  1. I've spent almost the last hour with slim and the HF-2s and I am not left wanting for bass. I'd say it's got great impact and extensin with these cans. More later.
  2. Initially I'm guessing they'll be apple-direct only since rumors are flying about that there will only be about 1/4 of the # available as orinigally predicted (like 300k vs. 1mil).
  3. It's funny that daddy is going to get his sorry ass in the car and start driving?
  4. The problem, even with that use case as I see it, is that with just a few episodes (at 720P-type resolutions) a few books, a magazine or two, and you could be almost full. I will be interested to see file sizes for TV shows and movies encoded specifically for this device, I expect them to be in the 500MB/hr range, if not higher or they're not going to look very good. I've never downloaded movies or TV shows from the iTunes store so I can't be sure but what has been people's experience regarding those with regard to file size? [edit] According to the iTunes FAQ the average 2hr movie is "is about 1.5 GB." I don't like the idea of any one file eating more than 10% of my storage and having to sync or delete it to get the space back.
  5. Happy Birthday!
  6. I wouldn't get the 16GB version, that'll probably work out to a real world 13GB once the OS and basic apps are on there and that's not nearly enough for something that you're going to want to stick a ton of content on. The extra 100 for 32GB would definitely be worth it in my opinion.
  7. Indeed. I don't like buying cheap tools and when it comes to mills even the cheap stuff is $$$. And that's ignoring tooling...
  8. Started watching the MIT TechTV Machine Shop series. I may have a new problem...
  9. Deepak, I'm putting the tube tester in the car. At this point we should try to figure out if there's something wrong with the BH. I also have a spare quad of EL34s that I'll bring along although I do need to test those first. Source wise I'm sure we can come up with something, worst case is I've got HAJ's DAC I fixed in the back of my car or the analog outputs of Arcam. I'll also have the netbook and will bring the m-audio transit. I'll also have this...
  10. Arrival: 11am Agenda: Good food and beverages with good friends. I have procured a little refreshment to optimize our listening experience throughout the day.
  11. Yeah, the boards are huge. Thankfully I was able to modify my rack to fit either the amp or PS board which should make working on this monster a lot easier.
  12. There will be mad stat amps in attendance at this meet.
  13. I expect one to be sent back from the future to protect me from other amps that are trying to kill me.
  14. It really is a shame, I was so looking forward to more detailed impressions of this amp.
  15. This should be your last post for a while, if you want to continue to be able to post.
  16. It is, at least in my opinion, a horrible idea regardless of gain setting.
  17. They are quite nice for PTP work.
  18. That's damn near a darwin award right there. Great plan, wrap an already hot-running portable HD with insulation that blocks 90% of the airflow around the device and holds heat in.

Reeeeeeeeeeeee... A hell of a fun little viewing, even multiple times. I did a little research after I first saw it: took 4 months to build the machine and something like 60 takes before they got it right.
  20. FIFY Not sure how I feel about the listening that will occur this weekend. Let the anguish ensue I suppose.
  21. Good effort, though.
  22. If Haj forgets odds are good I'll have a few.
  23. Took a nap, also known as getting an MRI. Of course that doesn't mean jack, I don't get the results till next week at my follow up appointment. Still, I can think of worse ways to "work".
  24. Salty for the win! DEW EEET
