I'm thinking about something like this, specifically for why I'd look at floor standers. Paradigm Reference Studio 60 - eBay (item 230375319075 end time Sep-10-09 08:56:21 PDT) I forgot to add to my previous post that my advice for any college student would be to make sure that whatever it is that you buy you don't mind getting a scuff or two, water ring or whatever. It's an apartment, shit happens, buy the good stuff later in life when there's at least a chance that you'll have better control over the environment. and this is exactly what I have in my HT rig, they are very musical. I searched quite a while before deciding on them (8 years ago or so) and have never been disappointed. http://cgi.ebay.com/PARADIGM-MONITOR-7-SPEAKERS-Vs-2-TOWERS_W0QQitemZ320421534021QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item4a9a9c9945&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14
  2. Didn't gmail have some huge crash last week? I wonder if there are still ghosts in the machine?

I know you say you're looking for monitors but why? Because you have to move them every once in a while? Moving monitors and stands will be every bit as much hassle as a single tower would be and I think in terms of bang for buck and good sound you might be limiting yourself arbitrarily. Given your budget there should be a ton of good choices for floor standers and well, you wouldn't have to worry about stands.
  4. First and only warning. Don't go around bumping old threads with your 2
  5. That sucks Vicki, please accept my condolences. And glad to hear that the cat showed up Dread.
  6. I always hated that. And more often than not the dupes could be traced to playlist files, erasing those often seemed to cure the dupe issue although did require a complete library rescan.
  7. Anna Ternheim -- Leaving on a Mayday This is a fracken great disc in my book. I've been enjoying the hell out of it since Al posted it a while back. Sort of in the same vein as Bat for Lashes.
  8. Started making something fun, yes, didn't finish anything yet though. I'm hoping to log some time on it this week so pics may be coming sooner rather than later for once. Wish I could say the same. In late-day activities I managed to dust of the mountain bike and take it for a brief spin around town. Felt good.
  9. Fired up the lathe for the first time in a long time. Also thought about resurrecting my Millett Hybrid, not sure I'm up for another trip down that road though.

I fully expected that movie not to be real when I plugged it into IMDB. I can't believe that someone green-lighted that, nor can I believe that any actor agreed to do it. Holy shit.
  11. Wow Stetch, that would be sweet. Negotiations to commence via PM.
  12. I'd like a subforum subforum where we can discuss various subfori. On a serious not I'd really like to find some super small profile rear channels for my HT rig. They will be wall mounted (in-wall is not an option) so ideally I'd like to find something about the size of the little Bose cubes. I'm tired of not having rear channels.
  13. Damn Al, just damn. I'd offer to build it but I'm going to go out on a limb and say you'll want someone more skilled.
  14. While I like the new album it has yet to grab me like some of her other work has.
  15. I bought this a while ago, but since I hadn't used it I decided not to post about it. It's a Fancourt soldering rig, basically a big rack to mount PCBs and make soldering them a much easier process. I'm a big fan. The solder junkies on this forum will wee themselves just a bit. And big thanks to the guy who helped me find one, he knows who he is.

    Dang, that sucks Andy.
  17. Nice, that is a very cool option for sure.
  18. Don't say I didn't warn you about this.
  19. I guess that you can't take the compy out since it's always been the case that you had to be running the slim server software in order to manage the library contents. I can't imagine that going away with the release of one specific product.
  20. You should ask, yes. I won't pretend to know enough to tell you that either component would be 100% ok after the mixed up line voltage setting.
  21. So you're actively seeking etch and grain? If that's the case I'm not sure I can help. The most strident amp I can recall is a PPA V2 with AD8610 opamps, you might look for one of those. It's an often over-looked amp in my opinion and every bit as good as the M
  22. This thread is a wonderful example of over-use of broad generalizations.
