is a bad idea to look for an amp to drive both headphones and speakers. Unless you want the binding posts for the K1ks or something like that?
That might work, sure. You'd need a bunch of fairly specific cables but otherwise what it means is that the skipjack keeps all grounds separate throughout the switching process. That's pretty unique in my experience.
No, you'd have lost half the information going through the switchbox so it would not be a simple feat to recreate the lost half. It really wouldn't be hard to build a balanced switch box though.
Assuming the balanced output stage of the DAC is the better one that's how I would do it. It is worth checking how each output is developed, for example on the Hertsens the SE output is essentially just half the XLR output (the in phase portion) so there should be no difference between taking the SE output from the RCA jacks or using XLR to RCA cables. But some DAC's have a great balanced output stage but then run that signal through add'l circuitry to create the SE output. In that case I'd probably use XLR to RCA cables.

Seems to be the case and the release date is set for 9/15, allegedly you can start pre-ordering today through Amazon. It looks pretty decent too.
You be quiet, you.
Who says I'm trying to lose it?
And I'm nowhere near smart enough to duplicate, not to mention improve upon, that design so why bother?
Al,
I aired the cases out a bit before using them. Seemed to help a bit with the smell but I agree, they are not odor free.
Me: I sat through a 3hr meeting that should have taken 1.
