What did you do today?
Congrats Naaman, from one new dad to another it's a hell of a fun trip. And I'd pay more attention to stocking the bar than the humi, you'll need the booze to take the edge off.

What Al said, hopefully it's short term.

Watches
There are lots of elements of the Ball watches that I like but I'm hard pressed to find any one that I really love outside of the Night Train.

Video Transcoding Help - mkv to avi to DVD?
Ok, I need to resurrect this thread. I've tried several ways to convert the file to DVD and while I've been able to get something playable I'm continuously running into audio sync issues (even though the native file plays just fine and is synced). Is there anyone out there who could have a go at doing this who's more skilled in the ways of video manipulation? I can provide the mkv file on CD (about 1GB so uploading would be problematic for me) and would be eternally grateful.

Sorry Dinny, I can empathize all too well.

I'm hardly the expert here but it would seem pretty likely, based on your description, that the amp chassis is floating. If you have a multimeter try testing the continuity between the ZDT amp chassis and the power supply chassis. I would suggest doing this at a screw so that if the probe leaves a mark it won't be noticeable. If the amp chassis is indeed floating I'd talk to Craig about it. It makes me uncomfortable to think about and I don't want to speculate further.

The ZDT has an external power supply, correct? And fear not, I see nothing mikhail-esque about that wiring job. It's functional and pretty well laid out (at first glance).

At least it was on carpet and not a wood/tile floor.

I'm glad the wire helped but the result might imply that something in your system does not have its chassis tied to the earth ground connection (at the IEC socket) or that one of your outlets is not properly grounded. Otherwise all of these things should already be tied together. It might be worth investigating at some point.

The Headcase Stax thread
My advice is like n3rdling's, namely to whore the thing out on Audiogon or ebay.

I think you'd find that initially people would be far more generous than you might expect so "seed $$" really wouldn't be the issue. Finding a way to sustain such an undertaking would be the real impediment from what I can see without over capitalizing it and having the results of any testing instantly in doubt due to the type of large corporate sponsorships that ultimately would be necessary.- Neko Audio DAC
Gary, You could easily use a M-Audio Transit to convert your USB to an optical digital signal. Slightly kludgy but it'd work.- The ultimate DIY? A Stax SRM-T2!
That's exactly what happened on mine, the CT was marked wrong. Thankfully it was a low-voltage mistake but I'm not happy to hear it's happened more than once.- The ultimate DIY? A Stax SRM-T2!
Kevin, If those are SumR transformers double check the secondaries by hand. On the last trafo he made for me (for the BHse) he mis-marked the center tap on one of the secondaries, which thankfully didn't cook anything.- slow forum

If you haven't paid for hosting yet and aren't a professional web designer you might have a look at Build a Website - Squarespace, if I hadn't paid for a few years of hosting in advance (or gave a shit about Nugget Audio) I'd give them a shot. Their $8/mo seems really reasonable given the value-add that their free design software represents. You can get 10% off for life if you use the offer code "TWIT". - slow forum
