  1. Happy Birthday!
  2. I don't think the idea is about "better" when it comes to ebooks it's about being good enough at that one task and vastly superior at many others.
  3. A week ago I heard, and largely agreed with, that Amazon would be a huge fan of the iPad since up to that point it really hadn't seemed like Amazon wanted to be in the Kindle business. Given the events and actions of the week following the iPad announcement it would seem I was very much in the wrong.
  4. I often listen to the "Live Ireland" radio station on my SB3 while I work in the DIY lab. The quality is horrid, but I like the music so what can you do? I think it's streamed at a jaw dropping 56kbps.
  5. I'll try to get a few pics up soon, they look as one would expect them to so there really isn't much to show. Initial musings... fit is pretty good although the left earpiece, which at first felt better than the right seems to actually fit a little worse and cause slight discomfort after it's removed but oddly not while wearing them. I wore them for a couple of 1hr+ stretches this weekend and didn't have any issues during use, but on Sunday my left ear canal was a little sore. I want to give this a little time before assuming a re-fit will be necessary since my ears and I are new to customs and I could be part of the problem. Sound quality wise the review is mixed. I had no real listening time with the original TF10 so I can't compare but my impression so far is that they are considerably more laid back than my ER4Ps. I'm one of those people who never had an issue with how the Etys sounded on the top end so right now I do kind of feel like something is missing up there. We'll see how that goes as I aclimate to this particular presentation. I can say that they have pretty decent low end, not bloated or flabby and certainly in greater quantity compared to the Etys. I guess so far what I'd say is that given the $200ish price point that these represent to me I'm very pleased but if I'd say, dropped the MSRP of $400 on the TF10s and then another $100 getting them refitted I probably wouldn't feel the same way.
  6. You're not alone.
  7. Yup, that would be the correct part number. Or course neither Mouser or Digikey carries it, in fact Mouser lists it as obsolete. What I'd really like to find now is the X version fuse drawer, since that appears to be the only real difference between the X and S parts. I spoke with Digikey, they don't carry it.
  8. I'm not so sure about that. I think it'll largely depend on how many early adopters there are and I for one have no idea how many of these they'll sell in the first 6 mo or so compared to how many iPhones/Touches there are already out there. It's not like iPhone sales are dropping off a cliff either and they'll likely prop those sales numbers up with at least updated firmware or the rumored V4 phone itself (OLED, etc).
  9. Lily's daycare would closed today (provider's daughter was sick) so I'm home playing daddy daycare. She'll go down for a nap in 20 minutes or so and then I'll get to work trying to finish up the Ventus preamp project.
  10. Here's a crappy update, turns out that the Corcom modules that I bought are not what I was looking for. While they have a "voltage selector" the type of setup it is intended to be used with "jumper type applications"? What the eff is up with that? If I wanted jumpers I'd use jumpers... Pretty pissed off right now as I can't see anyway to adapt these and get them to work as I'd hoped.
  11. I saw that live last night (on TV anyway), it was a pretty funny moment.
  12. Vicki is in fact a lady, however grawk, who you quoted is most certainly a dude.
  13. I'm with you on that one. Fidelity is already compromised in my office setting with phones ringing, computers humming, office mates yacking, etc. I don't notice the handful of FLAC's amongst all my MP3s. Oh, the horror.
  14. So I ordered these thinking that they were going to be New Stock as listed on the website and what showed up were clearly used pulls complete with solder on them and bits of wire. Not a big deal for my purposes but still, don't tell me they're going to be new if they aren't. I called Electronic Surplus this morning and they were very easy to deal with and said they'd look into it and if new ones are available they'll send me them and if not they will contact me to arrange something else. This is the second instance of great customer service I've had in the last 2 days. Also, if I get the replacements I'll send out a couple of the used pulls to interested parties.
  15. My yells at me on a weekly basis to get rid of mine. She calls the DIY lab "The Hatch".
  16. Go with your gut, file a dispute on the first transaction, and contact ebay. The guy sounds like a fraud.
  17. Woke up with Lily and made blueberry pancakes and sausage for breakfast for the family. Mmmm, sausage.
  18. Feel free to use these. n_maher's Album: smileys
  19. I bet that setup is cheap.
  20. Yup. The hope/plan is to build a large one to sit on my soldering table to hold that rig. We'll see how it goes.
  21. Yesterday 1 sheet of 1/2" baltic birch plywood, cut into 16" x 48" pieces, which I then ripped down to 14" wide shelves 50 1/2" nuts 100 1/2" washers 8 1/2" x 12" pieces of all thread Today we'll find out if I can actually make anything out of this.
  22. I did, I've just been pretty busy this weekend and haven't had a chance to do much with them. The fit and finish seem good, so all signs point to being very happy with the purchase.
  23. Who do trust to have better ability to protect your data, some integral Windows firewall or a server farm that has a vested interest in keeping your data secure? I'd wager my home computer is 10x more vulnerable than most cloud setups so unless you're keeping your data on a dark network you're kidding yourself thinking it's "safe".
  24. That was built by steinchen. more pictures here - Audio DIY Inventory - discrete amps
