Where's the "go whitey" version of the site?
  2. Dear Mr. Monkey, We recently learned of the trouble that you are having integrating your new DAC into your home. We at the Humane DAC Society can help. We understand that sometimes DACs don't work with families and that's where we come in. For a modest fee we can place any of your existing DAC's into good, loving homes and make sure that they receive the kindness and affection they deserve. If we can be of assistance with this matter please don't hesitate to call us at 1-800-SAVE-DAC.
  3. Of course you can, join the group!

  5. Outstanding work!
  6. Shit Boo, sorry to hear that.
  7. Did you pick up a third on vacation Stretch?
  8. Well, I wasn't really planning on doing that at all. I was just messing around trying to catch the ever-illusive bolt of lightning, I have a thing for lightning. It wasn't until I was scrolling through the images on my laptop that I had the idea to string them together. It was just kind of lucky that I had that many shot at the same aperture/shutter so they fit.
  9. Here, let's see if this works. edit - it's only playing about half the sequence, but you get the idea of how fast stuff was going by.
  10. I found a similar tutorial for making the movie in iMovie and the bottom line is that :03 is too slow, I need something in the :01 range which is too low. And making the sequence last longer won't help since the frame rate will actually be slower by making identical frames out of the same image. Thankfully a bit better googling by me turned up a freeware program called FramebyFrame which is pretty cool and easy to use. I've made the little 2 second movie and uploaded it to youtube. It's listed as "processing" so I'll check either later or tomorrow morning to see if it goes live. edit - unfortunately Peter there's no lightning in the video, just the clouds rolling by over a period of about 10 minutes (compressed into 2 seconds).
  11. Thanks for the compliments, it was pretty wild to see it live. And no, I don't think that's Bill, just typical summer T-storms.
  12. If he's smart he won't agree to build one for anyone at a price below $10k (minimum). This is not Head-Fi, he can charge whatever the frack he wants here.
  13. Got home from work and the sky wasn't looking too friendly. Around 7pm we started to hear thunder in the distance and by 7:30 it was flashing pretty regularly and the sky was looking nasty. That picture doesn't really tell the story very well since it's a 5 second exposure. This is a little better, just 10 minutes later, stopped way down. The sky was routinely lighting up but I was unable to really capture that. 5 minutes later it started to get really interesting. A crop of the last one Shortly thereafter my wife made it clear that I should get inside. Good thing she did since within minutes the sky opened up and it absolutely poured for 15 minutes or so. Now if I could find a program that would let me stitch 20 or so jpgs into a short movie I'd upload a sequence of 10 second exposures that I took. I tried iMovie but it'll only let me go down to .3 seconds which isn't fast enough.
  14. There's a pretty sweet ESP-950/SRM-MKI deal on head-fi right now.
  15. Congrats. I can has sammich?
  16. I'll never own another black car either. My Jetta GLX was black and it was like a daily kick in the nuts with how easily it showed dirt, scratches and the eventual $2k worth of sap damage that it had. The only good thing was that it somehow had a tan leather interior, I've never seen another like it. Still, never again. Silver or metallic gray are the first choices followed up by gray-blues. Not that I'll be shopping for a car before 2015 anyway and by then they will all fly anyway and shoot rainbows out of fake exhaust pipes.

  18. I'm wondering why DVD upscaling is even really in the discussion? I mean over time it's a format that is going to die, even TV shows are being released in BR. And I've watched DVDs on my PS3 on my 42" set and while it is unquestionably not the same as a BR disc it's not objectionable to me. I'm pretty happy with how it upscales lossy downloaded files as well, certainly way better than my old D-link media server ever did. Perhaps I'm just not that picky about video quality? I do wish they'd get cracking on the whole Netflix streaming option.
  19. Waaaaaaaaaay too fiddly in my book. The GS Hybrid looks like a nice car, but I'm not sure any of the current-production hybrids are really any better for the environment as a whole despite the fact that they may help reduce the amount of gas that you buy.

  21. Audi's standard warranty on new vehicles appears to be pretty comprehensive and is 4yr/50k.
  22. The kids are gone, right?
  23. Heh, my love for them persists but my desire to own one is gone. I would never own another VW/Audi that was not covered by a low-deductible comprehensive warranty. It seems you either get a bulletproof one or a near lemon, no inbetween. And nice office rig Mike!
  24. Happy Birthday!
  25. Pretty sure, yes.
